Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called for all factions that emerged during the party’s internal elections to dissolve and unite as one camp ahead of the 2028 elections.
The NPP flagbearer stressed that the internal elections were over, with focus now shifting to rebuilding the party and preparing for the next national election.
According to Dr Bawumia, unity would be critical to the party’s efforts to regain power, urging all members and supporters to put their differences behind them and work together.
Speaking after the swearing-in of the newly elected national executives of the party on October 4, Dr Bawumia stated, “Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028”.
“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.
He further encouraged candidates who lost national executive elections not to see themselves as defeated.
Bawumia stated, “ You did not lose. The NPP won”.
“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.
“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said.
His comment follows, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on October 3, 2026, elected a new crop of national executives to oversee the party’s affairs following its National Delegates Conference.
Over 7,000 delegates from across the country participated in the conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
