EOCO’s letter, addressed to the firm at No. 9 Wawa Drive, North Dzorwulu, Accra, and marked confidential required to assist with ongoing investigations.

The letter stated, β€œThe Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) presents its compliments to you and respectfully requests information to assist with the ongoing investigations”.

Among the documents requested are the firm’s audited financial statements for the nine years, as well as evidence of tax payments made to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

According to the letter, EOCO specifically wants records covering corporate tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), applicable levies and withholding tax.

EOCO also requested details of all bank accounts operated by the law firm, together with their corresponding bank statements.

Additionally, the firm has been directed to provide copies of its operating permit and renewal documents issued by the relevant local assembly, as well as a list of its employees, if any.

EOCO, in its letter, invoked Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804), in making the request and has given the firm until Friday, November 6, 2026, to submit the documents.

The request comes amid a wider investigation into allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering, tax-related offences and other matters.

Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is a senior partner at the law firm, has also been implicated in the investigation. He previously surrendered to EOCO and was subsequently arrested in connection with the probe.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General has filed three criminal charges against Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.

The AG charged the Manhyia South MP with alleged financial misconduct in his handling of a legal case involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited.

The charges against Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah were filed at the High Court’s Specialised Jurisdiction Division in Accra on October 3, 2026,

The charges include conspiracy to commit a crime, intentionally causing financial loss to a public body and money laundering.

According to the Office of the Attorney-General charge sheet, Mr Awuah, while acting as a lawyer for SIC Life, conspired with the company’s then Managing Director in 2024 to intentionally dissipate GHΒ’9.85 million belonging to the company.

Also, the second count alleges that he intentionally caused SIC Life to suffer a financial loss of GHΒ’9.85 million in the course of a business transaction.

Additionally, a third count alleges that Mr Awuah transferred GHΒ’1 million to the then Managing Director of SIC Life, knowing that the money had been acquired through crime and to assist the recipient to evade the legal consequences of an offence.
