Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of resorting to “takashi” in Parliament because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is “limping.”
According to Dr Ato Forson, although he disagrees with Afenyo-Markin’s approach, he acknowledges that the Minority Leader faces a difficult task due to the NPP’s lack of numbers in Parliament.
Ato Forson noted that the numerical disadvantage of the Minority explains the approach adopted by Afenyo-Markin in parliamentary proceedings.
Speaking on Ahenfie TV, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson stated, “Kwamena, we are all Central Region politicians; I have the privilege of being a minority leader representing my party in parliament. He has also had his chance to be the leader of his party and also minority leader. I have been there before.
Sometimes I look back and say I think we are privileged, the two of us, to lead our party in parliament”.
He added, “I disagree with him on a number of things that he does. I have always told him in the face. But I also recognised that he has a big task because his party is limping.
The NPP party is limping, and the party, looking at their record, they do not have any record, so they are using ‘takashi’ sayings or sort of things just to try to rebrand the party. So I can only understand him. he is using Takashi just to make sure his party get the necessary rebranding.
If you go to parliament, also their number have become Nkoko Nkitinkiti, a very small group of people, while we are very big. They don’t have the numbers also”.
Ato Forson further recounted that the NDC also faced a similar crisis and needed to rebrand, saying, “When the NDC went into opposition in 2017, we faced a similar crisis and needed to rebrand under Haruna Iddrisu; I was ranking member of the Finance Committee, and I had to put up a fight; it was tough, but gradually Ghanaians began to listen to us.
They will get there one day; I don’t know when”, he added.
In related news, the Minority Leader has warned fellow NPP members and Ghanaians that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is planning to rely heavily on misinformation and disinformation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the NDC’s strategy will be used to divert public attention from what he described as the government’s failure to deliver on its promises.
The minority leader urged Ghanaians, particularly NPP members and communicators, to remain vigilant as the country approaches the next elections, alleging that the government would use fabricated stories and distractions to shift the national conversation away from issues affecting citizens.
He further argued that the use of misinformation was not a new political tactic for the NDC, claiming that similar accusations and claims made by the party while in opposition had subsequently been contradicted by facts.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Afenyo-Markin wrote, “Going into the 2028 elections, one strategy the NDC Government is likely to use aggressively, in its desperation to hold on to power, is misinformation and disinformation.
Expect FAKE NEWS and manufactured distractions aimed at taking attention away from the important national issues on which the Government has failed to deliver.
This is not new; it is a political tool they have mastered.
Go back and examine the accusations, claims and stories they promoted while in opposition. Several have since been contradicted by the FACTS, exposed as misleading or proven entirely false.
Every Ghanaian must understand this strategy. We must stay vigilant, question what we are told and refuse to be distracted from the issues that affect us.
NPP members, officers and communicators especially carry an even greater responsibility. We must remain alert, disciplined and focused.
Check the facts, expose the lies quickly and never allow false propaganda to dictate our agenda.
Keep the focus on the Government’s broken promises and the everyday problems Ghanaians face.
Above all, stay on message by promoting Dr Bawumia’s vision for Ghana with clarity and conviction while working relentlessly towards victory in 2028.
