The case involving senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe, who was arrested on an abetment of crime charge in connection with the alleged publication and circulation of false news on social media in connection with the Ghana Jollof TikTok account, has been adjourned again.
Salomey Baffoe’s case has now been adjourned to October 5, 2026, after the court did not sit due to the Association of Judges and Magistrates Conference, which has been scheduled for September 30, 2026 to October 4, 2026.
Speaking to the media after the adjournment on September 30, 2026, a member of Salomey Baffoe’s legal team, Enoch Afoakwa, stated, “I’m extremely disappointed because in fixing the date for hearing today, the court ought to have known that the Association of Judges and Magistrates will be having a conference from today through the weekend and that Salomey will have to be in custody until Monday, 5th October, when the court returns to sit after the Conference of Judges and Magistrates has ended.
“This is a sad situation that the liberty of an accused person cannot be decided because the Association of Judges and Magistrates is on a conference. It is very sad,” he said.
“So, the 4-year-old child, the 9-year-old child, and the 15-year-old boy [of Salomey] will be unable to see their mother until Monday, when the court makes a determination, because from today to Sunday, the Association of Judges and Magistrates are having a conference. Let’s pray for Mother Ghana,” he added.
The development follows the arrest of Salomey, who was reportedly arrested during a midnight operation at her residence in Hansua.
The incident reportedly occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
According to Salomey’s brother, who was present, three individuals, comprising two men and a woman, arrived at the residence at about 11:30 p.m. dressed in black uniforms, believed to be from National Security.
The family described the allegation as a case of mistaken identity and insists that Salomey has no association with the anonymous account.
Meanwhile, a day ago, a group of women stormed the streets to demand the immediate release of Salomey Awitey Baffoe, a nurse and mother of three.
Reports disclosed the women, who participated in the “Women’s Voices Matter” demonstration, gathering at the AMA Park before proceeding to the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), calling for fair treatment for Salomey Awitey Baffoe.
The women protesters further gave President John Dramani Mahama 24 hours to act, with some of them chanting, “John Mahama, free Salomey!” and “We are tired of John!”
The demonstration was marked by strong emotions, with some participants crying as they demanded Ms Baffoe’s release and questioned the circumstances surrounding her continued detention.
The protesters questioned the decision to keep Ms Baffoe in custody, arguing that she has been subjected to what they consider prolonged or unfair detention.
They further disclosed that the demonstration was not only about Salomey but also about drawing attention to broader issues affecting women.
