Cocoa farmers are highly disappointed in the deception of NDC and Mahama – Ntim Fordjour

0

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Assin South member of parliament, has accused John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghana’s cocoa farmers.

According to Ntim Fordjour,  cocoa farmers are highly disappointed in the deception of the NDC and President John Mahama.

It will be recalled that the NDC in opposition promised cocoa farmers that when they win power, they would pay cocoa farmers GH₵6,000 per bag; however, the NDC government yesterday, August 4, announced GHS3,228.75 per bag.

In a post on social media, Rev Ntim Fordjour stated, “Cocoa farmers are highly disappointed in the deception of NDC and Prez Mahama’s government”.

He further described the NDC pledge as politically misleading, “They later promised to pay GH₵7,200 per bag in 2025”.

“Today, cocoa farmers are shortchanged with paltry GH₵3,228 per bag”, he added.

Also, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament, has called out the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Afenyo Markin called out the NDC government, stating that their promise of GHC6,000 per bag for cocoa farmers was a “betrayal” as they delivered only GHC3,228.

According to the minority leader, the NDC can spin it all they want, but they have betrayed cocoa farmers and have broken another promise.

Afenyo Markin is quoted by TV3 as saying, NDC promised cocoa farmers GHC6,000 per bag. Today, they delivered GHC3,228; barely half of what they pledged. Spin it all you want; it’s a betrayal, another broken promise”.

Another NPP MP, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has asked the National Democratic Congress government if the Producer Price of Cocoa for the 2025/2026 season is what the promised cocoa farmers in the 2024 elections.

Oppong Nkrumah noted that the NDC government always try to hide the truth, but they are going to work the numbers.

According to him, one must ask oneself how much Akufo-Addo increased cocoa prices during his tenure and compare that to what John Mahama and Ato Forson have done.

Speaking to the media, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah detailed, “We are just working the numbers, we have just come out of a meeting, and we have seen percentages, and they are using the dollar. You know, the NDC, what they do is they try to hide the truth, so you have to take your time and work the numbers.

The most important thing, and I encourage all of you and your newsrooms to do pick the cedi value of a bag of cocoa on the market today, compare it to the new price they have announced and see”.

He noted that “Somebody is telling me the change is about 100 cedis or something. Is that what they told the farmers? Is that what Ato Forson told the farmers is that what he told them. So please, if the change is 128 cedis, ask yourself the last time Akufo-Addo increased a bag of cocoa, how much did he increase it by, and when Ato Forson and President Mahama increased a bag of cocoa, how much did they increase it?

At the end of the day, that is the analysis. Go and ask the farmers on the ground, they will tell you”.

Transport fares will not and cannot be increased by 20% – COPEC

0

The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has rejected the transport fares hike announced by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC).

According to COPEC, the proposed fare hike is unjustifiable given the current economic pressures on ordinary Ghanaians.

Duncan Amoah, the Executive Secretary of COPEC, revealed that his checks from the transport unions and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) indicate no decision has been made to increase fares by 20 per cent on Friday, August 8.

In a press release signed by Duncan Amoah on Tuesday, August 5, stated, “Our checks with the various transport unions, including the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) and other driver unions, indicate no such decision has been taken. It is also difficult to comprehend what matrices inform any such drastic upward reviews of public transport fares, as that affects largely the poor and already suffering masses”

COPEC statement added, “For the avoidance of doubt, fuel prices which used to sell for around Ghc15/litre as of January 2025, when it declined to around ghcll and Ghc12/litre saw a section of drivers who were magnanimous in reducing transport fares by some 15% though a cross section of other driver Unions did not reduce their fares and had to be literally chased by the local assemblies.

On the balance of odds or numbers, the pricing levels as of today are still not anywhere near the January prices from which transport fare discussions could be had, and such is our surprise at the attempts by a section of transport operators to justify a further increase in fares as of this time”, the statement added.

COPEC argued that the reasons stated by the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council cannot be used as a basis for punishing the suffering Ghanaian

The statement added, “The above argument, though true, cannot and should not be the basis for punishing the suffering Ghanaian masses as the overall effect of the new One Ghana levy is still not sufficient to wipe out the sustained reductions recorded at the pumps over the past couple of months”.

“It is imperative to note that, an intention which has not yet been enforced cannot and should not form the basis of any increases in transport fares as the effects will not only be felt by the already suffering masses but will further diffuse genuine outcry by the people for the cost of goods and services to be reduced across all sectors to bring some relief”.

COPEC statement follows the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council announcement that transport fares will go up by 20% effective Friday, August 8, 2025.

According to the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council, the directive is in collaboration with transport unions.

In a statement signed by Emmanuel Ohene-Yeboah, General Secretary, and Alhaji Tanko, Acting National Chairman of the Council revealed that the price increase is due to three key developments.

The transport operators stated that despite the implementation of a 15% fare reduction on May 21, 2025, the price of spare parts, goods, and services has not experienced a corresponding reduction.

The introduction of a GH¢1.00 per litre fuel levy has led to an estimated 8% increase in fuel prices.

Also, the rising cost of maintenance costs due to deteriorating road conditions across the country.

The 20 per cent increase will affect taxis, intra-city trotro services, long-distance intercity transport, and haulage.

The statement added that, “All commercial transport operators and companies are to comply with the new fares and visibly post them at their loading terminals”.

Transport operators have also been instructed to comply with the new fares.

They also urged commuters, transport operators to cooperate for the smooth implementation of the revised fares.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other commercial transport operators announced a drop in transport by 15 per cent on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

The 15 per cent adjustment reflects the sustained appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, contributing to a significant drop in fuel prices.

Nonetheless, on the ground, the 15 per cent drop was marked by non-compliance, exploitation, and growing dissatisfaction among road commuters, specifically traders, public servants and students.

“Spin it all you want, it’s a betrayal” – Afenyo-Markin on NDC new cocoa price

Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the minority leader in parliament, has called out the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC).

At the end of the day, that is the analysis. Go and ask the farmers on the ground, they will tell you”.

Their comments come on the heels of Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister, announcing that the government has approved the increase in the producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne.

The new prices are set to take effect from Thursday, 7th August 2025.

Ato Forson, in a post, wrote, “The Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) on Cocoa, under my Chairmanship, met and agreed on the Producer Price of Cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, which opens on Thursday, 7th August 2025.

Subsequent to this meeting, Government is pleased to announce an increase in the producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne!”.

The finance minister noted that the Government has, by this decision, increased the producer price significantly by 62.58% in US$ terms.

He added, “This increase in the producer price represents 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value of $7,200 per tonne, and aligns with President Mahama’s promise to pay cocoa farmers 70% of the FOB price.

It is significant to note that for the 2024/25 cocoa season, the previous NPP administration set an FOB value of US$4,850 per tonne of cocoa, and the producer price at US$3,100, representing 63.9% of FOB, even though the world market price at the time was much better”.

His statement on X added that the Gross FOB value was arrived at using outstanding cocoa contracts of about 100,000 tonnes sold at US$2,600 per tonne in the 2023/2024 crop season, and an average forecast for the 2025/2026 crop season.

Ato Forson asserted that an average exchange rate of GHS10.25 to the US Dollar for the 2025/2026 crop season, revealing that “the Government is pleased to announce an increase in the producer price of cocoa from GHS49,600 per tonne to GHS51,660 per tonne”.

“This further translates to an amount of GHS3,228.75 per bag of 64-kilogram gross weight of cocoa”, he added.

“I will beat Asiedu Nketia hands down if NDC elects him as flagbearer” – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a former Assin Central lawmaker and NPP presidential aspirant hopeful, has boldly declared he will beat the NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia if elected NDC flagbearer.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he will beat Asiedu Nketia hands down, as he has something to show.

He boldly declared that he stands tall among all presidential candidate hopefuls on both the NDC and the NPP.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Pan African Television, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “Why not? It is very easy, I will beat him hands down, I have something to show for when it comes to industries, the problems, the challenges of this country, first thing is unemployment, and I have examples to give, that is what Ghanaians want to hear, not your political party.

This time, the politics is going to be about personalities, the individuals and their capabilities, their achievements, and I stand tall among all candidates, both NDC and NPP”.

Kennedy Agyapong, in the same interview, stated the NPP has a fighting chance in the 2028 elections if the party chooses him as the flagbearer.

According to him, he is the NPP’s best bet to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He boldly emphasised that he is going to beat the NDC hands down if voted as the NPP presidential candidate.

The former lawmaker added stated, “The party has a fighting chance, but it depends on the candidate they choose. If they choose Kennedy Agyapong, they have a fighting chance; I will beat NDC hands down”.

He further gave an insight into his plans for Ghana, “Can you imagine the tourism industry? What are we going to do? Right in the middle of the sea in Dubai, they’ve created an island”.

The NPP flagbearer hopeful added, “Ghana is the centre of the world, and we don’t have a hotel with the name Centre of the World to attract tourists. We are going to build a hotel in the sea. It is possible. I’ve seen it work elsewhere, and therefore it is going to work”.

Mr Agyapong also urged Ghanaians to give him eight years in power, and he will break Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s records.

He revealed that Dr Kwame Nkrumah is his role model, and he has seen what Ghana’s first president has achieved and wants to beat those records.

He stated, “You see, I have role models and these role models are pragmatists. When you look at the infrastructural framework of this country, nearly 60% of them were done by President Kwame Nkrumah in just 9 years of his rule.

That is from 1957 to 1966, and up to now, we have not been able to match what he did. I go around the country and I see the things he achieved, so he is my role model. If there’s a president whose record I want to beat, it’s Dr Kwame Nkrumah”.

“When you give me 8 years, I will beat his record,” the politician added.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong previously contested in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries.

Mr Agyapong finished second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47% emerging the winner.

Despite his shortcomings, Kennedy Agyapong’s strong performance demonstrated considerable support within the party.

Kennedy Agyapong will have to tussle with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong others, to stand a chance of contesting in the 2028 elections on the ticket of the NPP.

Transport fares to go up by 20% from August 8

The Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council have announced that transport fares will go up by 20% effective Friday, August 8, 2025.

This comes following successful negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport.

The 15 per cent adjustment reflects the sustained appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, contributing to a significant drop in fuel prices.

Nevertheless, the truth on the ground tells a different narrative, one that is marked by non-compliance, exploitation, and growing dissatisfaction among road commuters, specifically traders, public servants and students.

In related news, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region, lamented on the floor of parliament about transport fares.

He shockingly blamed his absence on pre-sitting parliamentary meetings on transport fare.

According to Jerry Ahmed Shaib, since the John Mahama-led government came into office, this has been very difficult for him to get money, and he finds it difficult to afford transport fare.

Bernard Ahiafor, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, on July 30, 2028, questioned the Member of Parliament why he keeps missing parliament pre-sitting meetings.

Bernard Ahiafor stated, “Jerry, these days you have not been attending pre-sittings”.

The Weija Gbawe MP, in his response, stated, “Speaker, sometimes it’s a matter of lorry fare. Since this government came in, it’s been very difficult for me to even get money to have lorry fare. So that will be the situation”.

