Carlos Queiroz, the head coach of the Black Stars, has boldly stated that the Three Lions of England were very lucky in the game against Ghana.
According to Carlos Queiroz, Ghana could have emerged with all three points.
He argued that the refereeing decision went against his side, citing the foul on Prince Kwabena Adu by Ezri Konsa as a clear penalty.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, Carlos Queiroz stated, “We had our chances to the point that they are lucky, they are very lucky. It was a clear penalty [on Prince Kwabena Adu by Ezri Konsa] and a red card. At the end of the day, that’s why I say it was a fair result”.
Carlos Queiroz further went on to praise his players for their resilient display that earned Ghana a hard-fought point against England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He also commended his side’s discipline and work ethic throughout the contest.
He added, “To collect points in this World Cup, you have to pay a high price; the points are very expensive…the wins and points are terribly expensive. When you get three points and one point, you have to celebrate because it was a lot of runs, a lot of sacrifices, a lot of commitment…during the game”.
Ghana held England to a goalless draw in their Group L encounter in Boston, extending their unbeaten start to the tournament following an opening 1-0 victory over Panama.
The Black Stars’ draw leaves Ghana in a strong position in Group L, having collected four points from their opening two matches without conceding a goal.
Meanwhile, before the game, Carlos Queiroz sent a strong message boosting the morale of Ghanaians and the team ahead of Ghana’s second game against England on Tuesday in Boston.
According to Carlos Queiroz, England has three lions, but Ghana will be backed by 33 million Ghanaians whom he described as ‘lions’ supporting the national team.
Speaking at his pre-match conference, Carlos Queiroz disclosed, “We have a great match in front of us. This is what we are looking for all our lives: to be in the right environment at the right time and to play against the best players in the world.
“We know how England plays. They have excellent players, and they have experience in the Premier League. They have intensity, but we know how we can control this. We know they have three lions, but we have 33 million lions.”
The Portuguese trainer added, “We are in this competition for points. It is to get the points in order to qualify. That is the most important thing for us”.
Carlos Queiroz also added that Ghana’s game against England will be a huge entertainment on the pitch as it will remain in the memories and hearts of the world.
“Trust me, there will be huge entertainment on the pitch. We belong to the entertainment business. We are going to fight, play, and enjoy ourselves. I guarantee you the match will remain in the memories and hearts of people when it finishes.”, he added.
