“When NPP big members were hiding under tables, Bawumia stood up” – Okyere Baafi

News“When NPP big members were hiding under tables, Bawumia stood up” - Okyere Baafi

Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has recounted how former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, defended the New Patriotic Party over the years.

The New Juaben South cited the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court in which Bawumia was the chief witness for the NPP for 8 months.

According to Michael Okyere Baafi, when things were tough in Ghana, and some NPP big members were hiding, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia stood tall and defended the party.

Speaking to delegates of his constituency in Koforidua, Michael Okyere Baafi described those who hide under a table as cowards who are now making noise, claiming they are real party members.

Michael Okyere Baafi stated, “When it was very tough in Ghana here, and some NPP big members were hiding under tables, he was the one who stood up for the party,” Otchere Baafi said, referencing the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court, which Bawumia was the chief witness for the NPP for 8 months.

He defended the party in the 2012 election petition at the Supreme Court after the NPP was cheated at the polls. Some of the cowards who went into hiding are now out saying they are the real party members and Dr Bawumia is not a true member.”

He added, “The person who stood up and defended the party at the Supreme Court and ensured that many election reforms were implemented to pave the way for the NPP to win power, is the one I am endorsing, and I am urging all of you to support on January 31.”

“I’m saying that the 31st January election is not a joke. It’s a crucial election, and we need an experienced person. We need someone who has been well-marketed and is well-known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” the MP said.

Also, Francis Asenso Boakye, the member of parliament for Bantama, has told the New Patriotic Party (NPP) it will be suicidal to change Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer.

According to Asenso Boakye, Dr Bawumia T-shirts and billboards are all over the place, so there is no need to change him.

The Bantama MP was quoted by Oyerepa TV to have said, “It will be politically suicidal if we change Dr Bawumia as our flagbearer, his T-shirts and billboards are all over the place, so why change him?”

Meanwhile, the Global InfoAnalytics latest poll has revealed that former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia continues to dominate the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

The Global InfoAnalytics revealed that the poll was conducted between 17th and 21st November 2025 among 3,500 delegates across all 16 regions.

The poll, however, shows that Dr Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong’s support has slightly declined since October.

Global InfoAnalytics’ likely voters’ model indicated that, “Dr Bawumia: 42.7%, Kennedy Agyapong: 17.7%, Dr Bryan Acheampong: 4.6%, Dr Yaw Adutwum: 0.3%, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong: 0.3%”.

With 14.9% of delegates not disclosing their voting intentions, while 19.3% remain.

Also, committed voters, Dr Bawumia’s lead widens: “Dr Bawumia: 63.3%, Kennedy Agyapong: 28.6%, and Dr Acheampong: 6.9%”.

The poll revealed that Dr Bawumia leads in 13 regions, with Kennedy ahead only in the Volta region, with the Central region tied.

Furthermore, Mussa Dankwah, the Executive Director, Global Info Analytics, has made a bold call that Kennedy Agyapong will win the Volta Region in NPP’s presidential primaries, Dr. Bawumia will win in the Eastern Region.
