Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah breaks down in tears

Prof Smart Sarpong, a Senior Researcher at Kumasi Technical University (KTU) has told Chief of Staff Julius Debrah to toughen up after weeping in Church.

According to Prof Smart Sarpong, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah cannot be president like this, always crying.

Prof Smart Sarpong recounted several instances in which Julius Debrah has been seen crying publicly.

He asserted that the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah is a potential aspirant for the upcoming flagbearership, questioning if he is going to cry like this once he becomes president.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo on April 28, 2026, Prof Sarpong said, “The twist I have is in the person of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.

“In fact, he appeared on the list of potential aspirants for the upcoming flagbearership. So, if he wins and becomes President, is this how he is going to cry? Because all sorts of things will be said against you when you are President… maybe he is too emotional; I think he should toughen himself up.”

He further added, “When Dr Omane Boamah and Murtala Mohammed died, Julius Debrah cried. His sibling also died, and he cried. So, I am surprised at the pattern. If you become President, a lot will be said about you. Will you cry? Maybe he is too emotional, so he needs to toughen up a bit.”

His comments come on the heels of  Julius Debrah, has broken down in tears as he apologises to the Chairman of Pentecost Church, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, following an attack by FreeZones CEO.

Speaking during Church Service at the Pentecost Church on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Julius Debrah broke down in tears while apologising to the Chairman of Pentecost Church, saying, “The chairman of our church, you know, myself, Hon Elder Ofosu-Ampofo, our local government minister and several others are members of your church.

A few days ago, one of our colleagues, Dr Mary Awusi, slipped a bit against you, and I will want on this ocassion to commemorate my birthday to let the whole church forgive us. It was just a slip; it was not intentionally done to malign our church.

I believe sincerely that you will forgive her, and forgive us and accept us as your children. God richly bless all of you”.

Similarly, Apostle Eric Nyamekye addressed the comments made by Dr Mary Awusi.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, he holds no grudges, suggesting the situation ultimately brought more attention to the church and its mission.

In a post by TV3 Ghana on X stated, “Following a tearful apology from the Chief of Staff on behalf of the government, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has addressed the comments made by Dr Mary Awusi.

Apostle Nyamekye stated he holds no grudges, suggesting the situation ultimately brought more attention to the church and its mission”.

A news card shared by TV3 read, “I have forgiven her. She has only made our church and myself more popular”.

The development follows Dr Mary Awusi, who begged the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, after her earlier warning.

According to the Free Zones CEO, she retracts and apologises, adding that she sincerely apologises as she is only human.

She asserted that her comments may have offended the church leader, the Church, and the general public and pleaded for forgiveness.

Speaking on Accra FM on Friday, April 24, 2026,  Dr Awusi stated, “I retract and apologise. I have great respect for the man of God, considering his position as Chairman of the Church of Pentecost. In expressing myself, I may have offended him, the Church, and the general public, and for that, I sincerely apologise. I am human,” she stated.
