Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice-President, has finally broken her silence concerning the sexual assault case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
According to Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the law should take its course in the sexual assault case involving the headmaster, describing the matter as a serious national concern.
The Vice President argued that the seriousness of the allegations made it important for the legal process to be allowed to proceed without interference.
Commenting on the controversy, Professor Opoku-Agyemang, in a video shared on X, stated, “What I want to say at this point is that this is a very, very serious matter. It is a matter of concern to all of us, and it is a matter of national concern”.
“What I want to see is that we all allow the law to take its course because this is a very serious matter, especially as it affects the lives of people, not only in the present but also going into the future. So let’s allow the law to take its course,” the Vice-President added.
“We have all followed what is going on in our country regarding the case of sexual assault,” she said.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang disclosed that he will continue to monitor developments.
She added, “I want all of you to be aware that I followed this even when we were away, and I have received some reactions”.
“I’ve seen what the party did regarding this gentleman who wanted to run on our ticket. I’ve seen the letter that was written by our Secretary General,” she said.
Earlier, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, has slammed Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang for failing to comment on allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
According to Miracles Aboagye, the Vice-President’s silence is very loud and disappointing.
Miracles Aboagye argued that Ghana’s first female Vice-President was expected to be more vocal on matters involving the protection of children, particularly girls, stressing that her position in government placed her in a unique position to advocate for female students.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Wednesday, October 21, Prof Opoku-Agyemang stated, “People expect to hear the Vice-President’s voice, whether you like it or not. They expect that the female Vice-President should stand up for girls, should stand up for the female child. And the silence is very loud”.
Also, Mavis Hawa Koomson, the National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has fired shots at the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, over her continued silence on issues affecting women in Ghana.
According to Hawa Koomson, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, despite being the first female Vice President of Ghana, has failed to publicly address critical issues concerning women.
Hawa Koomson argued that Professor Opoku-Agyemang has been disappointing and embarrassing to Ghanaian women.
The NPP National Women’s Organiser further called on the Vice President to break her silence and speak out on matters affecting women.
Hawa Koomson further questioned how the Vice President would feel if her own granddaughter were subjected to similar alleged sexual abuse.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Hawa Koomson stated, “I am calling on the Vice President, who is a woman and a grandmother, to ask herself whether she would be happy if someone did this to her granddaughter. His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama should also ask himself whether he would be happy if someone did this to his daughter”.
“So, I am begging Her Excellency the Vice President to speak about these issues because she is disgracing women. Whenever issues concerning women arise in this country, she remains silent. For once, she should speak so that we can applaud her,” she added.
Hawa Koomson’s remarks come on the heels of the growing public concern over allegations of sexual abuse involving female students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.
