Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, an aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has fired shots at NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong.

According to Kwesi Botchwey Jnr, the NPP as a party needs someone with mental fortitude to be president, not someone who will require injections to chair cabinet meetings.

Speaking on Movement TV, Kwesi Botchwey Jnr stated, “We need a president who has the emotional and mental fortitude, who has a mental resilience even in the face of extreme provocation, he will not say this person is poor, so he should keep quiet.

That type of president, before you speak at a cabinet meeting unless you must bring your bank statement, because the president does not like poor people, he told Jennifer Queen and also told Abronye.

His presidency, if care is not taken before the cabinet meeting, if he is not injected, there will be no cabinet meeting”, Kwesi Botchwey Jnr stated.

Netizen on X reacting to Kwesi Botchwey Jnr comments stated, “People like Kwesi Botchway do not think of the “aftermath” of the primaries. Will he campaign for the party if Ken becomes the flagbearer of the party? How would he convince me not to take his initial view about Ken?. Over to you, NPP”.

A netizen added, “Looking at the utterances from both leading camps, it clearly shows you are handing the 2028 campaign message for the NDC”.

“This is very bad and unfortunate. Kwasi, you got it all wrong on this one!! We cannot continue on this path, it is unhealthy, it is bad, and above all, it murky the future project. Nahhhh!!”, another netizen added.

“Eii, meyɛm koraa ahye me. To say that Someone who can lead your party needs to be injected before forming a cabinet when he becomes the president is denigrating. You’re just beginning your political career, and this is how you’re going to start? Hmmm, such an unwise character”, one X user added.

Meanwhile, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has told all New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirants to prioritise issue-based campaigning.

He urged the NPP aspirants to maintain a tone of mutual respect ahead of the January 31, 2026, presidential primaries.

Akufo-Addo made this known when he hosted the five aspirants vying for the NPP’s presidential nomination at a breakfast meeting held at his private residence in Nima, Accra, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.

The former president emphasised the importance of a clean and respectful contest.

He encouraged the spirit of camaraderie among the aspirants and called for a unified NPP to recapture power.
