Nana Adjei, a New Patriotic Party(NPP) communicator, has quizzed the John Mahama-led government on where their flagship 24-Hour Economy policy is.
The NPP man slammed the government over the implementation of its proposed 24-hour economy policy, highlighting that it has been all talk and no results.
He further quizzed why the 24-hour secretariat responsible for the policy operates within normal working hours despite promoting a 24-hour work system.
Speaking on Angel FM in Kumasi, Nana Adjei stated, “The 24-hour economy secretariat works from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are preaching a 24-hour economy, then show it by example”.
“It has been 16 months, and they have done nothing. They promised Ghanaians this, and they have still not delivered,” he said.
Nana Adjei added, “The promise was not about building markets. There is no evidence yet for what they promised”.
He further questioned some initiatives and structures that the governing National Democratic Congress promised Ghanaians.
“The women’s bank, they promised, where is it?” he asked.
“Even within the NDC party, people are suffering. There are no jobs for anyone,” he alleged.
“Nothing is going well at that party. The grassroots are bleeding and crying,” he concluded.
Also, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has told the John Mahama-led government not to reduce the 24-Hour Economy intellectual masturbation.
According to Kwsi Pratt, the 24-Hour Economy initiative risks being reduced to what he labels as ‘intellectual masturbation’ if authorities fail to act decisively.
He highlighted that the concept is not theoretical but requires immediate, practical implementation instead.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on May 6, 2026, Kwesi Pratt stated, “It should not, again, I’m going to use a word, please forgive me if it’s inappropriate… it should not be reduced to intellectual masturbation. It’s a practical thing”.
He highlighted that Ghana already has the ministries, departments and agencies capable of running round-the-clock operations, adding that the government must avoid delays caused by bureaucratic processes.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has officially signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law on Thursday, February 19.
The signing paves the way for the full implementation of the Mahama government’s flagship economic policy.
According to John Mahama, the 24-hour economy authority will now have to move from strategy to implementation following his signing of the bill into law.
However, Mark Badu Aboagye, the CEO of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI), has warned the John Mahama government that the 24-Hour Economy is turning into another policy slogan.
According to the GNCCI CEO, if the former Akufo-Addo governments had even implemented just 50% of their 1D1F, all of Ghana’s employment issues would have been solved.
He explained policies like the 24-hour economy are well thought through, but suffer from poor implementation.
