Angry Ghanaians on social media have launched a scathing attack on Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa, following his post defending Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
It will be recalled that the NPP Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded Ablakwa’s immediate resignation or dismissal over alleged financial irregularities in the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament also announced plans to initiate a vote of censure against Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
According to the Minority, should Ablakwa remain in office over the alleged scandal involving the evacuation exercise conducted some months ago, they will consider initiating a parliamentary process for a vote of censure under Article 82 of the Constitution.
The Minority stressed that the move was necessary to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of public office.
However, Franklin Cudjoe, in a post, boldly told the NPP minority in parliament that Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is not going anywhere.
The IMANI President defended Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa against calls for his resignation over alleged financial irregularities in the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
He argued that Ablakwa is Ghana’s most effective Foreign Affairs Minister since 1992.
According to Franklin Cudjoe, those criticising the minister should not be taken seriously, arguing that their arguments are more suited to entertainment than serious public debate.
He noted that those accusing Ablakwa of wrongdoing had not provided convincing evidence that he committed any crime in the humanitarian exercise.
In a social media post on X, Franklin Cudjoe wrote, “None, no one shouting and making noise has so far been able to convince any sensible Ghanaian that the Foreign Minister has committed any crime in the humanitarian evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.
Ignore the noisy gang whose presentations are at best passing for entertainment of Clowns in a bazaar! Hon Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is going NOWHERE! He remains our most diligent, effective, efficient and impactful Foreign Minister since 1992!”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to Franklin Cudjoe’s post defending Ablakwa quizzed him if he had been bewitched, saying, “Ghanaians are comfortable with Joynews research desk reports!
Who has bewitched our dear Franklin?”
Another netizen jabbed Franklin Cudjoe, saying, “U will think people love Ghana until their preferred candidate is in power. Then u will know they their pockets more. Suddenly, they all become blind to corruption and state capture!”
One X user added, “This argument is a masterclass in defending a government official without addressing the substance of the allegations.
He says no sensible Ghanaian has been convinced that Ablakwa committed a crime. But who has established that no wrongdoing occurred? Has there been a transparent, independent examination of the disputed expenditure and the inconsistencies raised?
Calling critics a “noisy gang” and their arguments “entertainment of clowns” is not a defence; it is an attempt to ridicule legitimate questions instead of answering them.
Franklin, since when did accountability become entertainment? If public funds were properly spent, let the records speak. If everything was above board, transparency should be the easiest response.
And declaring that Ablakwa is “going nowhere” misses the point entirely. The issue is not whether Ablakwa will remain Foreign Minister; it is whether every cedi spent on the evacuation can withstand public scrutiny.
Ghana needs accountability, not political worship. Public office is a responsibility, not a licence to escape scrutiny”.
One last netizen noted, “Political allegiance is why Ghana keeps normalising mediocrity. What do you stand to gain by defending this?
In 2026, why are we handing out public money in envelopes instead of using traceable payment systems?
Instead of demanding answers, you are attacking those asking questions.
Ghana will never progress if personal loyalty matters more than accountability. Shame on you”.
Additionally, another X user added, “This is nothing but damage control to save the face of your very corrupt crony, Ablakwa”.

Franklin Cudjoe (@lordcudjoe), you built your reputation on one principle: public officials must account for public money. That is why your latest outburst may disappoint many but it does not disappoint me at all, because I saw through your hate-driven, pseudo-policy advocacy against President Akufo-Addo many years ago. On the South Africa evacuation, Ghana’s best-known accountability think tank president has apparently traded the auditor’s pen for the cheerleader’s pom-pom. First, you are answering a question nobody asked. No serious person claims it was wrong to rescue Ghanaians from xenophobic violence. The Minority has stated clearly that it supported the evacuation. The real question is simple: where did GH¢49.7 million go, and why do the documents not add up? So, MR THINK TANK PRESIDENT, hiding behind the word “humanitarian” does not answer that. A good cause is not a blank cheque. Second, “no crime has been proven” is not the standard IMANI applies to anyone else. Mr Cudjoe, you know very well that accountability begins with unanswered questions, not convictions. When figures fail to reconcile, THE PRESIDENT of a serious think tank calls for an audit; he does not declare the matter closed before auditors have even been appointed. Today, the Minority says GH¢16.4 million requires explanation. It has also questioned the cost of the charter flights. And independent journalists not NPP communicators have found evacuees who say they received GH¢2,000 rather than the promised GH¢5,500. Is JoyNews also part of a “noisy gang”? Third, the Minister’s own defence raises more questions than it settles. Mr Ablakwa admits he did not personally distribute the money, yet insists every evacuee was paid in full. His principal evidence is that nobody complained. Since when has “no complaint” constituted proof of payment? Vulnerable people who have just fled violence are not the auditors of state funds. Records are. Fourth, insults are not arguments. Describing citizens and legislators who ask questions about taxpayers’ money as “clowns in a bazaar” is beneath IMANI. Such language belongs to uneducated, uncultured, brainless and clumsy party foot soldiers, not THE PRESIDENT of policy institute that claims independence. When the referee begins abusing one team, he has abandoned the referee’s chair. Finally, calling Mr Ablakwa “the most diligent foreign minister since 1992” is a slogan, not an analysis. If he is as clean as IMANI’s president believes, he has nothing to fear. He can step aside and allow an internationally reputable firm to audit the exercise. Anyone genuinely committed to transparency should support that. Mr Think Tank President, you should be leading that call not shouting it down. NB: Ghanaians do not need a character reference. They need the receipts