The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament also stated, “This one Hon Jerry Ahmed, you have a very legitimate point, legitimate point in the sense that deductions have started for the car loan, and yet the Honourable Member is still complaining about transport”.

Bernard Ahiafor further questioned the deputy Majority leader if he had something to say in response to the car loan for the members of parliament.

The Deputy Majority Leader stated, “ You are absolutely right, the deduction has already started and the money, I believe, is also in”.

Mahama’s silence fueling third-term calls – Kwesi Pratt

0

Kwesi Pratt Jr, a veteran journalist and managing editor of the Insight Newspaper, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to break his silence on calls from some sections of Ghanaians calling on him to run for a third term.

According to Kwesi Pratt Jr, he has known President Mahama for a very long time and knows he is not power-hungry, but his silence only encourages calls for a third term.

Kwesi Pratt emphasised that it is difficult to escape the cacophony of calls for the amendment of the 1992 Constitution to make it possible for President John Dramani Mahama to contest elections for a third term.

He revealed he is deeply worried by this development, as lessons from history only show that it leads to total disaster for everybody.

In a post on X, Kwesi Pratt wrote, “ It is difficult to escape the cacophony of calls for the amendment of the 1992 #Constitution to make it possible for President John Dramani Mahama (@JDMahama) to contest elections for a third term.

I am deeply worried by this development because I am keenly aware of the lessons of history which teach that this apparent orchestration can only lead to total disaster for everybody”.

He recounted, “General Kutu #Acheampong’s government was undoubtedly one of the best since independence.

It was fully committed to the national liberation struggle throughout Africa. It made Ghana self-sufficient in food production in its first few years. It built estate houses for workers everywhere. It generally improved the national infrastructure and was very popular until the dying years of the 1970s.

Acheampong’s popularity took a nose-dive when he sought to introduce the Union Government idea, and the general perception was that he wanted to extend his stay in power indefinitely”.

Kwesi Pratt added that the massive resistance and crucial state resources were diverted from production and put into useless charm projects, with the economy also suffering.

He added, “Acheampong became very unpopular and in the end, he and some of his associates paid a very high price with their lives.

We should not forget that #history has a way of repeating itself”.

The veteran Journalist also emphasised that it is extremely foolish for people to suggest that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one person can be a good President.

He added, “The suggestion that out of 35 million citizens of Ghana, only one person can be a good President is extremely foolish and must not be encouraged.

I have known President #Mahama for a very long time, and I am convinced that he is not power-hungry, but his silence on this issue only encourages those who seek to misuse his popularity and apparent good work”.

Mr Pratt further encouraged Mahama to speak out against the agitation from very strange sources that want to make him the King of Ghana.

Similarly, Kwesi Pratt, speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, warned there will be strong resistance if President John Mahama attempts to run for a third term.

He, however, dismissed the allegation, stating that there is no suggestion that Mahama is pursuing such a plan.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Kwesi Pratt stated, “As I sit here, it is not only about President John Dramani Mahama. Any president who attempts to amend the Constitution to extend their tenure beyond two terms will face strong opposition. It is not right, so if Mahama ever attempts a third term, we will fight him squarely”.

“However, there is no indication that a constitutional review is being carried out for this purpose. What kind of issue is this? When it comes to constitutional amendments, Nana Addo also formed a committee to review the constitution. Does that mean he wanted a third term? Prof Mills did the same; does it mean he also sought a third term?”, he added.

It will be recalled that NPP’s Justin Frimpong Kodua started the third term talks when he accused the NDC and John Mahama of plotting to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Torkornoo to enable President John Dramani Mahama to contest for a third presidential term.

He claimed that the argument revolves around Article 66(2) of the Constitution.

Justin Frimpong Kodua noted that some individuals are allegedly planning to interpret Article 66(2) of the Constitution in a way that implies the two-term limit applies only to two successive terms.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has dismissed Mahama’s third-term allegation claims made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

Felix Kwakye Ofosu boldly stated that President Mahama is not interested in any third term.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu is quoted by UTV to have said, “President John Mahama has no intention of running for a third term”.

Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, Eric Opoku, and Asiedu Nketia eyeing NDC flagbearership

0

The unofficial report gathered suggests, Haruna Iddrisu, Julius Debrah, Eric Opoku, and Johnson Asiedu Nketia are rumoured to be eyeing the NDC 2028 flagbearership.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 elections is expected to field a new candidate as current President John Dramani Mahama is serving his constitutionally mandated second term in office.

President John Mahama, with just months in his second term in office, has to deal with speculations of surrounding his successor.

Haruna Iddrisu, in December 2024, finally responded to the growing calls for him to contest the NDC flagbearer position after John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Friday, December 13, 2024, Iddrisu expressed his interest in pursuing the presidency, despite acknowledging the challenges that come with such a pursuit.

He stated, “My eye is on the ball, but I don’t know about tomorrow.”

Haruna Iddrisu has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tamale South Constituency since 2005.

Also, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), also broke his silence on rumoured presidential ambition.

According to Asiedu Nketia, no serious politician rules out any position.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Asideu Nketia stated, “No serious politician rules out any position. It’s known that it is ambition that drives politics.

And if you rush to rule things out, you get to a point where you’ll be at a corner where you regret having ruled out certain positions”.

However, unconfirmed reports also suggest, Eric Opoku, the current Minister of Food and Agriculture, is being pushed by some bigwigs within the NDC.

According to sources, Eric Opoku is being pushed forward as John Mahama’s heir, silently, not to create unnecessary attention for the minister.

It has also been alleged that a strong team has been mobilised to advocate for Eric Opoku.

Eric Opoku joins a tall list of NDC bigwigs, including National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.

Also, the Global InfoAnalytics survey on the NDC flagbearer race indicates Haruna Iddrisu, the education minister, has become the National Democratic Congress (NDC )’s most preferred candidate to lead the country for the 2028 general elections.

The recent poll shows Haruna Iddrisu is slightly ahead of the NDC Chairman, Asiedu Nketia.

Haruna Iddrisu in the poll garnered a total of 27 per cent, followed by Asiedu Nketia pulling 26 per cent.

The finance minister, Ato Forson, pulled 22 per cent, with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah securing  11 per cent.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa also garnered 8 per cent, with the member of parliament for Korle Klottey, Zanetor Rawlings, polling 4 per cent.

Mussa Dankwah, in his post on X, stated, “Haruna and General knock horns in what may be an interesting race for the NDC, at least from General’s voters’ perspective”.

However, the earlier poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics some months ago had Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang at the top with 33%, Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, managed to poll 24% of total votes cast, while Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, followed with 16%.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, managed 13% of votes each.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have shared their opinion on who should be the next NDC flagbearers. “This nonsense must stop. We are thinking about fixing and resetting Ghana, and you guys are only thinking about the next election. This is why we are backwards because our media space is full of dumb headed people”.

One netizen added, “Eric Opoku will not dare contest if General is in the race. Haruna, for now, is out because we aren’t going to the north next time around. Julius and General are in the race. Julius may be loved and supported by the presidency, but General has the grassroots. General will be the winner”.

Additionally, a netizen added, “HARUNA any day every day. His only competitor is Asiedu Nketiah, whom I fear in this race. That guy understands politics more than anyone in this country”

Thomas Partey granted bail in rape case

0

Thomas Partey, a Ghanaian footballer, has been granted bail after appearing in court on rape charges.

Thomas Partey was charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service.

“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives.

“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault.”

Reports suggests the offences are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022.

Partey was granted bail after appearing in Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, August 5, 2025, on the rape charges.

Also, an alleged victim, speaking to British media outlet The Athletic, stated, “I would frequently get messages from fans. They’d send me pictures of him playing or scoring.

I would get death threats, rape threats, people saying they’d set me on fire. If he scored, for example, the abuse would be worse,” she stated.

Furthermore, Jenny Wiltshire, one of the UK’s most respected criminal defence solicitors, is representing Thomas Partey in his rape trial, which began today, August 5 2025.

Jenny Wiltshire, earlier in a statement, revealed Partey denied all the charges levelled against him.

She stated, “Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him. He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. He now welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name”.

The lawyer further added that Thomas will not be making any further public comments while the legal process is ongoing.

Jaswant Narwal, Chief Crown Prosecutor, confirmed the charges, saying, “Our prosecutors have worked closely with officers in the Metropolitan Police to review the evidence and advise on the appropriate charges”.

“Criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is absolutely vital that there is no reporting, commentary, or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” Narwal warned.

In addition, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a renowned sports journalist, has stated that Partey’s rape charges timing is a calculated attempt to destroy his career.

According to him, the way the charges surfaced, he believes the person influenced Arsenal’s decision not to extend Partey’s contract.

He noted that the alleged incident happened in 2022 but was kept under wraps until he was out of the club.

The sports journalist added that the charges would negatively impact Partey’s football career, as clubs will hesitate to sign him until the case is resolved.

Meanwhile, Thomas Partey, 32, officially left Arsenal on July 1, 2025, after his contract expired after five years at the Emirates following a £45 million move from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in September 2020.

He is now expected to join the Spanish La Liga side Villarreal in this transfer window as a free agent.

“In two weeks, can you show the property?” – Adom-Otchere challenges Martin Kpebu

0

Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has challenged private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu to provide evidence of the landed properties he owns in Accra.

It will be recalled that Martin Kpebu cast doubt on Adom-Otchere’s declarations, claiming he did not have a landed property to meet the OSP bail conditions when he was detained.

According to Martin Kpebu, sources have informed him that the broadcaster owns several properties in Accra.

Speaking on Joy FM on Friday, August 1, 2025, Martin Kepbu stated, “Paul telling OSP that he has no property is false… Not one, not two. There are people who are buzzing my phone, telling me they will take me to show the properties that Paul paid them money to build”.

However, Paul Adom-Otchere on Channel One TV challenged Lawyer Kpebu to provide evidence to substantiate his claims.

According to the broadcaster, he feels disappointed in Martin Kpebu, whom he described as a big lawyer.

Speaking on Channel One TV, Adom-Otchere lamented, “The issue of no landed property has been discussed in a way that I feel disappointed by a big lawyer who said he knows that I have four properties in Accra and that he is going to show them. He said it on a media platform, and I sent him a text, Please, in two weeks, can you show the property?”

He said I have landed properties. I know Paul Adom-Otchere has given money to somebody, some of these wild allegations they throw about. I keep asking if a person lives in a house for 20 years and says, I don’t have landed property, why is that awkward? The house address is available, the Lands Commission is available, everyone can check,” he added.

Adom Otchere added, “I even look at it as a bit chauvinistic… If a man and a woman live together and have a house, it is believed that it belongs to the man. But people act differently”.

“I have no landed property in my name, and that is easily verifiable,” he reaffirmed.

Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, justified the bail conditions set for Paul Adom-Otchere.

He revealed that the landed bail condition was set to encourage the suspect to show up and not run.

Kissi Agyebeng added that if the suspect claims he does not have any landed property, any property found in his name can be confiscated by the State.

Speaking during a meeting,  Kissi Agyebeng stated, “The OSP has a suspect, and you say you do not have any landed property, which means you can bail yourself out if you do not have any landed property.

