Sammi Awuku, the Akuapem North Member of Parliament (MP), has told Rev Owusu Bempah, the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, that he has no power to determine Ghana’s next president.
The Akuapem North MP challenged controversial televangelist Rev Owusu Bempah’s claim that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot become president.
He argued that no human being can determine who will lead Ghana, pointing to Ghana’s political history of Nana Akufo-Addo, John Agyekum Kufuor, the late Prof John Evans Atta Mills and John Mahama as examples.
Sammi Awuku said Akufo-Addo was mocked because he had no “John” in his name, while his height was also ridiculed as an impediment to his presidential ambition.
The MP also cited how political opponents claimed Mahama lacked what it took to lead Ghana again, yet he returned to power.
Sammi Awuku stated, “Who are we to say that this person cannot become president? Is it in our hands?”
The NPP also highlighted that the Bible contains several examples of people being elevated to leadership through God’s will and prayers, boldly predicting that Bawumia will win the 2028 election and become president.
It will be recalled that Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah openly declared his intention to prevent Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from gaining political power.
He warned that the NPP has no chance of winning the 2028 general election.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, August 9, 2026, Rev Owusu Bempah pledged to take active steps to prevent the NPP from returning to power, saying, “So far as I’m alive, I won’t sit down for Bawumia to win power and come and disturb Christianity. I will curse anyone who votes for the NPP.”
He also pointed to a personal disagreement with the party as one of the reasons behind his position.
Rev Owusu Bempah insisted that, due to what the NPP did to him, he would devote himself to ensuring the party’s collapse.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Muslim Forum for Peace and Unity has boldly told Rev Owusu Bempah he cannot stop what God has ordained for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
The Muslim Forum, using the Holy Qur’an and the Holy Bible, described Rev Owusu Bempah’s threat against Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as hollow, empty and blasphemous.
According to the Muslim Forum, the Holy Qur’an and the Holy Bible scriptures agree that Rev Owusu Bempah has no power to decide who becomes President of Ghana.
On Tuesday, September 9, in a press statement issued and signed by Executive Secretary Dr Zakari Abdul Rahman, the group stated, “Both the Qur’an and the Bible prove that Rev Owusu Bempah’s threat is hollow”.
From the Qur’an, the group quoted Chapter 3, Verse 26: “Say, O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will, and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honour whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent”.
In the Bible, the group quoted Psalm 75:6-7 and Daniel 2:21: “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another”.
“He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others”. – Daniel 2:21
They further argued, “If God has destined that Dr Bawumia will be President, Rev Owusu Bempah cannot stop it. If God has destined that he will not be President, Rev Owusu Bempah cannot make it happen either. His threat is therefore hollow”.
According to the group, attempts by Rev Owusu Bempah to position himself as the gatekeeper of Ghana’s presidency are blasphemous.
They further argued that Rev Owusu Bempah’s attacks are about personal hatred for Bawumia because he is a Muslim who dares to aspire to lead Ghana.
“This proves that the dangerous anti-Muslim rhetoric he is pursuing is not supported by the majority of respected and enlightened pastors. It is backed only by a few divisive extremists who disguise their personal bitterness as fighting for the Church”, the Forum added.
“We urge all well-meaning Ghanaians – Christians and Muslims – to reject this attempt to introduce religious bigotry into our politics. Ghana’s peace is built on mutual respect, and no one man’s hate should be allowed to destroy it”, the statement concluded.
