Nyamadi Benedicta, the matron and a cook at Awaso STEM Senior High School have been arrested by the Sehwi Bekwai Police Command.

The two have been arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies intended for students to a private residence in Atronsu, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality.

Reports revealed that 21 bags of Rice, six gallons of cooking oil, 40 tins of tomatoes, boxes of milk, sugar, maize, millet, and gari, all meant for the school, were diverted to a private residence at Atronsu in the Bibiani Anhwiaso in the Western North Region.

Sebastian Obeng, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai cornfrimed the news, disclosing that his office acted on intelligence.

He revealed that the food items supposedly meant for the Awaso STEM SH were found in a private home, with the information passed on to the police, which led to the arrests of some suspects.

Bright Asamoah Brefo, the Member of Parliament for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, has also disclosed that legal action will be pursued against those found responsible, emphasising efforts to prevent similar incidents in schools across the country.

In related news, the Wa Technical Institute in the Upper West Region, Bursar, has been arrested for diverting foodstuffs meant for students to her home.

According to reports, the Bursar was arrested after foodstuffs meant for students were spotted packed into a pick-up truck while en route to her residence.

Reports suggest authorities have already begun an investigation into the matter.

Also, Fedelia Kudaariwo, a bursar of the Northern School of Business Senior High School (NOBISCO), has been arrested.

The NOBISCO bursar was arrested after she was caught diverting food supplies meant for the school.

Reports revealed Fedelia Kudaariwo attempted to make away with nine bags of maize in the school’s minibus.

A team of volunteers who apprehended the drivers on Thursday, October 30, revealed some students had blown an alarm on the syndicate carrying food out of the stores at night, which prompted their attention to keep monitoring the activities.

The driver, who was busted, named the bursar of the school as the one who had asked him to haul the items to her house.

They later went to the school bursar’s house, where some food items were allegedly found, including bags of rice, cooking oil, and tins of mackerel.

However, reports suggest the bursar escaped before the team got to her house, but later turned herself in to the police.

Alhassan Dokurugu, the Headmaster of NOBISCO, has expressed his disappointment, adding that the school management was working hard to project the school’s image others were giving the school such a bad image

He added that the school management will cooperate with the necessary investigation.
