James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cried out over the party’s neglect of the grassroots.

According to James Agbey, the party risks alienating its grassroots supporters unless government appointees address concerns about neglect and a lack of economic opportunities.

In a statement issued on October 16, James Agbey accused appointees of overlooking activists and cadres who worked to secure the party’s return to power.

He further stressed that the NDC party activists are struggling with unemployment and financial hardship, while appointees are prioritising relatives and close associates over those who supported the party in opposition.

James Agbey, in his statement, wrote, “The feeling out there at the base is that we have been used and dumped”.

“Everything seems to have changed after the elections. Appointees are now prioritising their families and close allies, some of whom were not even part of the struggle,” he alleged.

According to James Agbey, the NDC’s grassroots concerns required practical intervention rather than occasional handouts or promises of future support.

“All that these party activists are asking for is opportunities to be able to fend for themselves,” he stated.

He further warned that unresolved grievances could weaken loyalty and lead dissatisfied activists to turn against the government.

“Our support for the NDC must not be taken for granted,” he cautioned.

The NDC operative also called for urgent action, saying, “I call for urgent action, or we will have ourselves to blame come the electioneering season”.

In related NDC news, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said the party’s real danger is not the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mustapha Gbande, the NDC’s biggest threat ahead of the 2028 elections is the NDC itself.

The NDC man argued that the party’s fortunes will be largely determined by how it manages its internal relationships, members and governance.

He further urged the NDC to focus less on NPP’s newly elected executives and pay greater attention to maintaining unity within its own ranks.

Gbande said the party’s handling of its internal structures and relationships would determine its success in the next general election.

He denied suggestions that the NPP’s new leadership poses a major threat to the NDC.

Speaking on Onua TV’s Onua Maakye, Mustapha Gbande stated, “The real danger to the NDC is not the NPP conference; it is the NDC and its governance”.

“The danger can only come from within our own house rather than from the current crop of executives chosen by our political opponents,” he said.

“How we manage our relationships, our members and our structures ahead of 2028 is what will determine our success,” he stated.

“Our biggest threat is not the NPP,” he said.

“If the NPP believes violence is the path back to power, the NDC should not be underestimated,” he said.
