The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has come under more pressure as more details have emerged following the departure of Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.

Ghanaian sports journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo has detailed that Carlos Queiroz’s resignation as Black Stars coach was submitted in a letter citing unmet conditions rather than being sacked.

According to Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo, specific issues raised include daily training at the match stadium instead of a dedicated facility, arriving only two days before camp due to delayed tickets, and being housed at the African Regent hotel after Alisa was unavailable over unpaid prior bills.

He also disclosed that Carlos Queiroz complained about player selection interference, unknown players in camp, and insufficient authority over backroom staff like his desired doctor and team manager.

In a post on X, Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo wrote, “Some more details that have emerged since the Queiroz news:

Apparently, he actually quit. Submitted his resignation letter yesterday morning, and the FA scheduled a debrief for the evening where he laid down a plethora of reasons why he couldn’t continue, hence the part of his statement that said he didn’t stay because “the right conditions were not well established”.

For example, Queiroz said he didn’t understand the team was training every day in the stadium, the same venue of the game, and not at a different facility.

Complained about late arrival. He prefers to arrive in Ghana at least 10 days before the team gathers; he only got here 2 days before, because his ticket didn’t come early.

Also preferred that the team stay at Kempinski; they took them to African Regent. Alisa wasn’t an option because they owe them so much money from previous stays that they sacked the team from there.

He also complained about interference, telling close associates that there were some players in camp he knew nothing about. He hinted at this when he said team selection needs to be done with “honesty”.

He also wanted more control of the backroom staff, and he was only granted partial control. He actually wanted to bring his own doctor, nutritionist, team manager, etc. They only gave him his own nutritionist”.

In another post, Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo added, “Some more perspective on this:

It’s the Sports Ministry that funds the national team, including flights of coaching staff and players, accommodation, etc.

So it’s the govt that owes Alisa, not GFA. It’s the govt that issues flight tickets, not GFA.

The lack of training facility: We all know this issue lies with both. All proceeds from the World Cup have gone straight back to the govt, and they haven’t bothered to invest any of that into a training facility. GFA, on the other hand, have not been creative enough in trying to find ways to build one. So yeah, we will keep sleeping at hotels, training at the stadium and arriving at crucial matches late.

When we call for the head of the guys at the FA (rightly), let’s not forget the government’s own role in this mess”.

Some netizen reacting to the revelations stated, “Lets create a new federation to be in charge of our national teams at all levels and leave the GFA to do their private business. Eg GHANA FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAMS FEDERATION ( GFNTF)”.

One X user added, “After all these years and money pumping not a single hotel, resting place ..modern facilities to train on and with….imagine owing Kempinski so much…imagine !!”.

“Hmmmm so with all the World Cup money, the state and the GFA can’t build an ultra-modern facility to host our players”, a netizen added.

Additionally, another Ghanaian stated, “The only way out now is a compelling evidence of corruption against KURT and have EOCO move in on him, that guy won’t resign today nor tomorrow and he will go on with 3rd term and win”.
