Veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo, one of the lead promoters of The Base party, has dismissed reports linking it to businessman and defeated NPP presidential aspirant Ken Agyapong.
Agya Koo explained that Ken Agyapong’s membership in ‘The Base’ party remains unconfirmed.
He highlighted that Ken Agyapong is not even aware of most of the things being done within the BASE party.
Speaking in a radio interview, Agya Koo stated, “The BASE party is not exclusive to Kennedy Agyapong, and his membership in the party remains unconfirmed at this time.”
“Kennedy Agyapong has not even come out to speak on his allegiance, yet there are speculations. He is not even aware of most of the things being done within the BASE party we have set up.”
Also, Agya Koo has called for experts, professionals, and entrepreneurs to join the party from the 16 regions of the country to steer its affairs.
He added, “We need experts, professionals, and entrepreneurs on board, and we hope to get a leader after mobilising across all 16 regions”.
“The Base party is made up of youth from different political parties and social groups who have come together to put our leaders in check.” He revealed
“We are coming as a third force to make sure leaders do their bidding for the country since they have refused to listen to the voices of the youth.”
“We have not even come out to say if he is part of the party or not; we are still organizing ourselves.”
However, some members of the Base Party, identifying themselves as the Base Queens, have disclosed that their aim is to bring the defeated New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant Ken Agyapong to lead them.
According to the Base Queens, Ken Agyapong is the best candidate for president.
They further called on Ghanaians to join their efforts as they work towards getting him into power.
Speaking in a viral video, the members of the Base Party stated, “We aim to bring Ken Agyapong from the NPP to come and lead us. Today, the Base Queens are going to bring Kennedy Agyapong for him to lead the Base. The youths rise up, whether you are NDC or NPP, come.
Today, you can see what the young man is doing in Burkina. If it were in Ghana, we would not vote for him, but today, have you seen the things he is doing?”.
Kennedy Agyapong said he will use five regions to develop Ghana. Everyone should rise up so we can vote out both the NDC and NPP,” she added.
However, the spokesperson, Ken Agyapong, Kwasi Kwarteng, has debunked reports claiming his boss has broken away from the party.
According to Kwasi Kwarteng, Ken Agyapong has not and will not break away from the NPP.
In a post shared on social media, Kwasi Kwarteng wrote, “ Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong has not and will not break away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in freedom)”.
Meanwhile, The Base Ghana First has been hit with a lawsuit over the alleged misuse of a name and branding.
Reports suggest that the “Base Ghana First LBG” filed a lawsuit at the High Court in Accra against “The Base Movement,” seeking an injunction over the “passing off” and misrepresentation.
Richard Yaw Boateng, the lawyer for the plaintiff, detailed that the dispute stems from internal disagreements that led to its formation in March 2026, leading to the split within The Base Movement.
According to court documents, the chairman of the defendant organisation individually suspended activities by dissolving leadership structures, creating a new executive council outside established regulations.
They also allege that the breakaway group has continued to use the name “The Base Ghana First” on official materials, souvenirs, and signage, which they said has created confusion.
“The Defendant is misleading the public, followers and potential investors… with the intent of riding at the back of the Plaintiff Company,” the filing stated.
The “Base Ghana First LBG” is seeking a perpetual injunction to stop the alleged use of its name and branding, as well as damages and legal costs.
The High Court, on April 19, 2026, in a writ ordered the defendant to enter an appearance within eight days.
