Anthony Karbo, the Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Organisation Committee, has rejected claims that the party’s upcoming national executive elections will produce candidates affiliated with flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to Anthony Karbo, who leads the NPP into the 2028 general elections has already been settled, with Dr Bawumia having emerged as the NPP’s flagbearer.
He disclosed that the NPP’s national executive elections in Kumasi focus on selecting competent officers to help organise the party and pursue its 2028 agenda.
When asked whether there is a “Bawumia candidate” in the elections, Anthony Karbo responded: “There can’t be. There can’t be.”
Anthony Karbo stressed that the party will go to Kumasi to elect national officers who can contribute to the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 elections, rather than vote for candidates whose primary qualification is their perceived relationship with the flagbearer.
“What we are going to Kumasi to do is essentially to elect people who are going to see the 2028 project come to fruition,” he stated.
He urged the party delegates to focus on the competence and capacity of the aspirants as they choose officers for the party’s National Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser.
According to him, candidates should not rely on their proximity to Dr Bawumia to secure support from delegates.
“We are not voting for people who are close to somebody. We are voting for efficient party officers who can help deliver the project,” he said.
Also, Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, has admitted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) still has the scars of its defeat in the 2024 general election.
According to Patrick Yaw Boamah, the NPP must work to rebuild public confidence and trust while generating renewed interest in the NPP from the grassroots.
The NPP MP highlighted that the party’s immediate focus should include the election of new national officers.
He also urged NPP members to be mindful of their conduct and public statements.
Patrick Boamah warned that individual actions could affect the image of the party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidates as they seek to rebuild public confidence and trust.
He further cautioned members against turning the party’s preparations into what he described as a “beauty contest”.
Speaking in a video shared on his social media page on September 26, 2026, Patrick Yaw Boamah stated, “We still have the wounds of 2024 around us, and we are working very hard to generate a lot of interest in the party from the police station to the national executive level”.
“I believe the next phase is to elect national executives or national officers. We need to build a lot of confidence in the public and a lot of trust,” he said.
“People, there shouldn’t be any beauty contest or whatever to see yourself as the most popular or the most this, to outshine the image of the flagbearer who leads the party’s charge to win the next general election,” he said.
“There are a lot of things that we do. Our utterances, our public statements, and also be strategic and tactful with our communication. That is what I entreat members to do,” he added.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has completed balloting for candidates contesting its national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.
On Wednesday, September 9, the balloting was carried out to determine the positions of the aspirants on the ballot papers.
John Boadu, the Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has picked up the number one position on the ballot paper for the party’s National Chairmanship election scheduled for October 3, 2026.
Sammy Crabbe picked the second position, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko secured the third slot.
Boakye Agyarko, a former Energy Minister, will occupy the fourth position on the ballot paper.
