The Ghana Police Service has announced they have identified and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng over the death of 23-year-old Central University Law student Ivan Baidoo on the Tema Motorway.
General Corporal Robert Koranteng’s interdiction follows preliminary investigations launched after a video relating to the incident went viral on social media on August 27, 2026.
The CID Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau has been tasked with examining the officer’s conduct.
In a statement on Saturday, September 12, the Ghana Police Service stated, “POLICE INTERDICT OFFICER OVER DEATH OF 23-YEAR-OLD IVAN BAIDOO.
The Ghana Police Service has identified, arrested and interdicted General Corporal Robert Koranteng in connection with the death of 23-year-old Ivan Baidoo, following initial investigations into a viral video concerning the incident, which occurred on the Tema Motorway on 27th August 2026.
The Homicide Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is intensifying efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, while the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has been tasked with investigating the conduct of the officer, who is currently in custody.
The Ghana Police Service assures the public that the matter is being thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigations”.
In related news, the family of Ivan Baidoo, a Level 200 law student at Central University, who died following an alleged hit-and-run accident on the Tema Motorway, is appealing to the public for information.
Reports suggest Ivan was knocked down by a vehicle on August 27, 2026, with the driver allegedly leaving the scene after the incident.
Following his death, his family has launched a public appeal for information that could help identify the driver involved and bring the person responsible to justice.
The family has placed a GH¢50,000 reward for credible information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of the alleged culprit or culprits.
Also, the family is urging anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about the circumstances surrounding the incident to come forward.
According to the notice, information can be provided through +233 20 250 4411, with the family assuring informants that all information will be treated with strict confidentiality.
The late Ivan was pursuing his law degree at Central University.
