Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, has called for the decentralisation of the office of the Special Prosecutor.
According to Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the OSP shouldn’t be cocooned in Accra when there are issues far away from Accra.
He stressed that the OSP Operating solely from Accra increases operational costs.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Monday, December 22, Dafeamekpor stated, “I believe that where we are, they should have regional offices by now. It shouldn’t be cocooned in Accra and operating only from the capital. When you have issues far away from Accra, how do you handle them effectively? Operating solely from Accra increases operational costs. We believe in the wisdom of the President. Everybody deserves a second chance”.
“I believe that where we are, they should have regional offices by now. It shouldn’t be cocooned in Accra and operating only from the capital. When you have issues far away from Accra, how do you handle them effectively? Operating solely from Accra increases operational costs.”
The majority chief whip added, “If you open regional offices, you can have regional officers reporting to the centre. This will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and make the institution more accessible to Ghanaians across the country. It is my position that the OSP should be more geographically spread out to better serve the public.”
Meanwhile, on the OSP, Samson Lardy Anyenini, a renowned broadcaster and lawyer, has shared details of the alleged assassination attempt on the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
According to Samson Lardy Anyenini, top military generals in Ghana know about the OSP assassination attempt.
He further revealed that he was a witness to the Director of Research, Communications and Strategy at the OSP, Sammy Darko, being arrested at Tesano by dozens of police men.
The renowned broadcaster highlighted that the OSP assassination attempt happened at the time they were investigating recruitment scams.
Speaking on NewsFile, Samson Lardy Anyenini narrated, “In October 2022, when Sammy Darko was arrested, I was a witness at Tesano. Police were called in two different vehicles to come after him because he was refusing arrest, sitting in an OSP vehicle. He was in the middle somewhere in the road, and rolled up his windows so that they could not arrest him.
“Eventually, they arrested him. He was beaten up. He was detained. I am a witness. In fact, a report was made”.
He added, “The OSP assassination attempt, look at how quickly we are to dismiss it. But top military generals in this country know about it. Top security people knew about it at the time, at the time when his security details were being withdrawn from him.
“People have seen evidence of his vehicle, the SP vehicle, being shot at, and he was taken for dead.
“When he was not in this country, people were complaining that he was operating from abroad. Do you know how he got there? There are facts, and there are many people who know about it. Let’s not be too quick to dismiss. Let’s look for the evidence, and once we have the evidence, let’s deal with the evidence. If you are too quick to believe everybody else, except people who are affected, that is a big problem,” he said.
Samson Lardy Anyenini reiterated, “I confirm to you that, yes, Sammy Darko was arrested by dozens of police officers. I have a video of it – it’s embargoed, I cannot show it. Reports of the OSP assassination, many people in this country who are at the top of the security organisations, they know that was the period when they were investigating recruitment scams, recruitment scams at the police and other places. You think it was for nothing that they were not getting support from the police and other places; there was a reason.”
