Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, has said some members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament are suffering financially.
According to Afenyo-Markin, some of the NDC are using ride-hailing services such as Uber to make it to parliamentary sittings.
The minority leader detailed that the NDC MPs, particularly those on the backbench and without appointments as board members, are suffering.
Speaking during an interview on Peace FM on November 28, 2025, Afenyo-Markin stated, “Our brothers in the NDC, we are in Parliament with them; they are 189, and they are suffering. Some of them come to Parliament with Uber. Some of them are on the backbench, and they are not on any board”.
Afenyo-Markin asserted that despite the NDC MPs’ challenges, they are together and selecting the long-term interest of their party.
“They are suffering, but they have a common understanding that they have to take time for the party. I am not saying that when some things are not going well, we shouldn’t say it”.
The minority leader further urged NPP members to learn from the NDC to restrain and remain committed to party unity, even in difficult times.
Afenyo-Markin in that same interview, told his fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to take inspiration from the NDC for the party to win back power in 2028.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the NPP can take inspiration from the NDC, as no one thought President Mahama could ever become president again, adding that political comebacks are possible when the party members are united.
Afenyo-Markin noted that when the NDC was in disarray, it took Asiedu Nketiah, the Ahwois and others to put the NDC together, so there is hope for the NPP.
He added, “Whoever thought John Mahama could be president again? Let us face the facts, it took Asiedu Nketiah to charge through the storm after Mahama lost by over one million votes in the 2016 elections. When the NDC was in disarray, when they had nobody, it took Asiedu Nketiah to put the party together”.
“NPP, don’t be sad. There is hope. Let us work together, and we can take inspiration from the NDC and win power,” he added.
Afenyo-Markin further begged all NPP members to put their anger against the former Akufo-Addo government aside and work together to win power.
He added, “Look, I am pleading with every NPP member: even if the government was not fair to you, put all your anger somewhere and let us work together to win”.
“It took Asiedu Nketiah, the Ahwois and others to put the NDC together. So, NPP, there is hope.”
Meanwhile, some netizens have reacted to the comments made by Afenyo-Markin, saying, “In other words, they are not being able to appropriate and embezzle funds like they would if they were in power. Is this supposed to be coming from a leader of such ranking?”.
“The NDC are no saint. It is just logically impossible to find an honest politician. No matter how you see the President. Mahama is still having and will always have a fabric of dishonesty as a politician. But the NPP shouldn’t be given a chance again, they are killers”, a netizen added.
