A Trotro mate has lost his life after falling under a moving vehicle.

According to reports, the tragic accident occurred at the Tech Junction in Kumasi.

Reports suggest the incident occurred when the mate reportedly jumped out of a moving trotro in an attempt to register for the next trip.

The Trotro mate is said to have slipped falling under the vehicle’s wheels, leading to the Trotro colliding with another Trotro vehicle loading passengers at the station.

A lotto operator at the station who witnessed the incident stated, “The mate jumped out of the moving van to register for the next load, but he slipped and fell. Their own vehicle hit him, and as he tried to get up, another van behind also ran him over,” she explained.

The Trotro mate was rushed to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

However, the Police has launched an investigation into the incident.

In other news, A 50-year-old Trotro driver has been arrested by the Ashanti South Regional Police Command with 714 slabs of suspected indian hemp.

The Ghana Police Service, Ashanti South Regional Police Command, intercepted a large consignment of suspected Indian hemp during a routine snap check.

Reports suggest the arrest was made on Tuesday, January 26, 2026, at the Asanso checkpoint along the Bekwai–Aputogya road.

Officers of the Bekwai District Police Command arrested the 50-year-old Trotro driver after a search conducted on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus revealed nine nylon sacks containing 714 slabs.

According to the Police, the suspect claimed the consignment was handed to him by an unknown person at the Kejetia Lorry Terminal in Kumasi.

He revealed he was asked to deliver the consignment to an unidentified individual in Obuasi for a fee of GH¢600.

The Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, addressing the media, announced that the suspected narcotic substances have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus has also been impounded, with the suspect arraigned before court.

DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba further stressed that the Police Service is dedicated to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
