One person has reportedly died following a bee attack on supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kpandai District on Sunday, December 14.
The tragic incident occurred when the NDC wrapped up its campaign activities in the area.
The NDC Kpandai Constituency Secretary, Mr Robert, stated that the situation unfolded unexpectedly, which led to panic among the gathering.
The deceased, according to reports, is a traditional leader from one of the communities in the district.
He is said to have been travelling on a motorbike when he was suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees.
Some residents have attributed the incident to spiritual causes.
An eyewitness recounted, “The bees suddenly descended on him. He tried to escape but couldn’t. He got off the motorbike and attempted to run, but fell, and they kept attacking him until he gave up the ghost. It was terrifying to witness.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) deliberately orchestrated a bee attack on NDC executives in Kpandai.
According to Mustapha Gbande, NPP is campaigning on the ground at Kpandai with mallams whom he accused of orchestrating the bees’ attack.
He revealed the attack occurred while NDC executives were holding a meeting, which led to the death of one person.
Speaking in an interview on Onua FM’s current affairs programme, Yɛn Nsempa, Mr. Gbande stated, “The NPP is campaigning on the ground at Kpandai with mallams. They brought three mallams from Niger and orchestrated for bees to attack us while we were holding a meeting, of which we lost one person”.
“Where we come from, and in our towns, everyone knows bees are used for spiritual purposes. It is a totem. From Dangbe, Salaga, Bimbila, Yendi, Yelensi, Saboba, Chamba, Basare to Gonja, everyone knows what bees mean to us,” he claimed.
He added, “It’s nothing new to summon bees to attack someone. Where we come from, if you have an affair with someone’s wife, bees can be summoned to attack the cheating parties. It’s a weapon that exists there.
“This attack is on the hands of Matthew Nyindam and the NPP. Nothing is working for the NPP, so they have now resorted to using mallams.”
However, New Patriotic Party’s Kpandai Chairman, Ebenezer Gyato, in a swift response, on the show simply stated, “Do mallams not vote too? What’s wrong if they are present?”
