Background
The dispute stems from claims by Singaporean businessman Toh You Kang, who alleges that he paid Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore US$800,000 in exchange for assistance in securing contracts with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to supply electric cables.
In a case brought before the High Court in 2025, Kang accused the Greater Accra NDC Regional Chairman of making representations that he could facilitate the contracts. He further alleged that his rights were violated during the dispute, citing his reported detention and the removal of his personal belongings.
Ashie-Moore has rejected the accusations. Through his lawyer, Gideon Tettey Tetteh, he denied receiving the US$800,000 and maintained that the claims against him were unfounded. His legal representatives, in turn, accused Kang of defrauding Ashie-Moore and his business associates.
