John Boadu, the Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has picked up the number one position on the ballot paper for the party’s National Chairmanship election scheduled for October 3, 2026.

Sammy Crabbe picked the second position, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko secured the third slot.

Boakye Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, will occupy the fourth position on the ballot paper.

Also, Salem Mustapha, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser, has withdrawn from the race for the party’s National Organiser position.

The NPP Youth Organiser withdrew from the contest for National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), citing “circumstances beyond my control.”

Salem Mustapha’s withdrawal was announced by Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Frederick Opare Ansah, ahead of the balloting for the National Organiser position on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

In a letter to the Chairman of the NPP National Officers Elections, Salam Mustapha formally communicated his decision to step down from the race.

“This decision has been a difficult one, particularly considering the encouragement, goodwill and overwhelming support I have received from Party members, delegates, colleagues and well-wishers across the country. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I am unable to continue with my candidature,” he wrote.

“My dedication to the Party remains firm, and I will continue to serve and contribute towards its unity, rebuilding and electoral success, and also to make Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia the next president of Ghana,” he stated.

“Political positions may come and go, but our commitment to the NPP and the future of our Party must remain greater than any individual ambition,” he said.

Salam Mustapha’s withdrawal leaves the remaining candidates, including Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, to contest the position as the party prepares for its national executive elections.

In related news, the campaign team of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, has thrown its support behind John Boadu in the party’s National Chairmanship race.

Wontumi’s campaign team on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, during a press conference, the  Administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, Denise Okyere Danso, made this known.

According to the Administrator of the Wontumi Campaign Team, they have ended their independent bid and would now deploy their machinery to support Mr Boadu’s candidature.

He disclosed that the decision followed consultations with grassroots members, party elders and other stakeholders.

He further disclosed that the endorsement was also informed by a visit to Chairman Wontumi at Nsawam on September 4, 2026.

“The Wontumi Campaign has taken the decision to close ranks and throw its full weight, organisational capacity and grassroots machinery behind Mr John Boadu for the position of National Chairman,” he said.

“This is bigger than two campaigns. It is about putting the party above individual interests and ensuring that the NPP emerges stronger, more united and better organised,” she stated.
