Paul Adom-Otchere, the host of Good Evening Ghana, has made a shocking revelation regarding the embattled Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, the Obuasi SHTS headmaster has threatened the national executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over his political ambitions.

He alleged that Zakaria Abdulai has asked the NDC leadership to appoint him as the first vice-chairman of the Juaben Constituency, adding that the alleged threat was the reason behind the reluctance to take a firm position on Abdulai’s political ambitions.

Paul Adom-Otchere further alleged that the NDC leadership might be under pressure from Abdulai because of information he could disclose about the NDC’s political activities in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 general election.

He claimed that the headmaster had allegedly warned the party that he would speak about its activities in the region if the leadership took action against him based on the allegations.

Speaking on Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere stated, “He’s told the NDC that, ‘Now that you don’t want me to contest, I am telling you that if I don’t contest, you have to appoint me as a first vice chairman of the constituency’. That’s a threat that he has issued, and I hear the national [executives] say that they have heard”.

“He’s telling them that, look, ‘NDC, if you don’t know and you follow NPP social media and you punish me, whatever we did in Ashanti region for John Mahama to win, I will say it’. This is what we are hearing. This is what we are hearing,” he stated.

“Is it true? I don’t know. Could it be true? Maybe. Is it possible? Yes, it is possible. Otherwise, how do you explain it?” he questioned.

He further argued that the party’s handling of the matter was surprising, saying, “Fifi Kwetey is forthright and cannot be bought. He’s not one of those politicians who can be bought. I can say that for him. He’s not my friend, but Fifi Kwetey is one of those who cannot be bought. Everybody knows that. He’s strong and forthright.

“For Fifi Kwetey to kowtow to this man, it means the guy is very powerful, and he’s holding something. The other day I heard Fifi Kwetey ranting and raving on some platform that Ghana first before NDC for him. That he is Ghana first. Laudable. But what about this one? Fifi Kwetey, the forthright NDC general secretary, had to kowtow to this man who is a secretary in one constituency out of 276,” he alleged.

Meanwhile, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has emphatically stated the party’s position regarding the headmaster of Obuasi Secondary Technical School (SHTS), who happens to be a member of the party.

According to the NDC, it does not endorse or cover up acts of alleged sexual misconduct.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey maintained that law enforcement agencies must be permitted to conduct an independent investigation without any political interference.

He explained that although the headmaster was initially requested to step aside from an internal party contest a decision that was followed by his voluntary withdrawal the party remains resolute that it will not shield anyone from the law.

The NDC assured Ghanaians that the leadership will allow state security agencies to thoroughly probe the matter to establish the facts.

Speaking during a press briefing, the General Secretary of the opposition party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, clarified,  “We have assured that this party will not in any way interfere. We want the truth to be brought out, and on the back of the truth, the country will have clear assurance that as a party and as a government, we do not cover anybody. If he is found guilty, he will pay the highest price. If he is not guilty, we will be happy for him”.

He further clarified the NDC back and forth with their decision, explaining the sequence of events.

The General Secretary noted that at the time the initial directive was issued on Monday, party executives had not yet received the full investigative disclosures by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni.

Fifi Fiavi Kwetey added that subsequent clarifications regarding the accused person’s presumption of innocence were made in light of procedural fairness.

He, however, maintained that the NDC is committed to letting due process take its full course without compromise.
