Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, an NPP member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, has sued the head pastor of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev Owusu Bempah, and the church.
The lawmaker is demanding GH¢10 million in damages over alleged defamatory statements made against him.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie filed his suit at the High Court alleging that Rev. Owusu Bempah used the church’s platform to make statements that denigrated the MP’s image, integrity and reputation.
The man of God had alleged that some leading figures of the NPP, including Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, are behind a supposed plot by the Nasara group of the party to attack him and his church members.
“You can write for me. Those organising that thing (the attack); Anthony Abayifa Karbo and Sammy Awuku are also among them. One of them is called Opare Ansah, and the other one, Ayew Afriyie. These are the people planning evil,” Rev Owusu Bempah said.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, in his writ of summons filed by his lawyers, stressed that the allegations made by the prophet are “defamatory” and intended to lower his “integrity, reputation, image and standing”.
“The Plaintiff says that accusing him of working with others to attack him and his church has lowered his standing and image in the estimation of right-thinking members of the Ghanaian society and in particular citizens of Effiduase — Asokore constituency,” the statement of claim said.
The MP therefore asked the court to rule that the remarks made by Rev Owusu Bempah were defamatory and had dented his reputation.
Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie also asked the court for damages of GH¢10 million and an order for the pastor to retract his comments.

“i. A declaration that the statement published by the Defendants on the 6th day of September, 2026, and brought to the attention of the Plaintiff… are defamatory in character, and have tendered to lower the integrity, reputation, image and standing of the Plaintiff in the estimation of high-thinking members of the society.
ii. Damages against the Defendants to a tune of Ten Million Ghana Cedis (GHC 10,000,000.00) for making such highly offensive and defamatory statements of, and concerning the Plaintiff on the platform of the 2nd Defendant on the 6th day
of September, 2026, and other social media platforms, which was brought to the attention of the Plaintiff.
iii. An order compelling the Defendants to retract, with apology, the defamatory statements made on the platform of the 2nd Defendant and other social media platforms.
iv. An order directed at the Defendants to render an unqualified apology to the Plaintiff on the same medium as the defamatory statements for a period of fourteen days (14 days).
V. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendants from further making or causing to be made such or similar words defamatory to the Plaintiff.
vi. Cost, including legal fees”.
