News“No serious country will appoint men with a history of sexual harassment” – Ama K Abebrese blasts NDC gov’t

Ghanaian actress Ama K. Abebrese has fired shots at the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

The renowned actress has said no serious country will appoint men with a documented history of sexual harassment.

Ama K Abebrese condemned the appointment of men who sexually assault women to key leadership positions by the John Mahama government.

According to her, the Mahama government, in placing those men with a documented history of sexual harassment and assault, sends a bad signal that misconduct against women can even get people rewarded in government.

In a post shared on social media, Ama K Abebrese wrote, “There is no serious country that will appoint men who have a documented history and allegations of sexual assault/sexual harassment against females to high governmental positions. It sends the message that men can abuse females and be rewarded. Do Better Ghana,” she wrote.

Her post comes following the recent appointment of Kwasi Kyei Darkwah as Ghana’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region and also Professor Ransford Gyampo as Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority.

Kwasi Kyei Darkwah and Professor Ransford Gyampo, in the past, have faced sexual assault/sexual harassment charges against them.

In the last 24 hours, Staunch feminist and NDC member Amelia Amedela Amemate, popularly known as Dela Goldheart, has said she was disappointed in her own party, the NDC, for appointing Professor Ransford Gyampo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority despite sexual harassment levelled against him.

According to NDC’s Amelia, Professor Ransford Gyampo nearly ruined her education because he couldn’t keep his zipper closed.

Dela Goldheart highlighted that she was disappointed because Prof Gyampo’s appointment sent a wrong message to young women all over Ghana.

It will be recalled that some years ago, Amelia Amedela Amemate added her voice to that of several other women calling for the head of Professor Ransford Gyampo following the BBC Africa Eye exposé ‘Sex for grades’.

Dela Goldheart narrated her ordeal of how Prof Gyampo allegedly harassed her while she was a student at the University of Ghana.

According to her, she was shocked at Prof Gyampo’s consistent demand for sex, knowing how reserved and powerful he was, adding that many of her colleagues saw him to be “young, smart and powerful”.

In a fresh Facebook post that has surfaced following Professor Ransford Gyampo, in a viral video, in a heated altercation with Dr George Domfeh, two lecturers at the University of Ghana.

In a viral video circulating on Facebook, Dr Domfeh was heard making further allegations against Prof Gyampo, including claims about inappropriate conduct with students.

“You are a fool. You are a professor who sleeps with children,” Domfeh alleged.