We will fix a value on it, and bring what you have, and it is also to encourage you not to run because if you run away, that property will be confiscated. So, it is to encourage you to show up”.

He added, “If you do not do that and you say, you do not have anything, you have placed yourself in a state where anything the State finds in your name is confiscated”.

Backgroud

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) ordered Paul Adom-Otchere to present himself for questioning in a revenue assurance audit deal.

Adom-Octhere was later detained after he failed to meet the OSP bail conditions of providing two landed properties.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) later announced that they have accepted the revised bail conditions proposed by Paul Adom Otchere’s legal team.

Adom-Otchere later returned home to his family after Jospong Group of Companies acted as surety, meeting the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revised bail conditions.

“I can never call for bloodshed, I always preach peace” – Ntim Fordjour replies KSM

0

Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, has replied to Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), the host of KSM Show, after he called him out over his comments on the upcoming by-election in Akwatia.

According to Ntim Fordjour, he can never call for bloodshed as he always preaches peace.

Appearing on the KSM Show aired on August 2, 2025, Ntim Fordjour clarified his remarks, “When I heard that you had made some comments, I said, ‘I’m sure for the benefit of you not given the full video, that is why you’d draw that conclusion because I know you mean no malice… You would know that I was preaching against bloodshed”.

“I said we don’t want bloodshed but we have to do what will prevent that bloodshed. If we leave things the way they’ve been happening from the past, we have had many elections that have been characterised by violence. For how long must that continue? How long must Ayawaso Wuogon continue?”

He added, “How long should Talensi continue, Techiman continue, and many other places and many instances when we cite these instances? We should not cite them to equalise as politicians, not at all. We should cite them to draw lessons from them, to learn from them, but put in action today that will prevent the next Ablekuma North incident from happening”.

Ablekuma North had only 19 polling stations, and so if the kind of violence we saw there was condoned, and we don’t take action (sic). It wouldn’t take a day or two to arrest those people and prosecute them to send a signal that if any politician comes to hire you for such a violent enterprise, you will be arrested and go to jail.

Ntm Fordjour asserted that he was clearly misquoted as some person twisted what he said.

“And so, everybody will stay home and allow elections to go on peacefully, so that’s the point I raised that let us leave this in the back; we don’t want bloodshed. We are sitting on a time bomb of political vigilantism, so they clearly misquoted me. They put a propaganda spin on it; some took the video, twisted it, but I can never call for bloodshed. I always preach peace.”

Rev Ntim Fordjour’s earlier remarks suggested, if John Mahama continue his inaction in bringing the perpetrators to book, there will be bloodshed in Akwatia and future elections.

Speaking in an interview, Ntim Fordjour stated, “It’s not a strong signal, but if the president wants to continue his inaction in bringing the perpetrators to book, arresting them and prosecuting them, there’s going to be bloodshed in Akwatia and future elections. We don’t want bloodshed in future elections. Democracy cannot be traded for violence.

We don’t want a time where you put ballot boxes at polling stations and nobody will come out to vote because they fear being killed by political vigilantes”.

He added, “That is what the NDC is doing. It’s a dangerous trend, a national security threat that must be rooted out, and the president must show commitment. So far, he has demonstrated he doesn’t care”

“The minister has given his word that those engaged in the acts are going to be prosecuted. We heard yesterday that two people have been arrested.

Two people? Out of how many? Over a hundred government-sponsored thugs were sent to exert mayhem, and you arrest two, and then we should clap for you? It’s shameful and disappointing”, he fumed.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) has officially scheduled Tuesday, September 2, 2025, for the by-election in the Akwatia Constituency.

Reconsider proposal to construct a six-lane expressway between Accra-Kumasi – NPP MP petitions Mahama

0

Francis Asenso-Boakye, the former Minister of Roads and Highways, has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the proposal to construct a six-lane expressway between Accra and Kumasi.

Asenso-Boakye detailed that the new six-lane expressway will derail progress made on the ongoing dualisation of the corridor.

According to Asenso-Boakye, over 100 kilometres of the 240-kilometre stretch between Accra and Kumasi have already been dualised.

He noted that only 94 kilometres remain to be completed, and abandoning it will not only be unwise but also unconstitutional.

Mr Asenso-Boakye, in a letter addressed to the President, wrote, “Only 94 kilometres remain to be completed. To abandon this progress now would not only be unwise but also unconstitutional.”

He added, “There is no final design, cost estimate, or secured funding. Yet Your Excellency has stated publicly that construction will begin next year and be completed before your term ends — a timeline of less than three years. With my expertise and experience, I can say, without any fear of contradiction, that this timeline is not feasible.”

“Variations and cost adjustments are common in major infrastructure works. They can be addressed within existing legal and contractual frameworks without throwing away the entire project.”

Asenso-Boakye, in his petition, added, “This is not about partisanship. It is about continuity, value for money, and responsible governance. I respectfully urge you to review the current course and consolidate, rather than disrupt, the gains we have made.”

Asenso-Boakye, speaking on the floor of parliament on Thursday, July 31, made a similar appeal. He stated, “Mr Speaker, what stops the government from completing these bypasses that will reduce the travel time from Accra to Kumasi by three hours?

Now the minister is saying that they are going to construct a six-lane expressway, totally different from the existing intervention. First of all, the president, with the greatest of respect he was in Kumasi a couple of weeks ago”.

Asenso-Boakye furiously added, “Will you listen to me? Listen to sense, wisdom. Listen to wisdom. Listen to words of wisdom and stop the heckling”.

Asenso Boakye was later cautioned by the Speaker of Parliament over his “listen to sense”. The Speaker ordered Asenso-Boakye to retract those comments; he later clarified his remarks before withdrawing the comment.

“What I mean is that they should listen to words of wisdom… Mr. Speaker, I am being distracted; they are not allowing me to flow because they know I am making a good point.

Mr Speaker, I withdraw ‘listening to sense.’ Thank you very much,” the former roads minister stated.

However, Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, reacted by cooking Asenso Boakye over the NPP’s stalled road projects.

Hon Agbodza expressed frustration with the minority of their constant criticism and opposition to the initiative, despite the government’s renewed commitment and significant efforts to complete stalled projects started under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia administration.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Governs Kwame Agbodza stated, “What is your problem? We said we are completing and expanding roads, what is wrong with that? Let’s come to Accra. I agree that the exit and entry points are very bad.

The Ofankor road, as of the time you were leaving office, the contractor had raised a certificate of about $77 million you didn’t pay him you left. Now people are doing a demonstration just this week, we paid that contractor about GHC300 million so that he can continue the work”.

He added, Why are you not recommending us for that? We are saying that since we do not have a dedicated fund, we are putting that project as an additional burden on the big push, and you don’t like it?

Go Kasoa Winneba, of course, the money has run out, the worst that will happen is that the contractor will leave the site. President Mahama does not want any of those projects to be abandoned. He said, carry it on additionally, Big Push Project, you don’t like that? What are you talking about here?”

The road minister further clarified that the Big Push project is not only about a road project, but also a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity.

Kwame Agbodza further emphasised that the John Mahama-led NDC government is not playing politics with road projects.

Is this the cocoa price you promised farmers? – Oppong Nkrumah asks NDC

0

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the NPP Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has asked the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government if the Producer Price of Cocoa for the 2025/2026 season is what they promised cocoa farmers in the 2024 elections.

Oppong Nkrumah noted that the NDC government always try to hide the truth, but they are going to work the numbers.

According to him, one must ask oneself how much Akufo-Addo increased cocoa prices during his tenure and compare that to what John Mahama and Ato Forson have done.

It will be recalled that the NDC in opposition promised cocoa farmers that when they win power, they would pay cocoa farmers GH₵6,000 per bag; however, the NDC government yesterday, August 4, announced GHS3,228.75 per bag.

Go and ask the farmers on the ground they will tell you”.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah’s comment comes following Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister, announcing that the government has approved the increase in the producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne.

Dr Randy Abbey, the Ghana Cocoa Board CEO had earlier revealed some months ago announced that a new cocoa producer price will be revealed in August 2025, surpassing the Ivory Coast’s price.

CEO Dr Randy Abbey stated, “President John Mahama, the desire he has is that farmers must have profits, but we must also let you know the truth.

What I can tell you is that the president this year season will be open in August 2025, 2026, and we are going to give a new producer price, and the new producer price will be more than that of the Ivory Coast”, he added.

However, Dr Randy Abbey, in a recent interview, before the new prices, noted that the recent appreciation of the cedi diminished the rise of the cocoa price per ton, which is set to rise substantially.

“What we are seeing now is a situation where global prices are high, and that would normally translate into higher incomes for our farmers. But with the cedi appreciating sharply, the gains could be reduced when translated into Ghana cedi”, he added.

“Nobody maltreated me” – Adom-Otchere breaks silence on OSP detention

0

Paul Adom-Otchere, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has broken his silence after he was detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to Paul Adom-Otchere, he was not maltreated by anyone, as it was a normal place where the OSP detain Ghanaians.

He revealed that he was in a room with other people, with the facility having basic conditions.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV, August 4,  Paul Adom-Otchere detailed, “It’s a normal place they detain every Ghanaian. You are detained with people who are also detained. Nobody maltreated anyone. That is for sure. It’s a state-owned”

“Yes, yes, you will be in a room with other people. It depends on the numbers they have, usually about 25 people, not in the same room. I was in a room with other people.”

He added that the detainees were given basic necessities.

“They give you a mattress, yes, for now, it’s a double mattress, I think, because of the floor, and they give you a blanket; they treat you well. They provide clothes. I wasn’t due for a change of clothes yet because it was overnight. And by mid-day, they said we should get ready,” he explained.

Paul Adom-Octhere also added that access to the outside world was not allowed.

“You can’t contact anyone,” he revealed.

Paul Adom-Otchere further clarified that his supporters were protesting bail terms, not defending wrongdoing.

He added, “All those people whom I said thank you to, who’d expressed concern, I have seen some spin on social media. They were not expressing the concern that Paul Adom-Otchere has done something wrong, and he is above the law, and you cannot touch.

“No! They were expressing concern that the bail conditions that the OSP gave were too harsh and unreasonable, and actually unknown to the jurisprudence,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Sammy Darko Appiah, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has revealed that Paul Adom-Otchere is a key suspect in the OSP’s ongoing investigation into the GACL revenue.

According to Sammy Darko, the OSP has come across evidence that directly points to certain actions of Adom-Otchere as a board chairman that fall in line with the offences.

However, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the managing director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has ended the scandalous revenue assurance contract with Evatex Logistics.

The information gathered suggests Evatex Logistics Limited, a company affiliated with SML, has been served with a termination letter on 28th July 2025.

Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare also revealed that no payments have been made to date to Evatex Logistics.

Evatex Logistics Ltd was contracted by GACL to provide revenue assurance services in regard to cargo at Kotoka International Airport.

Background

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) ordered Paul Adom-Otchere to present himself for questioning in a revenue assurance audit deal.

