Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP), has launched yet another attack on a judge, this time around the circuit court judge handling the case of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, commonly known as Abronye DC.

The minority leader, speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, fired shots at the circuit court judge, alleging that he doubts whether the judge passed his law exams.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he will continue to disrespect the circuit court judge until he upholds the law, alleging that the judge has no respect for his own judicial oath.

Speaking at a press briefing on May 17, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “That judge has no respect for his own judicial oath. I don’t think he read the law. That circuit court judge called Niger. I have no respect for him. For a judge to say that he’s remanding him into BNI custody until the case is finally determined, such a judge can never have my respect.

“I pray that he summons me for contempt. I will continue to disrespect him until he upholds the law. He’s gone beyond his judicial function, and it is not his first time. It’s as if he has been selected purposely to achieve this. He doesn’t talk law. I don’t know whether he ever passed his law exams. He’s a shame,” he fumed.

Afenyo-Markin added, “It’s a shame on the judiciary, and my Lord Baffoe must pay attention to this, for whatever it is, it’s about his legacy. I’m told that by December, he will be 70, and he will be gone. Is that the legacy he wants to leave after Torkornoo was booted out of office and all manner of accusations levelled against Torkornoo? Is that the judiciary?

“The judiciary, they said, they were going to reset. Is that a reset? Where a judge will say he is remanding an accused person because if he allows him to go home, if he grants him bail, he’s likely to talk again, so he should remain in custody?” he said.

His comments follow Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who has been rearrested today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Reports suggest that Abronye has been remanded for two weeks as investigations continue into allegations of misinformation and offensive public statements.

The information gathered suggests that authorities have now taken him back into custody as security agencies intensify investigations into the allegations against him.

It will be recalled that Abronye DC was released by the Ghana Police Service following his arrest on Monday, April 13, 2026.

A viral video shared by TV3 on Monday evening showed the moment Abronye was released by the police.

In the viral video, Abronye was captured in the company of leading figures of the party, including the Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin; Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib; and the National Organiser of the party, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), and others.

Meanwhile, it will be recalled that veteran broadcaster Kwesi Pratt had earlier issued a stern warning to Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader, following his scathing attack on Ghana’s judiciary following the Tamale High Court’s decision.

According to Kwesi Pratt, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s allegations against the Judiciary as working in the interest of their paymaster are unfair and a clear contempt.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Metro TV on December 10, 2025, Pratt stated, “Now, you see, so many things have changed over the years. Some of the things that happened yesterday in the 1960s and 1970s would have resulted in people going to prison today for contempt. There’s an application before the Court of Appeal, 24 hours before the court sits”.

He continued, “Somebody who is a lawyer addresses a press conference and is warning the Court of Appeal judges not to take a certain position. That’s clear contempt. Clear contempt.

“Who are you, before the judges have heard the case to hold a press conference to warn the judges that they must take a particular decision or that you will hold them responsible for the chaos that will happen in the country and that if they take a certain line of action or a certain decision, they will be seen as being manipulated by the Executive”.

Kwesi Pratt added, “It’s a bad comment, and it’s an insult to the bench. That is a serious allegation to say that justices are pandering to their paymasters, suggest a serious case of corruption and bribery.

“The Chief Justice should be calling for an investigation into the matter, bring the fact to show that Judges are being paid to take a certain decision. If the bench were to take such a position, people would end up in jail”.

“Where you’re going is very slippery. To accuse a Judge of Judges of pandering to their paymaster is a serious allegation which cannot be taken lightly, and yet people hold press conferences, make this statement and walk back home. It is unfair to the Judges”.
