The National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, has confirmed that the party has received petitions from some members and Members of Parliament calling for the dismissal of Hon. Ken Agyapong from the party.
According to Nana Boakye, the petitions have been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for review, and the party expects to receive a report on the matter within the next two weeks.
He disclosed that the decision was taken by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council at a meeting held yesterday, Thursday, June 25.
He revealed that the NPP’s highest decision-making organs had unanimously agreed to refer all petitions against Ken Agyapong to the disciplinary committee for consideration.
Nana Boakye disclosed that the disciplinary body has been given two weeks to investigate the petitions and submit its recommendations.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, Henry Nana Boakye stated, “The decision was that all of these petitions must be referred to the National Disciplinary Committee”.
“Let’s manage for the next two weeks, and when we receive the report, and a decision is made, it will be communicated appropriately,” Mr Boakye added.
Also, some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus have petitioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority leadership and presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, demanding action over Ken Agyapong’s anti-party conduct.
The NPP MPs accused Ken Agyapong of spreading misinformation and publicly sabotaging the party, adding that his outbursts were “inconsistent with the principles of party discipline”.
According to the NPP MPs, Ken Agyapong’s conduct is a Pandora’s box for Indiscipline, which risks emboldening others to act against the party.
Parts of the petition read, “Erosion of Leadership Authority & Confidence: Failure to act weakens the authority of the Minority Leadership and brings its decisions into public disrepute, a dangerous precedent for any organised political institution. We must remember that Parliament, as an institution, is clothed with the responsibility to protect the interests of the citizenry. Any attempt to bring the reputation of the parliamentary party, especially from a former Member of Parliament, must be treated with the contempt it deserves.
A Pandora’s Box for Indiscipline: Left unaddressed, Hon. Agyapong’s conduct risks emboldening others to act against sanctioned parliamentary party or party decisions, normalising indiscipline at the very moment unity is most needed.
Damage to the Party’s 2028 Ambitions: Public infighting of this nature clouds the object of the mission. As it is now, the objective of the visit to Afari hospital has been undermined, and the public attention has rather swayed from seeking redress by the government to what appears as an internal wrangling within the NPP over an issue that is totally needless. This situation erodes voter confidence and hence threatens the party’s quest to win election 2028”.
The NPP MPs who petitioned Dr Bawumia and the minority leadership include, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, Ranking Member on the Health Committee, alongside MPs Dr Patrick Boachie Yiadom, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, and Frank Yeboah.
The brouhaha stems from Ken Agyapong, who has vowed to take action against members of his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), starting in June or July 2027.
According to Ken Agyapong, the NPP thinks he is stupid to come and follow them again, warning that from July 2027, they will see action from him.
Speaking on Net 2 TV, the former NPP flagbearer aspirant, Ken Agyapong, stated, “It will not be long when you travel the way they respect you, then when you get here. Somebody like KOKA is saying my head has been operated on. He does not know what will happen to him. NPP people, are you ready? I am saying June, July 2027, me and you action in Ghana, you will be surprised, you think I am stupid.
You think I am stupid to come and follow you guys again. If you were to say ten sins of Ken Agyapong, you wait and see what will happen. I am not afraid of you; you wait and see. I have given you the time, June 2027, you will see action in this country”.
