The Appointments Committee of Parliament is set to vet Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings will be vetted following their nomination by President John Dramani Mahama as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology, respectively.
The former Majority leader, who chairs the Business Committee, outlined the proposed timetable and procedure for the vetting during proceedings in Parliament on Monday, August 24.
“On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the Appointments Committee should consider the two ministerial nominees and one justice of the Supreme Court. And then on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Appointments Committee should also consider the nominations of two justices of the Supreme Court. So those are the schedules that the Business Committee is recommending for adoption by this House.”
The arrangement will see the two ministerial nominees and one Supreme Court nominee on Tuesday before continuing with the consideration of two additional Supreme Court nominees on Wednesday, August 26.
The development follows President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial reshuffle, while appointing Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation-designate.
Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the former Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, has been reassigned as the Minister for Defence as part of a ministerial reshuffle.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings and Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, if confirmed, will replace the late Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Mohammed and former Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
Ahmed Ibrahim has also been reassigned from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
Mahama Ayariga has been appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs-designate.
A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu made this known, disclosing that President Mahama, in accordance with Article 78(1), submitted the names of the following to Parliament, through the Speaker.
