Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), has announced that two more suspects linked to the shipment of 320 kilograms of meth concealed in sacks of charcoal have been arrested.
According to Brigadier General Mantey, the arrests were made on Thursday night following the earlier arrest of the alleged mastermind.
Speaking at the commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday, June 26, 2026, the NACOC Director-General stated, “Last week, our international partners intercepted a shipment bound for Australia. On Wednesday, we took the mastermind into custody here in Ghana, and just last night, two more suspects were picked up, and more will be picked up”.
“They thought they could operate in shadows; they were wrong. We are far from done. To every trafficker, syndicate, and to every network that thinks Ghana is open to business, we are coming for you”, he stated.
Brigadier General Mantey added, “Our antennae are very high, and we have the information. You may never know and as I always say, when you are picked, two people will free you. God and the court”.
The NACOC Director General had earlier announced that a lead shipper in the $208 million Australian methamphetamine (meth) scandal had been arrested by his outfit.
The NACOC Director General disclosed that the arrest follows a joint operation with the Bureau of National Investigations and other security agencies.
According to Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, the suspect is a Ghanaian national whose identity is being withheld for security reasons as investigations continue.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey stated, “Let me inform you that I’m aware that you all know of the Australian methamphetamine saga. Through the efforts of Narcotics in collaboration with the Bureau of National Investigation and other security agencies, I’m happy to announce that we have picked the lead shipper.
We did that over three nights. My officers slept out of their homes for three months and successfully picked the person who led that enterprise. This afternoon we’ll be picking more”.
He further disclosed that more people will be picked after the World Drug Day on Friday, as they seek to get to the bottom of this enterprise to ensure that Ghana will not be declared as a narco state.
Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey stated, “Whoever is involved, like I always say, it is only God and the court that can free you. We will get to the bottom of this enterprise and make sure that Ghana will not be declared as a narco state.
It is our determination that after World Drug Day on Friday, we are going to go out and hunt for those whose activity or whose business is to just sell drugs to destroy our young ones.
Like my deputy always says, this is just the grace period. If you know you are involved in it, I’m only advising you because we will come after you. And nobody — and I say nobody apart from God and the court can free you.”
