Kwesi Pratt Jnr, a Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster and Pan-Africanist, has questioned what former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy General Secretary Nana Obiri Boahen may have seen or heard to prompt his warning to President John Dramani Mahama.
The Veteran Journalist drew attention to comments made by Nana Obiri Boahen on Wontumi TV, where he warned President Mahama to remain “extra vigilant” when dealing with members of the NPP.
According to Obiri Boahen, some individuals were quietly plotting “evil” against the country and urged President Mahama to be particularly cautious.
Nana Obiri Boahen cited the 1966 coup that removed Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, from power, contending that the overthrow demonstrated how political opponents could bring down a government despite its achievements.

Speaking on Wontumi TV last Saturday, Obiri Boahen, who is a practising lawyer, claimed that some people are quietly plotting “evil” against the country and added that President Mahama must be “extra vigilant” especially in his dealings with members of the NPP.
He pointed to the February 24, 1966 coup which toppled the Nkrumah government under the direction of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States of America.
Obiri Boahen insists that although the achievements of the Nkrumah government were admirable, his opponents still managed to overthrow him.
The important question is what has Obiri Boahen seen or heard?”
In related news, Nana Obiri Boahen, the former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged President John Dramani Mahama to open his eyes and ears about happenings within his administration.
According to Obiri Boahen, several things within the Mahama administration are going wrong, warning that the development could negatively affect Mahama’s legacy if he fails to tackle them.
Nana Obiri Boahen asked President Mahama to take a cue from the late President Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s tenure and be guided by the lessons of history.
He recounted that despite the late Nkrumah’s significant contributions to Ghana, he was subjected to mockery following his overthrow.
He urged President Mahama to be extra careful in managing his administration.
Speaking in an interview on a YouTube channel, Nana Obiri Boahen stated, “So Mahama should be careful. Mahama is my elder brother, and he should be guided by the lessons of history.
A lot of things happening in your government are not coming from you, but they are happening. Open your eyes and ears and see what’s happening. Be extra careful because there has been a time in this country when people insulted Kwame Nkrumah”.
“Kwame Nkrumah did all he could do for the country, and when he was overthrown on 24 February 1966, the money that was printed with his picture was used as a song to insult him. I am a historian, and I am talking about this. To the extent that after the fall of Kwame Nkrumah, all his books were burnt. So Mahama should be very careful and extra careful.
“So, he should be extra careful. He shouldn’t listen only to those close to him because those people are only interested in what they will eat. He should try and listen outside. But if Prof. Mills were to be in government, a lot of the things happening wouldn’t happen today,” he added.