Adom-Octhere was later detained after he failed to meet the OSP bail conditions of providing two landed properties.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) later announced that they have accepted the revised bail conditions proposed by Paul Adom Otchere’s legal team.

According to the OSP statement on X, the revised bail conditions meet the objectives of the original bail conditions.

Adom-Otchere later returned home to his family after Jospong Group of Companies acted as surety, meeting the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) revised bail conditions.

“Shame on you” – KSM slams Rev Ntim Fordjour

0

Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), the host of KSM Show, has fired shots at Rev John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, over his remarks inciting violence in the Akwatia by-election.

According to Ntim Fordjour, if John Mahama continue his inaction in bringing the perpetrators to book, there will be bloodshed in Akwatia and future elections.

Kwaku Sintim-Misa, reacting to Rev Ntim Fordjour’s comments, called him an ultimate charlatan.

KSM quizzed how an ordained man of God could be saying those things.

Speaking on an edition of his show, KSM fumed, “… I want to start with the ultimate charlatan. I think his name is Reverend Fordjour. Reverend Fordjour, shame on you. I’m looking at you eyeball to eyeball. Let me say that you don’t deserve the title reverend. Shame on you! Why am I saying all of this? How can a reverend, supposedly someone who has been ordained as a man of God, ordained to preach the love of Christ, tell us such things? You say, ‘I am a pastor, I’m born again, I preach the love of Christ.’

How in the world can somebody who is an ordained reverend, Rev Fordjour, open your mouth and say something like ‘If Mahama doesn’t address the issue at Ablekuma North, there is going to be bloodshed in Akwatia?” he quizzed.

He added, “… I’m sure you’ll be at Akwatia with your wife and your children. You’re going to rally all of them and take them to Akwatia and let them join whatever gangs that you plan to send to Akwatia. Tell your wife and children we are going to have bloodshed today. It’s very sad and painful when intelligent people, plenty of whom are NPP, are trying to (sic) spell doom ahead of the by-election.

“When do we move past this partisan nonsense, when do we build our nation. Other people are focused, and developing their countries. So, let’s build a nation, move beyond this partisan crap. When people are thinking about progressive things, then a reverend opens his damned mouth and talks about bloodshed in Akwatia if the president doesn’t do something”.

KSM further conveyed his shock, asking if the Ntim Fordjour meant those remarks, demanding that he renounce his title as a reverend, “Are you serious? If you’re serious, then I want you to have a press conference and renounce that reverend title. Renounce it, throw it away.

All you pastors out there who are calling yourselves reverends and whatever titles and standing at the forefront of Ghanaians telling us nonsense; trust me, I’ll come after you,” he added.

CID impounds 43 high-value luxury vehicles stolen from across Europe

0

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has announced they have impounded 43 high-value luxury vehicles stolen from across Europe.

According to COP Lyida Donkor, the high-value luxury vehicles were stolen from the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Canada, the USA, Germany, Italy, and France.

The CID Director General revealed that a collaboration between the CID, Customs and Interpol, DIGIPOL, and the FBI led to the recovery of about 43 vehicles.

Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, August 4, 2025, COP Lydia Donkor detailed, “These 43 vehicles are mainly high-value luxury vehicles such as Rolls-Royce, Audi Q8, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, etc., stolen from countries such as the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Canada, USA, Germany, Italy, and France”

“Out of the 43 vehicles that have been impounded, investigations have been completed and the courts have ordered that 18 of them should be repatriated to the countries of origin.

“Eight have already been repatriated, while ten are pending. Repatriation cases on the remaining 25 are still pending in court,” she said.

She added, “It is sad to note that in almost all the cases mentioned above, those who clear the vehicles in Ghana are unable to provide proof of ownership or purchase of the vehicles from the country of origin prior to their importation into Ghana.

Let me indicate here that payment of customs duties in Ghana does not mean that the vehicle was legitimately acquired from the country of origin”

“Let me indicate here that payment of customs duties in Ghana does not mean that the vehicle was legitimately acquired from the country of origin,” she added.

COP Lyida Donkor further detailed how the criminals smuggled 43 stolen luxury vehicles into Ghana.

She revealed that a special CID task force, set up to tackle vehicle-related crimes, gathered intelligence exposing the car smuggling criminal scheme.

She revealed that the vehicles are often rented from car rental companies in Ghana under false pretences.

“These criminals rent vehicles using fake identities. While the rental agreement is still valid, they secretly arrange for the vehicles to be shipped out.

Once they receive confirmation that the vehicle has been successfully exported, they stop paying the rental fees and cut off communication with the rental company,” she explained.

“We urge the public to report suspicious vehicle dealings and cooperate with police investigations as the CID intensifies its fight against cross-border vehicle crimes,” she said.

“We don’t intend to sell scholarships like we are selling tomatoes” – George Opare Addo

0

George Opare Addo, the Youth Development and Empowerment Minister, has said the John Mahama-led government does not intend to sell scholarships like we are selling tomatoes on the market.

According to George Opare Addo, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat will be changed into the Ghana Scholarship Authority.

He emphasised that the Ministry of Education will establish the Ghana Scholarship Authority Act to streamline and effectively oversee the system for awarding state-sponsored scholarships.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 4, 2025, George Opare Addo stated, “We are currently collaborating with the Ministry of Education to establish the Ghana Scholarship Authority Act. This act aims to transform the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat into the Ghana Scholarship Authority.

“The goal is to streamline and effectively oversee the system for awarding state-sponsored scholarships. We don’t intend to sell scholarships like we are selling tomatoes on the Ghanaian market,” he said.

He added, “A proposed bill has been presented to Parliament for consideration. However, the processes have been suspended to allow for further and broader consultations with stakeholders”.

George Opare Addo, in an earlier interview with JoyNews’ PM Express, asserted that based on the investigation conducted by the Fourth Estate, scholarships in Ghana were administered like selling tomatoes.

He detailed, “For instance, we did not have a standard procedure for administering scholarships, and so it was about whom you know.

So the state will have to look for very smart, young, dedicated students and then sponsor their education so that they can go and come back or get training and then come and help fix the problem.”

He added, “From where I sit, while growing up, I knew that scholarships are for brilliant but needy students, people who could not afford or if the state had the need to address a certain challenge.”

“How scholarships have been administered was like selling tomatoes in the market. People go and then say, ‘Ah, let me pay ¢10 or ¢20,’ based on the investigations that the Fourth Estate did. So we wanted to address that challenge.”

George Opare noted, “I don’t think it is even proper for a government agency like GNPC to be administering scholarships when there is a scholarship agency or an authority or executive that is mandated by law to run.”

“There was no law as to how scholarships are administered. And so, where we are today, we needed to have a comprehensive program so that I know that this is the criteria that has been set out when I’m looking for a scholarship, this is what I have to meet, and this is how I apply.”

On  Foreign scholarship, George Opare Addo asserted that the State must not spend money sending students abroad if those courses are taught locally.

He detailed, “That is what we have currently, as in the proposal in the bill, and Parliament will have to look at it and decide.”

“What it means is that we have no hope, no confidence in our own institutions, and if we cannot, as a government, support our institutions to build that kind of confidence… even some of the schools that some of these students leave Ghana to attend, if we compare their pedigree to UG, KNUST and UCC, you ask yourself, are we serious at all?”

“Yes, know some of the things Ashesi University is doing, and so if there is a need to fund some students. The cost will be part of the things we’ll look at. But you see, although Ashesi is not cheap, there are some programs that Ashesi is running that UG and KNUST are not running.”

“If Ashesi has that potential, why should I send a student out of Ghana when Ashesi can do it, when I can give the money to a Ghanaian entrepreneur, and the money is going to remain in Ghana.”

Watch Richard Jakpa storm Nutrifoods Ghana, producers of Tasty Tom

0

Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security, has stormed Nutrifoods Ghana, producers of Tasty Tom enriched Tomato mix.

According to Richard Jakpa, Nutrifoods Ghana produced Tasty Tom tomatoes mix on July 21, and in just 10 days, the product has already bloated.

He noted that Ghanaians’ health matters, and they will do everything to expose and bring them to book.

Speaking in the viral video, Richard Jakpa stated, “All these packs here are rejected, as you can see, this is Tasty Tom enriched Tomato mix produced by Nurtrifoods Ghana Limited.

It was produced on the 21st of July, 2025, and in less than ten days, it is fully bloated, and they have a lot of products packed in their warehouse, and we are going for them”.

He boldly added, “This cannot be tolerated in Ghana, our health manner and everything must be done to expose them and bring them to book so that Ghanaians can eat proper foods”.

The video has emerged following the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) order to suspend the manufacture of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix.

According to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), there have been some safety breaches at the production facility of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited.

In a statement issued on Sunday, August 3, by the FDA, all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products and batches of the product in 380g and 1.05kg pouches have been recalled.

The FDA revealed numerous consumer complaints, and an investigation led to their decision.

FDA inspection also found poor maintenance of key manufacturing equipment and a lack of adequate monitoring systems.

The FDA statement read, “Accra: August 3, 2025 – The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended the manufacture of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix with immediate effect. A market recall of all canned Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix products, and specific batches of the product in pouches (the 380g and 1.05kg pouches) was earlier directed by the FDA”.

The statement added, “The suspension follows consumer complaints and FDA’s investigation of Nutrifoods Ghana Limited’s manufacturing plant, which established infractions on standards and quality. Maintenance of critical manufacturing equipment was poor, and monitoring systems were inadequate to protect public health and safety.

The lapses at the manufacturing plant affected the integrity of the canned products by compromising the sealing mechanisms, leading to contamination and bloating of the products in pouches Mold was found on some of them, raising serious health and safety concerns, hence the suspension and product recall”.

The FDA further revealed, Nutrifoods were earlier barred from manufacturing the product in January 2025.

“In line with the FDA’s commitment to transparency and accountability, internal investigations have commenced to ascertain if there were regulatory lapses, particularly because Nutrifoods had earlier in January 2025 been barred from manufacturing the product. Any dereliction of duty identified will be swiftly dealt with in order to strengthen the FDA’s regulatory oversight”.

The FDA statement further urged consumers, retailers and wholesalers to take note of this directive

“The Authority advises consumers, retailers and wholesalers to take note of this directive and act accordingly. We will continue to exercise rigorous oversight in accordance with our mandate to protect public health and safety”, the statement added.

Murder weapon in the slain Immigration Officer case found in suspect home

0

The Ghana Police Service has announced that they have discovered weapons used in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen Amoah at the residence of the main suspect.

According to the police, during a search of the suspect’s home, they found bloodstains in the living room and evidence of a freshly painted wall, apparently intended to conceal the crime.

The Police revealed a separate search at another location uncovered a blood-stained carpet that had been burned and a fufu pestle stained with blood.

COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, detailed that all recovered items were sent for forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of human blood.

Speaking during a press conference on August 4, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor detailed, “The investigation took a decisive turn on July 16, 2025, when the CID, supported by officers from the Counter Terrorism Unit and the Kwabenya District Police, visited the suspect’s residence. A forensic review revealed the following: bloodstains in the living room, evidence of attempted cleanup, freshly painted walls, and an empty can of spray paint.

