The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has admitted that some government appointees under President John Dramani Mahama have become disconnected from the party’s grassroots following their appointments.

According to Fifi Kwetey, some officials appear to have lost the close relationship they previously maintained with party supporters and grassroots members who worked to bring the NDC back to power.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana, Fifi Kwetey admitted that the demands of their government positions may have contributed to the situation, noting that some appointees are genuinely overwhelmed by their official responsibilities.

He, however, stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties with the grassroots, whose support and commitment played a significant role in the party’s return to government.

“Some NDC appointees have lost touch with grassroots,” Fifi Kwetey stated.

Fifi Kwetey’s remarks highlight concerns within the governing party about the relationship between its government appointees and grassroots members, particularly after the transition from opposition into government.

In related news, James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), cried out over the party’s neglect of the grassroots.

According to James Agbey, the party risks alienating its grassroots supporters unless government appointees address concerns about neglect and a lack of economic opportunities.

In a statement issued on October 16, James Agbey accused appointees of overlooking activists and cadres who worked to secure the party’s return to power.

He further stressed that the NDC party activists are struggling with unemployment and financial hardship, while appointees are prioritising relatives and close associates over those who supported the party in opposition.

James Agbey, in his statement, wrote, “The feeling out there at the base is that we have been used and dumped”.

“Everything seems to have changed after the elections. Appointees are now prioritising their families and close allies, some of whom were not even part of the struggle,” he alleged.

According to James Agbey, the NDC’s grassroots concerns required practical intervention rather than occasional handouts or promises of future support.

“All that these party activists are asking for is opportunities to be able to fend for themselves,” he stated.

He further warned that unresolved grievances could weaken loyalty and lead dissatisfied activists to turn against the government.

“Our support for the NDC must not be taken for granted,” he cautioned.

The NDC operative also called for urgent action, saying, “I call for urgent action, or we will have ourselves to blame come the electioneering season”.

Meanwhile, A Global Info Analytics poll has disclosed that 78 per cent of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates are concerned about the lack of job opportunities for grassroots.

The Global Info Analytics poll was conducted between 31st March and 9th April among nearly 10,400 delegates across all 16 regions.

The Poll detailed that 78% of delegates were concerned about the lack of job opportunities, with 13% are not concerned, and 9% are neither concerned nor unconcerned.

Serwaa Amihere shared a portion of the Global Info Analytics poll summary report on X, with the captioned it, “Growing anxiety among NDC grassroots as 78% of delegates concerned about lack of job opportunities- Global Info latest report”.
