He asserted that the Health Minister, whenever he hears there is an issue in the hospital, takes the media there, comes back to ground zero, and the issues still persist.

Speaking on GHOne TV, Kwame Owusu Danso stated, “Akandoh is one of the worst ministers in Ghana, let’s face it. He is more of a knee-jerk minister.  Whenever he hears there is an issue in the hospital, he takes the media and runs there, walking like some Arnold Schwarzenegger into those hospitals.

He goes there and does what, then he comes back to ground zero, and the issues still persist. Let’s veer away from some of this sensationalism into an arena of seriousness; health care delivery is a serious business.”

In related news, Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have announced the commencement of their indefinite withdrawal of services following the suspension of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer.

According to KATH doctors, the decision to suspend the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer is unjustified and counterproductive.

In a formal notice addressed to the Chairman of the KATH Board, the doctors expressed concern that measures introduced by management to address patient overcrowding and ensure continued delivery of safe healthcare.

They argued that KATH, which serves as the principal tertiary referral facility for the middle and northern sectors of Ghana, is facing significant infrastructural challenges.

According to the statement, following deliberations, members unanimously condemned the suspension of the CEO, stating that the decision would not address the underlying challenges confronting KATH.

The association resolved to commence a total withdrawal of services by medical doctors at the hospital effective 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

They further disclosed that the strike action would continue until a number of demands are met, which include the review and reversal of the suspension of the Chief Executive Officer.

Additionally, the association demanded KATH Board establish clear policies to guide the management of situations at the hospital’s emergency capacity and also called on the Ministry of Health to provide clear timelines for the operationalisation of Sewua Hospital and Afari Military Hospital.

Their statement  follow, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, has directed the Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to suspend the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, for two weeks with immediate effect.

In a letter dated June 5, 2026, the Health Minister asserted that the decision follows the KATH CEO temporary suspension of emergency admissions at the facility.

The Health Minister highlighted that the action was taken in contravention of directives issued by President John Dramani Mahama.

He disclosed that the meeting involving the Ministry’s Chief Director, Technical Advisor and Legal Advisor concluded that the CEO’s actions were inconsistent with the President’s directives.
