The Ministry for Communication and Digital Technology has issued a statement debunking claims suggesting the Minister of Communication, Sam George, has blown public funds.
According to the Communications Ministry, the document in circulation is an extract from a broader official submission seeking Commitment Authorisation from the Ministry of Finance.
They detailed that the Commitment Authorisation request is yet to receive approval from the Ministry of Finance, adding that “no funds have been released, disbursed or expended in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document”.
In a press statement issued to all media houses, the Ministry of Communication stated, “The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MOCDTI) has taken notice of a document circulating on social media, accompanied by claims that the Minister, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), has “blown” public funds.
The document in circulation is an extract from a broader official submission seeking Commitment Authorisation from the Ministry of Finance, in line with established public financial management and procurement procedures, and based on budgetary allocations duly approved by Parliament for the 2026 fiscal year.
The request covers a range of planned projects, operational activities and programme interventions to be undertaken by the Ministry within the year under review.
It is important to emphasise that the said Commitment Authorisation request is yet to receive approval from the Ministry of Finance. Consequently, no funds have been released, disbursed or expended in relation to the items referenced in the circulating document.
The Ministry therefore describes the claims suggesting that public funds have already been squandered as inaccurate, misleading and devoid of context and must be treated with the contempt it deserves.
The Ministry remains committed to transparency, accountability and strict adherence to all public financial management regulations in the execution of its mandate”.
The statement follows a document circulating on social media, which alleged that Sam George has blown GHC 2 Million on SIM Re-Registration Consultancy and another GHC 5.2 Million on Transaction Advisor through sole sourcing.
Ghana Today, in a post on X, wrote, “Sam George blows GHC 2 Million on consultancy services for Sim Re-Registration, GHC 5.2 Million on Transaction Advisor through sole sourcing”.
In another allegation, Ghana Today alleged, saying, “Sam George blows another GHC10 Million on cars for supervisors of One Million Coders Programme, GHC 50 Million on supervision, GHC1.3 Million on office equipment, and GHC1 Million on Air Tickets for trainers”.
Meanwhile, Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication and Digital Technology, has announced that the registration portal for the One Million Coders Programme is now live.
The Communication urged Ghanaians to take advantage of this opportunity to get “skilled, upskilled, or reskilled”.
In a post shared on X, Sam George wrote, “The registration portal for the One Million Coders Programme is now live.
Take advantage of this opportunity to get skilled, upskilled, or reskilled.
For God and Country.”