“A search of a secondary crime scene near the GBC Satellite Area also uncovered a burnt woolen carpet stained with blood and a partially burnt camouflage fabric. These items were photographed, retrieved, and processed for forensic analysis,” she added.

The CID boss added, “On July 24, police obtained a warrant to search a specific room in the suspect’s house. The search revealed additional bloodstains, which were photographed and sampled for forensic analysis. A further search in the bushes approximately 100 meters from the suspect’s house also led to the retrieval of a fufu pestle with bloodstains all over it, wrapped in polythene,” she said.

COP Donkor also revealed that an impounded vehicle belonging to the suspect also contained bloodstains and tested positive for human blood.

“Police also impounded the suspect’s vehicle, in which bloodstains were found and collected for analysis. I wish to state that the initial blood samples collected have tested positive for human blood. To aid the investigation, the deceased’s mother and son have provided samples for DNA profiling,” she stated.

COP Yaako Donkor has disclosed that the suspect has now been charged with murder in light of the new evidence gathered and will reappear in court on August 8.

She added that efforts are being made to arrest his accomplices.

COP Yaako Donkor added, “In light of this evidence, the suspect, initially charged with kidnapping, has been re-arrested and formally charged with murder. He is currently in custody following his appearance before the Adabraka District Court and is scheduled to reappear on August 8, 2025.

“A special operation is currently underway to identify and arrest his accomplices, and we are following other vital leads to gather all necessary evidence against the suspect and his accomplices,” she said.

Background

The burnt body of Stephen King Amoah, a Ghana Immigration Service officer, who was reported missing under mysterious circumstances since Thursday, July 3, 2025, was found at Abuom Junction near Kwabenya in the Greater Accra region.

The family complained to the Taifa Police on July 4, 2025, after several attempts to reach him.

Amoah left home that evening, Thursday, July 3, after receiving a call from a friend who allegedly owed him GHS200,000.

If given one minute, I would apologise to Mahama, Jane Naana and Sammy Gyamfi – Agradaa

The husband of Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, commonly known as Agradaa, Angel Asiamah, has said his wife, if given one minute, will apologise to three people.

Angel Asiamah revealed he visited his wife at the Nsawam Prison. I asked her what she would say to the world if she were given just a minute.

According to Angel Asiamah, his wife said she would apologise to President John Dramani Mahama, the vice president Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, and the Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi.

Speaking to his congregant on Sunday, July 3, 2025, Angel Asiamah narrated, “I visited my wife, and I asked her if she had one minute to say something to the world, what would she say?

She said she will beg three people, in what has happened, the first person is President John Mahama, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, and the third Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, those three people are those she would beg”.

He added that Agradaa want God to give the three a calm heart so they will forgive her of her sins.

Agradaa is serving a 15-year jail term after she was sentenced for two counts of defrauding by false pretences.

She was sentenced by Her Honour Evelyn Asamoah of the Circuit Court.

Agradaa was also fined GH¢300 for one count of charlatanic advertisement, with a 30-day custodial sentence in default of payment.

Her charges stem from a televised advertisement she aired in 2022.

In the ad, Agradaa claimed she has the power to double the money for her congregants at the Godsway International Heaven Church, misleading them into surrendering their money during an all-night church service at her Weija-based ministry in Accra.

According to the Judge, Evelyn Asamoah, Agradaa skilfully executed the offences and showed no remorse during proceedings.

Meanwhile, Agradaa is seeking a plea bargaining agreement with the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, in another court case.

She is seeking a plea bargain in a case involving her sharing non-consensual intimate images of preacher Osofo Appiah, also known as Osofo Biblical.

Osofo Appiah, the complainant, claimed that he was assaulted by individuals believed to be close associates of Agradaa during her time as a fetish priestess.

He further accuses her of unlawfully airing a private video of him engaging in a sexual act with a married woman. The footage was reportedly broadcast on her former television station, Thunder TV.

Agradaa is now seeking a plea bargaining agreement with AG Ayine in the case where she and two others have been charged for sharing nude images of a prophet.

The case has since been adjourned to 21st October, pending the outcome of negotiations.

In addition, a 15-year-old daughter in a heartfelt speech pleaded with the court to free her mother.

In the viral video, Agradaa’s daughter stated, “Mummy is gone, 15 years is long, what am I to do?… I need my mom, her love and care.

Please, can the court show mercy and spare her? I am just a kid with a heart that breaks. See Mummy’s photograph on the news, YouTube and papers.

She added, “I need her smile, her hugs and songs. I want her home where she belongs. My friends at school were kind and said they would pray. But I cant wait day after day.

Dear court, consider my plea. Can Mummy come home and be with me? I will be strong and brave, but without Mummy, it is hard to behave.  Please, can you help and wipe away my tears?”

“False, baseless, and defamatory” – NPP refutes claims of $280,000 smear campaign against Mahama

0

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has refuted allegations of engaging in a contractual relationship with a Ukrainian public relations firm, Brandcom, on a smear campaign against John Mahama.

According to the NPP, the allegations are completely false, baseless, and defamatory.

The NPP boldly emphasised that they have no contractual relationship with Brandcom, past or present.

In a press statement issued on August 3, 2025,  the NPP stated, “At no point did the leadership of the NPP engage, authorise, or instruct any foreign agency to operate fake social media accounts, produce smear campaign content, or undertake any unethical digital activities during the 2024 presidential campaign or any other cycle”.

“We reject any insinuation that undermines our record of issue-based campaigning and respect for democratic norms,” the statement added.

“Furthermore, the NPP views this publication as a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the party and sow public distrust. We demand an immediate retraction of the false claims and reserve the right to pursue legal action against Brandcom and any media outlet that publishes or republishes these unsubstantiated allegations”, it added.

The NPP statement comes after a Ukrainian PR firm, Brandcom, threatened to sue the party after unpaid services $280,000, aimed allegedly at discrediting John Mahama during the 2024 elections.

According to Brandcom, the then-ruling NPP employed them to run a campaign against the NDC flagbearer John Mahama.

Brandcom claimed that its work involved managing a large network of fake social media accounts, a total of 430 and creating 87 memes and infographics mocking Mahama’s key campaign promise of establishing a 24-hour economy.

The Ukrainian PR firm alleged that it created four videos criticising the outcome of Mahama’s first presidential term.

The entire campaign, Brandcom says, constituted a coordinated media assault across Ghanaian outlets. Brandcom now claims the NPP has refused to pay its bill after they lost the 2024 elections.

Brandcom is now seeking legal redress, demanding not only the original $280,000 fee but also late payment penalties and coverage of legal expenses.

They have also threatened to release evidence of their collaboration with the NPP, including recorded conversations with party representatives.

In addition, an analysis of the social media accounts that spread negative content about John Mahama in 2024 revealed a troubling pattern with accounts that had previously posted pro-Ukraine content and criticism of Russia during the war.

The information gathered from Ghana Chronicles also uncovered technical evidence. Metadata from some of the promotional materials used against Mahama included IP addresses registered in Kyiv.

The campaign’s targeting strategies, particularly aimed at Ghana’s youth, were nearly identical to those Brandcom has used in political campaigns for Ukrainian clients.

The cumulative evidence of identical operational methods, Kyiv-based IP addresses, prior account activity, and the agency’s own statements strongly supports Brandcom’s involvement in the anti-Mahama campaign.

It is yet to be known the full extent of NPP’s collaboration with foreign operatives, and how this might affect public trust in Ghanaian politics.

In a related story, the NPP were also exposed some months ago for deploying over 170 fake X accounts to spread false AI-generated messages against the NDC and John Mahama.

McKenzie Sadeghi, an editor of AI and foreign influence at NewsGuard who contributed to the research, told Rest of World, “The primary goal of the network appears to be to amplify pro-NPP messaging, promote the Bawumia administration and take aim at the opposition National Democratic Congress.”

The director of research and development at the NewGuard revealed in an interview that fake accounts tend to post at “regular” and “predictable” intervals, often ten or more times per day. He added that in Ghana, the fake accounts tend to be lively between 8 am and 6 pm.

The fake accounts have AI-generated profile photos, and have names such as “Glenn Washington,” “Netflix Series&Movies,” and “Patriot” They also belittle John Mahama, the presidential candidate from the National Democratic Congress using hashtags such as #mahamaisaliar and #DrunkmaniMahama, accusing Mahama of being a drunkard, which John Mahama has since denied.

Gov’t increases producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne

0

Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the finance minister, has announced that the government has approved the increase in the producer price of cocoa from US$3,100 per tonne to US$5,040 per tonne.

He further announced that the new prices take effect from Thursday, 7th August 2025.

Ghana Cocoa Board CEO Dr Randy Abbey had earlier revealed some months ago announced that a new cocoa producer price will be revealed in August 2025, surpassing the Ivory Coast’s price.

However, Dr Randy Abbey, in a recent interview, noted that the recent appreciation of the cedi diminished the rise of the cocoa price per ton, which is set to rise substantially.

“What we are seeing now is a situation where global prices are high, and that would normally translate into higher incomes for our farmers. But with the cedi appreciating sharply, the gains could be reduced when translated into Ghana cedi”, he added.

0

Sam Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, has publicly celebrated 13 years of marriage and 17 years of love.

In an emotional message shared, X, Sam George stated, “Today marks 17 years of our love journey and 13 years of marriage. Our love story has been a reflection of life – highs, lows, joys and tears”.

He added, “We have built a union built on love and respect for each other. I cherish the bond we share and look forward to the next chapters of our story”.

Sam George further went on to thank his partner, describing her as a wonderful partner, lover, mother, wife, but most importantly, friend.

“Thanks for being a wonderful partner, lover, mother, wife but most importantly friend. I loved you that first day, today, tomorrow and every tomorrow after. 🦁♥️”, his heartfelt tribute added.

Vera George is Sam George’s wife, and their marriage has been healthy and supportive for more than ten years.

Sam George and his wife marked their tenth wedding anniversary in August 2022. They have three children.

Sam George has frequently described his wife as “best friend, mother of my kids, wife of my youth, and personal Ayigbe Toffee.”

Also, Sam George, in an old video in 2022 on the Delay Show, revealed his wife is an entomologist, but at the moment, she is a stay-at-home mum looking after their three kids.

In addition, it will be recalled that Sam George, during his vetting as Communications Minister, revealed that his wife takes care of him.

According to Sam George, his wife, Vera George, is his secondary source of income and takes care of him.

This came up after Afenyo Markin questioned Sam George during his vetting about his source of funding for his UK study program.

Here is a narration of what ensued between the two:

Afenyo Markin: The period you became a member of parliament, you were not doing any other business, you were solely dependent on your salary, correct?

Sam George: Yes, Mr Chairman, as my primary source of income.

Afenyo Markin: Did you have the benefit of any secondary source of Income?

Sam George: Mr Chairman, I am married to a very industrious woman.

Afenyo Markin: I don’t get it. Please explain to us what exactly you mean.

Sam George: I mean, my wife takes care of me.

Afenyo Markin: an industrious woman who takes care of you, are you suggesting that she also paid your school fees for your UK program?

