A Police Inspector identified as Bright Appiah Danquah has been arrested in Kumasi in connection with an alleged robbery attack on a mobile money (MoMo) vendor in Kumasi.

Reports suggest the Police Inspector was arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of armed robbery attacks targeting mobile money vendors across Kumasi.

The Police Inspector’s cup became full when he allegedly left his mobile phone at one of the robbery scenes, a development that later became a key lead in ongoing police investigations.

According to reports, he later visited the police station to officially report the device as stolen, only for investigators to allegedly connect the phone and other evidence to several similar robbery incidents in Kumasi.

The Ghana Police, in a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command on Monday, May 11, said the suspect was arrested by the Regional Anti-Robbery Unit following intelligence-led operations.

They also disclosed that a search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a Bruni Model 92 gas pistol, ammunition, and cash amounting to GHS 9,835.

The police statement added that the officer has since been interdicted as investigations continue into the case.

According to the police, the suspect was arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Monday, May 11, 2026, and has been remanded into police custody.

The Police Inspector is expected to reappear in court on May 29, 2026.

In related news, Police Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie has been interdicted by the Ashanti North Regional Police Command for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter.

According to the Police command, the Police inspector stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region is being investigated by DOVVSU.

The police statement disclosed that the complaint was lodged on November 4, 2025, by Charlotte Samaa on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter.

In a statement issued on Saturday, May 9, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command read, “The Ashanti North Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that an alleged defilement/incest case involving Inspector Desmond Owusu Afriyie, currently stationed at Mamponteng District in the Ashanti Region, is under active investigation by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Agona District.

The complaint was lodged on 4th November, 2025, by one Charlotte Samaa of Koforidua/ER on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, alleging that the victim had been sexually abused by her biological father.

Following the report, the victim was referred for medical examination at a Government health facility to aid investigations.

On 20/02/2026, the Inspector reported himself at the Agona DOVVSU, where he was arrested and a statement on cautioned obtained from him. Suspect denied the allegations and was later released on enquiry bail to be reporting periodically.

The Inspector is currently being interdicted to pave the way for further investigation.
