Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Yendi, has accused the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, of exploiting drug-trafficking controversy.
The Yendi MP alleged that Nana B is exploiting the drug-trafficking controversy as a springboard to boost his campaign ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference.
According to the Yendi MP, Nana Boakye’s allegations of clandestine laboratories in Ghana are a calculated attempt to generate public attention as he campaigns for the position of First Vice Chairman of the NPP.
The Yendi MP argued that if Nana Boakye had credible information about such facilities, he should make the information available to the appropriate security and investigative agencies.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, September 23, Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan stated, “I see Nana B trying to use this issue as a springboard. In fact, my candid advice is that he should go and do his campaign and not try to use this cheap means”.
“We will not arrest him tomorrow, and then they will say, ‘Oh, Nana B has been arrested on this cocaine,’ and then his popularity soars, and then he goes to win. He should go and campaign. In fact, if anything at all, if they will even invite him, they should invite him after the elections when obviously he would have lost his position,” he said.
The Yendi MP’s comments come on the heels of allegations made by Nana Boakye at an NPP press conference on Tuesday, September 22, where he alleged that drug traffickers had established laboratories in Ghana to process narcotics for export.
According to Nana B, the NPP’s intelligence gathered suggests drug traffickers have established clandestine laboratories in Ghana which are used to process narcotics for export.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the opposition NPP on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Henry Nana Boakye stated, “These drug lords, they have established basic laboratories here for processing of illicit drugs and narcotics under the watch of President Mahama”.
“And it appears that he doesn’t care.”
“That is the reason why volumes of drugs traced to Ghana keep surfacing in the folds of ships and the luggage of passengers in Sydney, Dunkirk and Johannesburg,” he said.
He further alleged that some government officials were facilitating the movement of narcotics out of the country.
Nana B also cited the cocaine case involving Nayele Ametefe during the previous Mahama administration.
“Ghanaians have not forgotten the Naa Ayele Ametefe scandal under the first Mahama administration where this drug trafficker was afforded the courtesy of the VVIP wing at the Kotoka International Airport before her arrest at Heathrow with cocaine in her bags,” he said.
“Today, under the second Mahama term, the same pattern has resurfaced. The same process has remained, and it has grown to be much worse,” he said.
“Some within our borders, others involving Ghanaians and Ghana-linked consignments intercepted abroad,” he said.
“This is not an isolated embarrassment; it is a pattern. And patterns demand accountability.”