Sam George: Mr Chairman, I believe this committee has asked me to furnish them with records of the fees that I paid. I don’t see where we are going with this.

Afenyo Markin: If the Chairman allows my questions, I will follow up based on what you said. I never asked your wife, and I didn’t ask you about her business. You said your wife takes care of you; these are your words. Are you aware that your wife, through her industry, has been paying her taxes?

The monies that your wife gives you, which you say is your second source of income, do you pay taxes on them?

Sam George: Mr Chairman, I have no point in time before this committee, and I said that my wife gives me money. I have no point in time, made that claim, my claim before this committee is that my wife takes care of me, and I didn’t say he gives me money.

Fighting DStv publicly will deter investors – Sam George told

0

Fuseini Issah, former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, has told Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, to desist from fighting DStv Ghana publicly.

The former member of parliament noted that Sam George publicly fighting DStv will deter the investors from entering the market the Ghanaian market.

According to Fuseini Issah, a calm dialogue will be better than public confrontation.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, August 4, Fuseini Issah stated, “If you are fighting DStv publicly, I don’t see how another company will find this environment attractive enough to bring their investment.

You don’t know how this is going to affect the business environment in Ghana and our foreign investment,” he said.

He added, “I think we should find cool heads, go back to the table, and resolve this matter.”

Fuseini Issah’s comment comes on the heels of Sam Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, announcing MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

The minister comparing prices of DSTV subscription packages between Ghana and other African countries like Nigeria, South Africa, and others noted that Ghana’s Premium bouquet sells for the equivalent of US$83 while as same bouquet in Nigeria sells for US$29.

According to Sam George, DSTV price disparity cannot be explained by anyone.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, Sam George stated, “In my capacity as Minister, my fidelity is to the Ghanaian people. I have written to the NCA, instructing them to suspend DSTV’s broadcasting licence effective August 7 if they do not comply”.

However, DStv Ghana fired back, stating it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

DSTV Ghana statement issued on Sunday, August 3 and signed by Alex Okyere, Managing Director of DSTV Ghana, read, “MultiChoice notes with concern the recent statements made by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr Samuel Nartey George, regarding DStv pricing in Ghana.

It is regrettable that the Honourable Minister has taken this stance, notwithstanding our ongoing endeavours to engage with the Honourable Minister candidly and in good faith on this important matter. In an effort to arrive at a resolution, we have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the National Communications Authority (“the NCA”) on an alternative further engagement avenue”.

MultiChoice DSTV further added that after operating in Ghana for over 30 years, they are mindful of the dire implications that an impasse may have.

“Having operated in Ghana for 30 plus years, we value our employees, contract staff, dealers, installers, agents, and retailers in Ghana. We are mindful of the dire implications that an impasse may have on you and your livelihoods, and we assure you that we are committed to working together with the Honourable Minister and the NCA to resolve this matter”.

The statement added, “While we appreciate the recent appreciation of the Cedi (which we have never referred to as a “fluke”, it is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister”.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has also waded into the brouhaha surrounding MultiChoice DSTV subscription packages in Ghana.

According to the Minority in Parliament, there must be fair DSTV subscription pricing.

In a statement signed by Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, on Sunday, August 3, read, “The Minority in Parliament has taken note of the growing public concern over the high cost of DStv subscription packages in Ghana compared to other countries in the sub-region. We believe the concerns Ghanaians raised are valid and deserve urgent attention.

We fully support the advocacy initiated by patriotic citizens, which has now attracted the attention of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation. We agree that subscription fees must be set fairly and that pricing must reflect the realities of Ghana’s economy”.

The minority noted Sam George’s commitment to protecting the Ghanaian consumer, but added that the solutions must be grounded in law, fairness, and constructive engagement.

“Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the worst MP in NPP history” – Owusu-Bempah claims

0

Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has launched a scathing attack on former Suame Constituency Member of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, after he described Kennedy Agyapong as a fanciful talker.

According to Ernest Owusu-Bempah, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is the worst member of parliament in the history of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

Ernest Owusu-Bempah highlighted that the former Suame MP is the most unpopular MP after the 2016 elections and accused him of not doing anything for his constituents.

Speaking during an interview on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Ernest Owusu-Bempah stated, “Who are those saying that? Mention their names and let me reply to them, who is a fancy talker, who speaks useless English in parliament more than those who say those things. Go to his constituency, the worst parliamentarian in the history of the NPP.

We are all in Kumasi, and it got to a point where he almost lost his seat. We all know this town is the most unpopular MP after the 2016 elections. Even the NDC and Alban Bagbin came here to campaign for him, the worst MP. What has he done for his constituency?”

He added, “It is because people love the NPP that they went out to vote, not because of him. It is in the heart of the Asante Region. Don’t compare Assin Fosu to the Asante Region, which is the Suame Constituency. He was just a fortunate leader in the mix of affairs. I have not attacked him. I am not mentioning any names here.

Ghanaians should not be listening to people who have no merit in Ghanaian politics. What at all has he done apart from standing in parliament and reading hansard? What has he done for Ghanaians, and what has he done for the people of Suame?”

He further added that Kennedy Agyapong has done so many things for Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu that he knows.

Ernest Owusu-Bempah further reiterated, “Why is he so belligerent in attacking Kennedy Agyapong?  Kennedy Agyapong walks the talk. Has Kyei Mensan Bonsu been able to build a cardio-therapeutic centre at the 37 military hospital? Go to KATH, Ken Agyapong also built a whole MRI machine that patients now use for free.

Owusu Bempah further claimed, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu wants to be a running mate, which is why he is attacking Mr Agyapong.

“If it is because of the promise we are hearing, that they want to give him a running mate position, and that is why he is attacking Kennedy Agyapong, then it will fall flat on his face.

He has no popularity at the grassroots level of the party. If Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is even passing, nobody in the NPP would recognise him”, he added.

Ernest Owusu-Bempah’s comments come after Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu subtly fired Kennedy Agyapong, a NPP flagbearer hopeful.

According to Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, NPP members must not be deceived by fancy talkers.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on July 21, 2025, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated, “Action speaks louder than words… Don’t be deceived by fancy talkers”.

When asked whether his remarks were directed at Kennedy Agyapong, he stated, “I have not said so. I’m just playing back the music of Jimmy Cliff to us.”

He added, If you are talking about the grassroots, I am a grassroots man. I started this party in 1992. I represent the grassroots as well. If I were disconnected from my grassroots at Suame, I could not have on seven consecutive occasions be their representative. I am a grassroots person”.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, however, acknowledged that Ken Agyapong might possess a connection with the grassroots.

He added, “I don’t dispute the fact that he may also have his own connection with the grassroots. After all, he also contested six times. When he left, he surrendered the seat to the NDC; when I left, I maintained the seat for the NPP.

“So, in terms of grassroots connection, don’t let us overhype our strength. Don’t let anybody over-exaggerate his strength,” he said.

“Your response glaringly sidesteps the most crucial issue” – Kwaku Azar blasts DStv

0

Professor Kwaku Asare, popularly known as Kwaku Azar, a Legal scholar and public interest advocate, has blasted DStv Ghana following their statement on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Kwaku Azar noted that DStv Ghana’s response glaringly sidesteps the most crucial issue raised by Sam George, the Communication Minister.

MultiChoice DSTV, in a statement, stated it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

In an effort to arrive at a resolution, we have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the National Communications Authority (“the NCA”) on an alternative further engagement avenue”.

Professor Kwaku Asare, reacting to DStv Ghana’s statement, wrote, “GOGO read your 3rd August 2025 media statement on DSTV pricing in Ghana with keen interest. While you express concern over the Honourable Minister’s comments, your response glaringly sidesteps the most crucial issue he raised: the comparative data showing that DSTV subscription fees are disproportionately higher in Ghana than in several other African countries.

As a paying customer, GOGO expected your response to engage the Minister’s data directly. Instead, your letter offers generic justifications about “macroeconomic conditions” and your commitment to “competitive pricing.”

Kwaku Azar added, “As a paying customer, GOGO expected your response to engage the Minister’s data directly. Instead, your letter offers generic justifications about “macroeconomic conditions” and your commitment to “competitive pricing.”

Yet, the Minister’s analysis shows clearly that Ghanaians are paying more for the same or even fewer channels than consumers in countries with similar or worse macroeconomic conditions. That demands a real explanation.

We don’t need alternative engagement avenues. We need alternative pricing models that are transparent, fair, and friendly to Ghanaian consumers”.

Kwaku Azar further fired three questions at DStv Ghana to answer, “Why are DSTV prices in Ghana higher than in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa when adjusted for exchange rates and purchasing power parity?

Are Ghana’s macroeconomic conditions truly worse than in those countries? If so, please provide comparative metrics to justify your claim.

What exactly is the cost structure of your Ghana operations? How much of the pricing is driven by satellite costs, taxes, content licensing, or profit margins?

How does this differ from your cost structure in other African markets?”

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has also waded into the brouhaha surrounding MultiChoice DSTV subscription packages in Ghana.

“It’s a matter of lorryfare” – Jerry Ahmed on his absence from pre-sitting meetings

0

Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has shockingly blamed his absence on pre-sitting parliamentary meetings on transport fare.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other commercial transport operators announced a drop in transport by 15 per cent on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

This comes following successful negotiations between transport operators and the Ministry of Transport.

The 15 per cent adjustment reflects the sustained appreciation of the cedi against the US dollar, contributing to a significant drop in fuel prices.

Speaking on CITI NEWS, Abass Imoro, the Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) stated, “We have finally agreed to reduce lorry fares by 15%, but it will take effect from Saturday.

Although currently, spare parts sellers have promised to reduce some of their prices for now, which hasn’t taken effect, and none of the lubricants which went up have been reduced currently, we decided to peg the reduction at 15%”, he added.

Nevertheless, the truth on the ground tells a different narrative, one that is marked by non-compliance, exploitation, and growing dissatisfaction among road commuters, specifically traders, public servants and students.

Also, Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro has advised passengers not to assault drivers or their mates if they refuse to implement the 15% fare reduction on Saturday, 24th May 2025.

According to Alhaji Abbas Ibrahim Moro, passengers should rather report drivers and mates who fail to comply with the 15 per cent reduction of transport fare to the police instead.

The GPRTU PRO is quoted to have said, “ Don’t beat drivers or mates if they refuse to reduce fares by 15 per cent on Saturday; report them to the Police instead”.

In addition, the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on July 30 issued a warning to commercial drivers in the metropolis against charging unapproved transport fares.

“Give me 8 years, I will beat Nkrumah’s record” – Ken Agyapong tells Ghanaians

0

Kennedy Agyapong, the former member of parliament for Assin Central and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged Ghanaians to give him eight years in power, and he will break Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s records.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, in just 9 years, had done what no president has been able to match in Ghana’s political history.

Kennedy Agyapong revealed that Dr Kwame Nkrumah is his role model, and he has seen what Ghana’s first president has achieved and wants to beat those records.

Speaking on Talk Time with Kwesi Pratt on Pan African TV on August 2, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You see, I have role models and these role models are pragmatists.

