Tragic – 7 dead, dozens injured in Offinso-Abofuor head-on collision

Seven people have been confirmed dead in a tragic accident on the Offinso-Abofuor Highway in the Ashanti Region, with a dozen others injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the horrific accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, 2025.

The incident occurred between the Samproso and Awisam communities near Offinso.

An eyewitness, identified as Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, speaking to the media, narrated that a commercial bus from Techiman to Kumasi with registration GT 5509-20 collided head-on with a trailer transporting cement with registration GN 5326-22.

Kwadwo Obeng Mireku stated, “The trailer, loaded with cement from a factory in Samproso, stalled on the road after its engine failed. The oncoming bus from Techiman, travelling at high speed, hit the trailer. Six people died at the scene, while others were critically injured,”

He further detailed that one more victim later died after being transported to the hospital.

The deceased and injured were transported to St. Patrick Hospital in Offison Maase.

Meanwhile, the police visited the scene to clear the road and have subsequently launched an investigation to find out the cause of the accident that claimed 7 lives.

In related news, two people have been killed and 21 others injured after a church bus carrying Adom Kyei’s Church members crashed.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred on the Assin Fosu–Kumasi highway on the night of January 1, 2025.

The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. when a church-branded bus returning worshippers from a 31st Night service in Kumasi rammed into a crowd gathered for a street parade at Assin Dansame.

The bus, upon reaching Assin Dansame, collided with a crowd participating in a street parade, killing a 21-year-old apprentice and a Sunyani Technical University student, Maame Yaa, and another victim who died on the spot.

Reports suggest 21 other people sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to different hospitals across the region.

The information gathered suggests the accident sparked outrage among residents, which led to the youths vandalising the bus.

The bus was completely destroyed; however, the Police were deployed to restore calm.

ASP Wonder Lumor of the Central North Regional MTTD Commander confirmed the incident.

He revealed investigations have been launched to determine the cause of the crash.
