Solomon Owusu, the United Party (UP) Director of Communications, has said Alan Kyerematen is never returning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The UP man debunked claims that Alan Kyerematen is negotiating a return to the New Patriotic Party (NPP),
According to Solomon Owusu, Alan Kyerematen remains committed to the United Party (UP).
Solomon Owusu labelled reports alleging that Alan Kyerematen was seeking to rejoin the NPP as a vice-presidential candidate as scandalous.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Solomon Owusu stated, “Alan was only saying that I’m not going back to the NPP anytime, anywhere”.
Solomon Owusu also compared Alan’s response to someone being asked whether they would accept a job at a company, saying, “Somebody that really wanted to go back to the NPP right after the 2024 election would have gone back to the NPP and not led in the formation of a new political party called the United Party”.
His comments follow Alan Kyerematen’s public declaration that the only condition under which he would consider returning to the NPP is if he is offered the opportunity to lead the party as its flagbearer.
Meanwhile, Joseph Osei-Owusu, popularly known as Joe Wise, the former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Disciplinary Committee, has disclosed that the NPP is prepared to welcome former Trade Minister, Alan Kyerematen back.
According to Joe Wise, the NPP will be willing to welcome Alan Kyerematen back as a member, but not as flagbearer now.
He stressed that the party has already elected its flagbearer for the next general election, making it impossible for Alan Kyerematen to assume the position.
Joe Wise described Alan’s demand as unacceptable, adding that he initially considered the former minister’s comment a joke.
Speaking to the media at the Ashanti Region NPP sensitisation programme, Joe Wise stated, “The party has a channel of electing a flagbearer, and that procedure has been completed. So, if Bawumia finishes his term and Alan comes back, we will see whether he can go unopposed. But for now, I don’t think the party can accept him as flagbearer”.
Joseph Osei-Owusu explained that the NPP has established procedures governing the return of former members and urged Alan Kyerematen to follow the appropriate process.
He further stressed that the NPP needs more members to strengthen its ranks, noting that Mr Kyerematen had served the party in various capacities.
Joe wise added, “Alan Kyerematen has duly served the party in so many ways, so if he comes, we will accept him”.