Kennedy Agyapong further claimed he will be able to beat the late former president Kwame Nkrumah’s records if the Ghanaian’s gave him 8 years to rule the country.

“When you give me 8 years, I will beat his record,” the politician added.

Kennedy Agyapong further condemned the sloganeering approach by succeeding governments, which has not yielded any results for Ghana.

He added, “Enough is enough of the theories. We have been propounding theories that we’re going to do this, we’re going to do that, and I feel that first, we’re not on top of the game, because we’re not brilliant on the basics”.

In addition, Kennedy Agyapong, in the same interview, stated that the New Patriotic Party has a fighting chance in the 2028 elections if the party chooses him as the flagbearer.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he is the NPP’s best bet to beat the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He emphasised that he is going to beat the NDC hands down if voted as the NPP presidential candidate.

Mr Agyapong added, “The party has a fighting chance, but it depends on the candidate they choose. If they choose Kennedy Agyapong, they have a fighting chance; I will beat NDC hands down”.

Kennedy Agyapong further gave an insight into his plans for Ghana, “Can you imagine the tourism industry? What are we going to do? Right in the middle of the sea in Dubai, they’ve created an island”.

“Ghana is the centre of the world, and we don’t have a hotel with the name Centre of the World to attract tourists. We are going to build a hotel in the sea. It is possible. I’ve seen it work elsewhere, and therefore it is going to work”.

Also, Mr Agyapong took the opportunity to explain why he chose to stay silent during the peak of last year’s campaign season and also discussed his decision to apologise to President Mahama for some of the criticisms he had previously made against him.

He added, “We(NPP) stepped on so many toes, they show some videos about Kennedy Agyapong, he said this, he is not presidential material if they are not being diabolical, and you listen carefully, it was advice I was giving them and criticising some bad deeds of the party people.

But now they use it against me. During the campaign, I have been quiet because they wrote ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, that’s why I apologise to President Mahama because he has been very nice to me, he loves me, but because of my party, I ignore this relationship and criticise him”.

He added, “I have to be honest, I was harsh when I was criticising the NDC, my party was happy, but when I decided to contest was the time they used all the things I said against me”.

Kennedy Agyapong revealed that he has become quiet because he does not want his party to have another sin added to his ten list of sins.

He revealed, “All the things I used to defend NDC became a sin, and they circle around ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong. So now I am quite my argument is that in the Bible, they have the ten Commandments, and since Abraham’s times, they have not added one to it for it to be eleven.

So, the Ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, I will not go and say anything for you to add number eleven or twelve, that is why I am quiet”.

Meanwhile, Kennedy Agyapong contested in the NPP’s 2024 presidential primaries, losing to the former vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

He has already officially declared his intention to contest again in the NPP flagbearer election slated for 2026.

Minority calls for fair DSTV subscription pricing

0

The Minority in Parliament has waded into the brouhaha surrounding MultiChoice, DSTV subscription packages in Ghana.

Their statement added, “While we recognise the Ministry’s commitment to protecting the Ghanaian consumer, we believe solutions must be grounded in law, fairness, and constructive engagement. The goal should be to secure a price reduction for Ghanaians while maintaining a stable investment environment. We are therefore calling for a seizure of the media war. These matters must be settled diplomatically”.

The NPP minority also revealed that they have requested a meeting with the  Minister for Communications and MultiChoice Ghana.

In this regard, the Minority has formally written to the Chairman of the Information and Communications Committee requesting that the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation and MultiChoice Ghana (DStv) be summoned before the Committee.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice DSTV, in a statement, stated it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

MultiChoice DSTV statement comes on the heels of Sam Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, telling DSTV that the mistreatment of the Ghanaian consumer is enough.

Also, Sam George, the Communication minister fired back at MultiChoice operators of DSTV following their recent statement claiming it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

According to Sam George, the statement issued by DSTV Ghana vindicates his earlier position that they simply do not take the Ghanaian people seriously enough.

In a post on X in reaction to DSTV’s statement on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Sam George wrote, “I have read the release by DStv Ghana and taken full consideration that they vindicate my earlier position that they simply do not take the Ghanaian people serious enough.

The same Group operating in Nigeria reversed price increases in Nigeria when the Nigerian authorities sued them. The Nigerian House of Representatives took the matter up and ordered a suspension of the increases. They complied”.

Sam George noted, “This year, in April, at a time the Ghanaian cedi had seen a ~10% appreciation against all major currencies, inflation had dropped by over 5% and fuel prices had also dropped, DStv announced and implemented a 15% increase.

I believe in the interest of transparency, I make public the alternate proposal that DStv offered to me that I flatly rejected”.

The Communication Minister further revealed that DSTV proposed that he allow them to maintain the collection of the exorbitant bouquet prices as they stand.

He added, “In all honesty, that offer lacks any logic in my estimation. The essence of my action is to see Ghanaians pay a fair price for the services offered. How does this proposal solve the real issue?

For far too long, corporations have fleeced the Ghanaian people. There has been a RESET, and it demands a new style of public service that is fiercely protective of the Ghanaian people. I remain empathetic to the Ghanaian staff of DStv, but I believe that they should stand with the rest of us as we demand what is right for us”.

Sam George, however, reiterated that he remains open to constructive engagements that are centred on price reduction.

FDA suspends Tasty Tom Tomato Mix production

0

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has ordered the suspension of the manufacture of Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix.

“There is nothing in Bawku to fight over” – Stephen Atubiga cries out

0

Stephen Atubiga, the founder and leader of the National Liberation Congress (NLC), has cried out that there is nothing in Bawku in the Upper East Region to fight over.

Stephen Atubiga noted that Bawku does not even have the amenities you would expect, yet all residents do is fight.

According to Stephen Atubiga, he wishes he could change his name to an Asante name because of the disgrace associated with the Bawku conflict.

Speaking in an interview on UTV on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Stephen Atubiga stated, “We receive international calls, and I must say it is an indictment on us. It is embarrassing. I am telling you the seriousness of the Bawku conflict. I wish I could change my name to Kwasi Boakye, an Asante name, because of the disgrace, what is in chieftaincy? It is worth it for anyone to die. How much is an acre of land in the township?

“It is not worth dying for. Nothing about this fight makes sense anymore,” he added.

He lamented, “Bawku doesn’t even have the amenities you’d expect in a peaceful community. Yet, all we do is fight. There is nothing there to fight over.”

Stephen Atubiga further asserted that the people of Bawku are stuck with poverty in backwardness.

According to him, he often uses his own funds to support families affected by the violence.

He added, “I take care of many families from Bawku with my own money. But how long can this go on? We are stuck in poverty, in backwardness, and we are doing it to ourselves.”

“You can ask my aides, I spend not less than GH¢5,000 a day to assist residents. I could have used that money for other purposes, like marrying a third or fourth wife”.

Stephen Atubiga further recounted calling his father, who told him he was sleeping at 2 PM.

“I have never celebrated my birthday. I called my father, who has been an MP before, he said, ‘My son, I am sleeping and it’s only 2 PM’, the situation is very bad”, he added.

In a related news on the Bawku Conflict, Afia Pokua, commonly known as Vim Lady, has fired shots at President John Dramani Mahama over the ongoing conflicts in Bawku.

According to Vim Lady, Bawku residents are dying like fowls, and President John Dramani Mahama is also to blame.

Vim lady emphasised that the Bawku conflict has been reduced to a political fight instead of a joint effort by the NDC and the NPP to deal with the issue.

Speaking on her “Egyaso Gyaso” show on Okay FM, Vim Lady stated, “Now, anybody who has evil intentions can take advantage of the Bawku conflict and escalate things.

“And President Mahama, you are part of the whole thing, so take action, because it’s not everything we must politicise. That’s why people are questioning President Mahama.

The Ghanaian media personality further cited President Mahama’s remarks in opposition when he claimed that when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is in power, there is peace in Bawku.

She noted that it had been seven months since the NDC government in office, yet the Bawku conflict persists.

Vim Lady added, “Because they’ve used the conflict for politics, claiming that if the NDC comes to power, they’ll solve it. But the NDC is in power now, and still, seven months on, we haven’t been able to resolve it.

This should have been a joint fight between the NDC and NPP, without politics. But now people are dying like fowls”.

“What you said is now haunting you. And people are still dying, including students”, she reiterated.

Background

The Bawku conflict escalated following the return of rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre from exile.

Alhaji Seidu Abagre fled Bawku after an arrest warrant was issued against him; however, the High Court in Kumasi on October 17, 2024, nullified the warrant, allowing him to resurface.

In the past weeks, fresh violence has exploded in Bawku after a student of Bawku Senior High School was apparently pulled from his dormitory and shot dead by unknown attackers.

The residence of the Member of Parliament for Bawku and Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, was also reportedly set on fire.

Also, there is the recent killing of a Kusasi chief in Kumasi, which has sparked a series of reprisal attacks.

Reports suggest two more individuals were reportedly killed in Kumasi in connection with the chieftaincy tensions.

Despite increased efforts by security forces to suppress the unrest and safeguard commuters, armed assailants continue to unleash deadly attacks.

However, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on August 1, 2025 has launched a major intelligence-led search operation aimed at flushing out armed bandits and retrieving illegal weapons in the conflict-hit municipality.

Also, over 200 military personnel have been deployed within the Bawku municipality, and an additional 200 troops are stationed across the Upper East Region.

Bawumia’s own words were used against him in the 2024 elections – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, the former member of parliament for Assin Central and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s own words were used against him in the party’s 2024 election defeat.

Kennedy Agyapong refuted claims that the NDC’s victory was due to his comments.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, the suggestion that his comments were used as ads, which contributed to the NPP defeat, is not valid.

He noted that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s own pronouncements in the past and in government were used against in.

Speaking on Pan African Television, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You saw the former Chief Justice picketing. So during my campaign, I told them that anybody in that administration lost in 2022 because Ghanaians had decided they would get rid of us, and they used that against me, that I caused their defeat. Some candidates go around and say because of him, we lost the election”.

He added, “Did I say that when the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you? The lady quoted it at the Agric Bank. Did I say that I am going to lock the dollar? It is under lock and key, and I’ve given the key to the police, whatever?

You think I am the only smartest person in the country that did not listen or hear? When they are losing their business and take a decision, now you use it against me that I caused the defeat? Today is an opportunity for me to explain this.

Look at the NDC advert, the number of adverts, what Bawumia said that they used against him and compare to the number of adverts they said I have said that. They have never been fair, but I leave it to God”.

Kennedy Agyapong added, “They’ve never been fair. I leave it to God. All the things I said were a caution to them; if they had listened to me, there wouldn’t have been this humiliating defeat ever, but they didn’t listen because the whole party machinery was against Kennedy Agyapong”.

In the same interview, Mr Agyapong further noted that 60 per cent of Ghana’s infrastructure was built by Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The former lawmaker highlighted that the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, in just 9 years, had done what no president has been able to match in Ghana’s political history.

Speaking on Talk Time with Kwesi Pratt on Pan African TV on August 2, 2025, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “You see, I have role models and these role models are pragmatists. Kennedy Agyapong further claimed he will be able to beat the late former president Kwame Nkrumah’s records if the Ghanaian’s gave him 8 years to rule the country.

