The protest dubbed “Aaagbe Wɔ Demo”, was organised by the Ga-Dangme Progressive Front to register the residents’ displeasure with the demolition exercise.

Titus Glover, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser, was at the event and appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to intervene.

He stated, “We, the youth of the Ga-Dangme people, are saying that enough is enough. So we want to register our plea with the President to intervene and get the traders back to the place”.

Also, the NPP Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Bernard Oko Boye, has demanded the immediate resignation of the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah.

Speaking to journalists, Bernard Oko Boye stated, “The MP for La, she must resign today. How can you be the chief spokesperson for your people? Be a deputy minister for local government. You sit in government with these people, and then they’ll come and break it, and you come and cry that you don’t know anything about it”.

“If she doesn’t know anything about it, what it means is that her own government don’t respect her. If your government does not respect you, you have no business being in government,” he added.

“The hotel went to court with the beach operators, and the judge was handling the case. But because this government is a reckless government, the people took the matter away from court; the hotel, that they are not interested anymore. And then they went to the National Security in the night, to show them where power lies,” he said.

“Nobody in this government has spoken to the people of La and the beach people. Nobody. And they have come to lie that they have formed a committee,” he said.

“So, we are here to let the government know that Accra is angry, and not only angry, but we are also hungry,” he added.

Meanwhile, Stan Dogbe, the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations and leader of the Anti-Flood Taskforce, has broken his silence on the demolition exercise conducted along a section of the Labadi beachfront on Friday, October 2, 2026.

According to Stan Dogbe, the demolition exercise along a section of the Labadi beachfront was not part of the government’s flood mitigation efforts.

Stan Dogbe revealed that the exercise was carried out under the supervision of National Security at the request of Labadi Beach Hotel.

He stressed that the exercise was different from the work of the Anti-Flood Taskforce in areas including the Kpeshie Lagoon, East Legon Boundary Road, Oyarifa and behind Mayfair Estates.

Mr Dogbe explained that Labadi Beach Hotel raised concerns about the structures affecting the safety and tranquillity of the facility, as well as the experience of visitors.

In a Facebook post, Stan Xoese Dogbe wrote, “Let’s not get it twisted.

Friday’s action along a section of the beachfront was not a Flood Mitigation Action by the government task force.

The action has nothing to do with the work of the Taskforce along the Kpeshie lagoon, East Legon Boundary Road, Oyarifa, behind Mayfair Estates, etc, which are efforts towards supporting the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to mitigate any future floods.

To understand Friday’s action, it was carried out under the supervision of the National Security at the request of the Labadi Beach Hotel. These are structures, some permanently built (Polo Beach Club and others) on the beach in front of the hotel, and which, according to the business, is adversely affecting the safety, tranquillity and reputation of the Hotel, diminishing the visitor experience and undermining the orderly management of one of Ghana’s most important tourism destinations.

While the hotel will be able to explain, in more detail, the necessity for its action to reclaim its beachfront, we must all be concerned about the serious sanitation issues that these unauthorised and unregulated commercial operations cause, in addition to the security risks.

I have seen drone shots and other short videos. Is the Labadi Beach Hotel not right in reclaiming its beachfront (I am not talking about the La Pleasure Beach, please)”.
