Speaking on Metro TV on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Kwadwo Twum Boafo stated, “I don’t think anybody has any problem with the Minority in Parliament holding the government to account. In fact, I think that it is very, very important that happens. But when the Minority Leader, my old friend, Afenyo, goes and stands in front of a microphone and threatens the well-being of a CEO of a public institution, that’s unfair”.

“Sammy Gyamfi, as we speak today, he has had to increase his personal security because of the things that they said regarding his bail. I mean, what is that for?” he questioned.

He added, “Say that you are not happy with what is going on. Say that you are not happy with the concept of GoldBod. Even tell us that when we come to power, we will proscribe GoldBod”.

“For them, it’s all about winning power so that they can line their pocket. Then when they finish, those that they will not give some of the money, they wake up in the morning and send them here,” he added.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Minority, during a press conference, cautioned that the current leadership of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) could face stringent bail conditions when the NPP returns to power.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the GoldBod leadership in the future could face “scary” bail conditions if the standards being applied to some former government officials are maintained.

Afenyo-Markin, who was speaking at a press conference today, August 18, drew a comparison between what he described as stringent bail conditions imposed on some former government officials facing investigations and similar treatment of the current administration should the NPP Return to power.

The minority leader argued that the NDC government is setting a precedent through the conditions attached to bail for some accused persons, which could eventually have consequences for officials currently in government.

Afenyo-Markin stated, “EOCO is going after people. The Attorney General’s press conferences are filled with accusations that individuals owe money, and those individuals are then invited to EOCO and later granted bail in huge sums”.

“If that is the case, then the bail for Goldbod will be scary because the GH¢22 billion losses recorded in just one year is simply shocking. The NDC keeps accusing the NPP of being thieves, yet the sale of gold alone has cost the country GH¢22 billion in a single year. And when we raise these issues, they resort to insults and confusion,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has taken the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to the cleaners over his recent threat of jailing officials of the GoldBod.

Sammy Gyamfi, speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, revealed he was not perturbed by the threats of jail by the Minority Leader.

Sammy Gyamfi described Afenyo-Markin’s comments as “the fanciful efficiency of a palm wine bar”, saying they should be treated as comic relief rather than serious parliamentary commentary.
