Mahama administration seeking to erase Akufo-Addo gov’t legacy – Fatimatu Abubakar

NewsMahama administration seeking to erase Akufo-Addo gov’t legacy – Fatimatu Abubakar

Fatimatu Abubakar, the former Information Minister, has accused the John Mahama-led government of seeking to erase the legacy of the previous Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking on Movement TV, Fatimatu Abubakar stated, “What is happening under this administration is that they want to totally wipe out the legacy of the previous administration. They want to wipe it off, what I am seeing now with the first budget and the second budget, which will take us into the middle of the four-year term of the president”.

She further alleged that funds meant to support the 24-hour economy were instead used to purchase a private jet for the president.

“They are not going to do anything; nothing will happen, those looking forward to the 24-hour economy that is the money they are using to buy a jet. They are not going to reduce electricity tariffs.

These prosecutions and all the noise are keeping the Ghanaian media busy; they are keeping as busy, who cares about prima facie, even without the prima facie, we already knew of the outcome.

Even now, those who have not been to the law school, or have not been to court before, we all know about the outcome, because the politics are becoming too many, you don’t have to read the petition to hear the other side”, Fatimatu Abubakar claimed.

Some netizens reacting to Fatimatu Abubakar’s statement stated, “I don’t know how NPP folks think and the rationale behind it. They get one lie out there, then they continuously repeat the same with the hope that we will fall for it. Sadly, some do. This lie has been exposed yet, they hold to this straw cos the life of their party depends on it”.

“Even Nkrumah Legacy sef u guys wanted to erase”, a netizen added.

One more X user added, “Has there been anywhere or a point in her life that she speaks the truth? If a woman can be lying like this just because of politics, then I wonder what kind of person she is”.

Meanwhile, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, in a recent interview, has been criticising the Akufo-Addo administration.

According to Kufuor, Akufo-Addo rode on his achievements to win power, but caused the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 elections with his policies.

He revealed that the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration. Implemented policies like the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), National Cathedral project and Power Distribution Services deal, which contributed significantly to the New Patriotic Party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.

Speaking in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso, shared on X on December 6, 2025, former President Kufuor explained, “Before the 2016 election in which Akufo-Addo was elected, the campaign was built on my achievements”.

“Those achievements played a key role in his victory. The government started on a good note, but things changed after he assumed power.”

During the 2016 election, they rode on my achievements to win power, but after they came into government, things changed… They started very well, but when COVID-19 came, things began to shift. I will commend him for how he handled the COVID-19 pandemic, but afterwards, I didn’t understand many of the things they were doing.

Things like the bond market and the National Cathedral… They didn’t consult me. All I knew was that they were building it. I initially thought it was a private initiative, only to later realise they were using government resources. They even demolished the judges’ building for it, and yet they still couldn’t complete it. Also, with the PDS”, he said.
