Ghanaians on X, following the US Embassy in Ghana’s post confirming the extradition of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, a former MASLOC CEO, netizens have been quizzing the Embassy on when they are going to return former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
The US Embassy in Ghana, in a social media post, disclosed that Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu’s extradition from the US to Ghana is the first extradition since 2009.
According to the United States Embassy in Ghana, Justice has no borders.
In an X post on June 9, 2026, “Justice has no borders. The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to Ghana, following her conviction on 70+ corruption-related charges, including embezzling more than $6M equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer funds.
This is our strong U.S.-Ghana law enforcement partnership in action, demonstrating a shared commitment to accountability and the first extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009”.
According to Ghanaians on X, if the US Embassy in Ghana is clear that justice has no borders, then Ken Ofori-Atta must be returned to Ghana to face accountability.
Netizen reacting to the US Embassy in Ghana post stated, “When will you send Ken Ofori Atta to Ghana as well to account for money stolen in the MSL deal? We are interested in that case as well”.
A netizen added, “There’s still one big elephant in the room
The former finance minister is still at large in the US. Hope the law continues to take its course”.
“Kudos to America for bringing back the convicted thief when this NDC govt deliberately failed to bring her to face justice. I’m reliably informed there’re arrangements to pardon her by Mahama and the Chief Justice”, one X user added.
A netizen added, “Excellent job, @USEmbassyGhana. Politicians will now think twice before embezzling state funds and stealing from the citizens, knowing full well that there is no safe haven in the West for them to hide. Please try to extradite Hon. Ken Ofori as well. Many thanks!”.
“@USEmbassyGhana, you can only take full credit and applause for a good job done if and only if you complete the work of an extradition by bringing former finance minister Mr Ken Ofori Atta. Just read the comments, and everyone is asking about him. Your work is incomplete”, one X user added.
Meanwhile, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Government spokesperson, has disclosed that Ghana’s Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine, will hold discussions with officials of the United States Department of Justice to address all pending extradition requests between the two countries.
According to Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the high-level bilateral discussions will take place following the successful extradition of former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, to Ghana.
Reports suggest the expected discussion will cover several high-profile cases currently attracting public attention, including Ghana’s request for the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and the United States request for the extradition of a number of individuals wanted in connection with various criminal investigations, including a suspect identified as Abu Trica.
In a Facebook post, Felix Kwaky Ofosu stated, “In April, 2024, the High Court convicted and sentenced SEDINA TAMAKLOE-ATTIONU in absentia. In July 2024, the Government of Ghana submitted an extradition request to the United States for her surrender to Ghana to serve her sentence.
After over two years of court proceedings, the United States authorities notified the Government of her surrender in January this year. She arrived in Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Officials of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have taken her into custody and are making the necessary preparations for her to begin her sentence.
Meanwhile, the Attorney-General is scheduled to meet his counterparts at the United States Department of Justice for a bilateral discussion on all pending extradition requests between the two countries”.
