A young man has been arrested after allegedly stealing a mobile phone at Kumasi Magazine.

Reports suggest the young man was apprehended after entering a shop to purchase a vehicle starter, but he allegedly stole a mobile phone before leaving.

 According to sources, the young man’s plan backfired after the vehicle starter failed to work, returning to the same shop for a replacement.

However, his luck had run out as the shop owner had already reviewed CCTV footage and identified him as the suspect, leading to his arrest.

The news was shared by EDHUB on social media, stating, “A young man was apprehended at the Kumasi Magazine after an attempt to ‘kill two birds with one stone.” According to reports, he entered a shop to purchase a vehicle starter, but during the transaction, he allegedly stole a mobile phone and left.

His plan backfired when the starter he bought failed to work, prompting him to return to the same shop to request a replacement.

By then, the shop owner had already reviewed CCTV footage and identified him as the suspected thief. The owner quickly confronted and arrested him upon his return”.

In related crime news, the Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced 46-year-old mason Kwame Obeng to 48 months in prison.

Kwame Obeng was sentenced to 48 months in prison for stealing 17 cattle valued at GH¢228,000.

In court, Obeng admitted taking the animals, explaining that he acted out of hardship.

He further claimed his employer had failed to pay an agreed GH¢700 salary, and he had to support two children as well.

The information gathered suggests, the incident happened on October 30 when the accused took 21 cattle out to graze and never returned.

Kwame Obeng later sold 17 cattle for GH¢96,000, receiving an initial payment of GH¢30,000.

However, the buyer, upon realising the cattle were stolen, reported the accused to the police, leading to his arrest.

The State News in a post on X wrote, “Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced 46-year-old mason Kwame Obeng to 48 months in prison for stealing 17 cattle valued at GH¢228,000.

According to the prosecution, Obeng admitted taking the animals, explaining that he acted out of hardship. He claimed his employer had failed to pay an agreed GH¢700 salary and that he had two children to support”.

The post added, “The incident occurred on October 30, when Obeng took 21 cattle out to graze but never returned with them. The owner, Mr Evans Bortsie, subsequently reported the matter to the police.

Investigations revealed that Obeng sold 17 of the cattle for GH¢96,000, receiving an initial payment of GH¢30,000. The buyer later became suspicious after realising the animals were stolen and alerted the police, inviting Obeng to collect the remaining money. He was arrested upon arrival”.
