Muntaka Mubarak, the Interior Minister, has refuted allegations suggesting that former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer, Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, is enjoying any form of special treatment while serving her sentence.

According to the Interior Minister, Ghanaians should trust the NDC government, stressing that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is serving his term and not in any private residence.

He further argued that the state is not obliged to publicly reveal the exact prison location of high-profile convicts.

Speaking in an interview on JOY NEWS, the Interior Minister stated, “From the day she came, she has been with us, and she’s with us, and she’s serving her term”.

“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, telling people that this kind of high-profile person is here can even lead to the death of that person. So it’s for safety,” he explained.

He added, “Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us.”

“Was she not sentenced? She was. If she were sentenced, where would she be? You must be in prison custody,” he said.

The Interior Minister further disclosed that individuals who wish to confirm her whereabouts or arrange visits can do so through the formal procedures of the Ghana Prisons Service.

In related news, the  Minority in Parliament is pressing the John Mahama government, demanding the full details of the whereabouts of former MASLCO CEO Sedina Tamakloe–Attionu.

According to the Minority, the Mahama government claims that Sedina Attionu-Tamakloe is in prison custody is insufficient.

The Minority demanded details surrounding her return to Ghana and confirmed whether she is currently serving the 10-year prison sentence.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, June 19, the Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, stated, “Government communication on Sedina is a very terse one. We are having an accountable democracy where you expect government to provide full details in terms of where she was received and where she has been sent to, exactly who received her, and then the details as to whether she’s in there to serve the full sentence as we have her convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction”.

“It is not adequate for a government spokesperson to say that she is in prison custody; you can be under the care of prisons and still be in one home or the other. You can be in the hospital and still be under the care of the prison service”, he stated.

The MP added, “We want definitive information from the Minister for Government Communications. Exactly what is the status of Sedina in terms of her arrival in Ghana in prison custody?

If they provide us with the exact details, then Ghanaians would have the opportunity to understand that she’s in to serve the full term of her conviction. If the government had given us all the information, we wouldn’t be in this state of speculation.

If she has indeed been taken there, why is the information not coming from the government? We expect the government to be candid with its people. They should give us full details of her whereabouts.

We expect that the government will come out clearly. We are dissatisfied with the information that has been put out there, and we expect the government ministry to do the needful with regard to that”, he added.
