Dr Tony Aidoo, a former Ghana Ambassador to the Netherlands, has told Ken Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential flagbearer hopeful, to opt out of the race.

According to Dr Tony Aidoo, Ken Agyapong does not fit the office of the President, arguing that Ken does not meet the standard required for the presidency.

Dr Tony Aidoo made this known when he was asked to assess the five NPP aspirants ahead of Saturday’s January 31 primaries.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, January 30,  Dr Tony Aidoo stated, “So far among the candidates, personally, I think Kennedy Agyapong should opt out,” he stated.

“We don’t want a braggart who lies about people to be our president,” he said on the programme. He is not presidential material”, he added.

However, Charles Bissue, the National Administrator of the Ken Agyapong campaign, has quizzed his critics on what they refer to as “presidential material”.

Mr Bissue quizzed whether they are referring to GTP or Printex when they talk of presidential material.

According to Mr Bissue, Ken Agyapong’s political appeal is rooted in his ability to connect with ordinary party supporters.

He described him as a natural crowd puller, arguing that Ken’s popularity and grassroots strength, rather than elite branding, should define a presidential contender.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Charles Bissue dismissed claims the former Assin Central MP is not “presidential material he asked, “I beg them, is it GTP or Printex when they talk of presidential material? What exactly do they mean by material?”

“Kennedy Agyapong is like a magnet, and over the years, he has proven it,” he said.

He further added, “If we want, we can assemble all the aspirants. Each of them will be assigned a day to address delegates, and we will see the number of crowds each will pull”.

“Kennedy Agyapong’s numbers will be phenomenal,” Bissue added.

“When people say presidential material, they should explain whether they are talking about branding or leadership. For us, Kennedy has shown over the years that people believe in him,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ken Agyapong has appealed to party delegates to allow him to serve them as their presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.

According to Ken Agyapong, he stands for industrialisation, employment and jobs.

He argued that Ghanaian youths need employment, which will be his main goal when given the opportunity.

Speaking in a televised address to national delegates on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Ken Agyapong stated, “I do not believe in revenge politics, and I will not tolerate any attempt to shrink the party by threatening its grassroots. Be assured of this”.

“The NPP was built on courage and internal democracy. So, I say to you, stand firm,” he stated.

“I stand for industrialisation, and that’s all my message. I am also for employment and jobs. What we need in this country is employment for the youth. So please give me the opportunity to serve you, and I will not disappoint you,” he said.
