Sammi Awuku, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, has revealed that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has identified about 35 alleged scandals involving the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to Sammi Awuku, the NPP intends to expose the NDC’s 35 scandals before the 2028 general election.
The NPP Akuapem North MP disclosed that the party would progressively make the issues public between now and the next election.
He warned that the number could increase as more allegations emerge.
Speaking on UTV, Sammi Awuku stated, “My brother Ablakwa did a good job in opposition. Let me even salute him on that. On presidential travels, he was still able to give us quotations of how much the cost was, per hour of President Akufo-Addo’s flight”.
“So it should not be difficult now that you are the ones with all the documents to give us invoices of the flight. The flight they used was Ethiopian Airlines flights; we are in the industry”.
He further added, “NPP has enough information; that is why we are asking that the minister and the ministry give us the information we have requested for”.
He further added, “NPP, we have about 35 scandals of the NDC, and these would be rolled out from now till the 2028 elections. If some come up, it will be more than 35”.
Sammi Awuku further added, “With the World Cup, I can confidently tell you today that some regional executives of the NDC were the conduits the appointees used to collect money from unsuspecting victims”.
The amount of challenge we are going to mount for Ghanaians to weigh the NDC on their reset promises. When the pressure started, it did not come to the appointees it came to their regional executives who were in charge of the mobilisation. This is not rocket science; if they want it, we will provide them with names and voice notes”.
Meanwhile, the NPP have already turned the heat on Ablakwa, giving him 7 days to account for South Africa evacuation spending.
The NPP issued a seven-day deadline to Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to disclose detailed records of expenditure on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa, threatening to pursue additional action if the documents are not provided.
The party’s Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, announced the demand at a press briefing on Sunday, October 18, insisting that the government must account for the public funds reportedly used for the exercise.
According to the NPP, they want Ablakwa to release contracts and invoices for chartered flights, payment vouchers, signed payment records and a comprehensive list of all 1,964 evacuees, including evidence of payments made in respect of each individual.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye said the documents should be made available within seven days through the relevant Right to Information (RTI) process and to Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
The NPP is also demanding an explanation of the process used to select the charter flight operator, including whether the procurement complied with the Public Procurement Act.
Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, October 18, Miracles Aboagye stated, “Produce the complete set of documents within 7 days. Lay before the RTI requisition and Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee every charter invoice and contract, every payment voucher, every signed sheet, and the full list of 1,964 evacuees with proof of payment against each name”.
They further called on the Minister to account for the reported GH¢16 million expenditure, providing details of how the money was used and clarifying whether any portion was paid in cash or spent on purchases.
Questions have also been raised about information relating to ASKY Airlines and differences between two versions of a letter identified as CC/7. The NPP wants the discrepancies explained and confirmation of which version was presented to the Auditor-General.
The NPP is also proposing an independent audit by an internationally recognised firm. It wants the audit’s terms of reference and final findings published for public scrutiny.
Although the NPP welcomed the Auditor-General’s review of the expenditure, Mr Aboagye maintained that further accountability measures were necessary.
