The New Patriotic Party (NPP) first Vice Chairman for Okaikwei Central, Alhaji Harruna Rafik, was on Sunday, May 10, 2026, allegedly assaulted by masked men following a dispute involving a woman said to be someone’s girlfriend.
Abubakar Osman, the Deputy Nasara Coordinator for Okaikwei Central of the NPP, has shared more details surrounding the attack.
According to Abubakar Osman, party members had just ended a meeting while heading in different directions, masked men, armed with weapons, approached Alhaji Harruna Rafik.
He disclosed that Alhaji Harruna Rafik was confronted and accused of ignoring their warnings to stay away from the woman.
Abubakar Osman stated, “We were on our way when they approached him wearing masks and carrying weapons. I told them that we are all men and that whatever issue they had with him should be settled amicably, but they refused,”
“They said they had consistently warned him to stop following the said lady, but he refused to listen. They then slapped him and started beating him,” he added.
Abubakar Osman further disclosed that Rafik has allegedly denied knowing his attackers.
“After the incident, I asked him whether he knew them, but he said he did not know them”, he added.
Reports suggest the incident occurred shortly after a meeting chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary at Patrick Yaw Boamah’s residence.
The NPP’s Vice Chair is currently receiving treatment at Lapaz Community Hospital after sustaining injuries during the assault.
Alhaji Harruna Rafik has since reported the matter to the police for investigation.