He added, “Enough is enough of the theories. We have been propounding theories that we’re going to do this, we’re going to do that, and I feel that first, we’re not on top of the game, because we’re not brilliant on the basics”.

Meanwhile, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), has called on the Kennedy Agyapong team to stop labelling Dr Mahamamudu Bawumia as the cause of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 election.

According to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Kennedy Agyapong has always insisted that the NPP lost the 2024 election in 2022 due to the economic crisis Ghanaians faced.

In a post via social media, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah stated, “If Hon Ken admits we lost the election in 2022, then it simply means that even if he had won the primaries, we would have still lost.”

“His People should stop blaming Dr Bawumia for our defeat then. We lost the election through our collective actions, not because of our candidate”, he added.

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah further recounted that Kennedy Agyapong cannot shirk himself from the NPP’s defeat as he was a Board Chairman of one of Ghana’s biggest state institutions.

He highlighted, “Ken supporters should stop saying their candidate wasn’t part of the Government. He was the Board Chairman of one of the biggest state institutions, Ghana Gas. His wife was also a big Board Chair.

“Stop blaming Bawumia for our defeat” – Ofosu Nkansah to Ken Agyapong team

Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the former Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship & Innovation Programme (NEIP), has called on the Kennedy Agyapong team to stop labelling Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the cause of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 election.

According to Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, Kennedy Agyapong has always insisted that the NPP lost the 2024 election in 2022 due to the economic crisis Ghanaians faced.

Ofosu Nkansah noted that Mr Agyapong had more influence in the Government than 99% of NPP appointees.

He had more influence in the Government than 99% of NPP appointees, even when he wasn’t an appointee in the first term. Me that I was CEO of an agency which was like an Internet cafe (ADC) koraa wouldn’t say I wasn’t part of the Government then. Monnya saa ns3m no ka,” he added in a post shared via social media.

In addition, Joseph Kpemka, the former Deputy Attorney General, has admitted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections was a tsunami.

Speaking on Channel One TV on The Point of View, Joseph Kpemka recalled, “By 10 pm, I knew that we had lost the 2024 elections on December 7.

Because if you look at the December 2016 elections, by 8 pm to 9 pm, the reports we were getting from our IT wizard, Joseph Anokye, were very clear that we were leading”,

He added, “In the same way, in 2020, by 8 pm to 9 pm, the reports we were getting online from his office indicated that we were leading. But this time around, it was very silent and sad. So, we knew by 11 pm to 12 am that things were not going well for us at all”.

“It was a tsunami, and it was a national one that hit us hard, and the circumstances that led to that are very clear and obvious, both local and international. A lot of factors played a role,” he said.

Joseph Kpemka suggested, “If elections were to be conducted today, I’m very convinced that the performance that we recorded will improve tremendously, I’m very convinced”.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2024 election, according to the Electoral Commission’s official website secured secured 4,877,611 votes, representing 41.7%, with John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and winner in the 2024 elections, securing 6,591,790 votes, representing 56.42%.

“DStv statement shows they simply do not take the Ghanaians seriously” – Sam George fires back

0

Sam George, the Communication minister, has fired back at MultiChoice operators of DSTV following their recent statement claiming it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

Sam George, however, reiterated that he remains open to constructive engagements that are centred on price reduction.

MultiChoice DSTV, in their statement, stated it was not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

MultiChoice DSTV statement comes on the heels of Sam Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, telling DSTV that the mistreatment of the Ghanaian consumer is enough.

Meanwhile, the back and forth between Ghana’s Communication Minister, Sam George and DSTV Ghana comes after the minister revealed MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

According to Sam George, Ghana’s Premium bouquet sells for the equivalent of US$83 while as same bouquet in Nigeria sells for US$29.

MultiChoice operators of DSTV have replied to Communications Minister Sam George’s directive to reduce their subscription fees.

According to DSTV, it is not tenable to reduce prices in the manner proposed by the Minister.

MultiChoice DSTV also stressed that they never referred to Ghana’s recent cedi appreciation as a “fluke” as suggested by Sam George.

On Sunday, August 3, in a statement issued by Alex Okyere, Managing Director of DSTV Ghana, read, “MultiChoice notes with concern the recent statements made by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr Samuel Nartey George, regarding DStv pricing in Ghana.

Sam George revealed MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Friday, August 1, Sam George detailed, “The Premium bouquet sells for the equivalent of US$83 here in Ghana, whilst the same bouquet in Nigeria sells for US$29. How can anyone explain this price disparity? Enough of the mistreatment of the Ghanaian consumer.

For the premium package, Ghanaians are asked to pay $82.40 cents, Nigerians $29, Liberians $61, Angolans $33, Botswana [Botswana] $61, Eswatini [Swat] $52, South Africans $51. Clearly, Ghana is way too high; there’s no justification, it’s the same content, the same old movies that are being shown”.

“For the Compact price, Ghanians are paying $54.3, Nigerians $19.6, Liberians $36, Angolans $27, Botswana [Batswana] $43, Eswatini [Swat] $35, South Africans $34. Again, you see the clear disparity.

“For Family [price] Ghanaians are paying $18.10 cent, Nigerians $4.80 cent, Liberians $13, Angolans $11, Botswana [Batswana] $21, Eswatini [Swat] $19, and South Africans $18. For Access, Ghanaians are paying $9.45 cent, Nigerians $2.70, Liberians $8, Angolans $6, Botswana $10, Eswatini [Swat] $9 and South Africans $7.60.”

Sam George added, “In my capacity as Minister, my fidelity is to the Ghanaian people. I have written to the NCA, instructing them to suspend DSTV’s broadcasting licence effective August 7 if they do not comply”.

“Listen to sense” – Asenso-Boakye heckles back NDC Majority in parliament

0

Francis Asenso-Boakye, the former Minister of Roads and Highways, has fired the National Democratic Congress (NDC) majority in parliament to listen to sense and stop heckling him.

Asenso-Boakye was delivering an address surrounding government plans to construct a six-lane expressway on the Accra–Kumasi road.

According to Asenso-Boakye, the Mahama government has abandoned the completion of bypasses that could potentially cut travel time between Accra and Kumasi.

He asserted that the six-lane expressway, totally different from the existing intervention.

Speaking on the floor of parliament on Thursday, July 31, Asenso-Boakye stated, “Mr Speaker, what stops the government from completing these bypasses that will reduce the travel time from Accra to Kumasi by three hours?

However, Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has cooked Asenso Boakye.

He added, Why are you recommending us for that? We are saying that since we do not have a dedicated fund, we are putting that project as an additional burden on the big push, and you don’t like it?

Go Kasoa Winneba, of course, the money has run out, the worst that will happen is that the contractor will leave the site. President Mahama does not want any of those projects to be abandoned. He said, carry it on additionally, Big Push Project, you don’t like that? What are you talking about here?”

The road minister further recounted when he told the former road minister that DHM, which was awarded the motorway to Central University, were not a construction firm but a management firm.

He added, “I heard you talking about the motorway to Central University. Hon former minister, you and I know that when you came to this house to give that contract to DHM, I suggested here that DHM was not a construction firm, was a management firm. It was only last year that the company bought a construction firm, which is why they were struggling to do the road.

“Phase one is what they are struggling to do; phase two is not even an NPP-initiated project. It is not under contract, and we are carrying it on as a Big Push project. You should understand these things”.

Kwame Agbodza further emphasised that the John Mahama-led NDC government are not playing It is not politics with road projects.

“I agree with you, you did your best, but the contractor was not listening to you because maybe you are afraid of them. I say if you are a contractor, Ghanaian or foreign, if you breach our laws, we will deal with you”, he added.

The road minister further clarified that the Big Push project is not only about a road project, but also a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity.

Agbodza added, “Big push is not only the road project that we are doing, I want to say this to all our compatriots around the country, big push is a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity of our regions to our National capital.

The Accra–Kumasi highway remains one of Ghana’s busiest transit roads; however, there is a growing road safety crisis.

Many Ghanaians have been calling on the government to have a look at the road, as it has been a graveyard for many accidents over the years.

Meanwhile, Ghana recently sadly lost 16 young people on the Atwidie–Juaso stretch of the Accra–Kumasi Highway some weeks ago.

In addition, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Ansah Opoku, on the floor of parliament, has called for the immediate dualization of the Praso to Kumasi stretch.

He stated, “Every weekend I travel on that road, and every trip feels like a prayer. Our roads have become death traps. This is a national emergency, and we must treat it as such”.

“This is not just about one accident or one constituency. It is about protecting Ghanaian lives. Road safety is not politics; it is about saving families from needless pain,” Hon. Opoku emphasised.

“It’s not about propaganda or gaslighting, but how Ghanaians feel” – Prof Gyampo on economy

0

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) Prof Ransford Gyampo, has said all the politics of gaslighting and propaganda can be done on the economy, but it is about how ordinary Ghanaians are feeling.

Prof Gyampo recalled that under the former Akufo-Addo government, Ghanaians complained about how things were bad, but the Ghanaian people were told things were good.

He noted that the 2024 election pattern clearly corroborated what the Ghanaians were saying.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points programme on Saturday, August 2, 2025, Prof Gyampo detailed, “We should know that to every coin, there are two sides: the politics of gaslighting and the politics of propaganda. We should know that we can do this in a flexible democracy, but as time goes on, democracy grows, and the people who are the target of gaslighting and propaganda also grow.

At one point in time, when we were saying things were very bad, those in power were saying things were very good, and it was a certain tug of war, but in the election, the discerning Ghanaians gave a certain voting pattern that corroborated what we were saying, that things were very bad”.

He added, “Now that things are also good, or things are improving, we are told nothing is being done, and it is not reflective of anything. I live it to the Ghanaian because at the end of the day, it is not about propaganda or gaslighting, it is about what the Ghanaian feel.

I ask myself if things improve, who benefits? Is it NPP or NDC? Is it Ghanaians who benefit? We all stand to gain, and so my view is that rather than sounding cynical, rather than being pessimistic, the best thing to do as a people pat those who are doing it on the shoulder and to encourage them that continue”.

Prof Gyampo further revealed he asked Ato Forson how he is managing the Ghanaian economy, and he recalled Ato Forson stated he is disciplined, not greedy and has the support of President Mahama.

He added, “When there are gains, we all stand to gain. I went to Ato Forson, and I asked how are you doing this, He said Prof, I am disciplined, I am not greedy, and I have the support of the president this are the three things.

I went to the President, too, and he said Ransford, I know you will deliver, so keep on. My view is that rather than sounding pessimistic, let us rather encourage so that things are done in a manner that will translate into tangible developmental outcomes”.

His comment came after Dr Joshua Zaato, a co-panellist on TV3 Key Point, suggested that Ato Forson’s real challenges will come in the third and fourth years.

Dr Joshua Zaato, a political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, stated Dr Cassiel Ato Forson real test will begin in the third and fourth years.

According to Dr Zaato, every finance minister in their first and second year is able to manage their books well.

Dr Zaato noted that the real test begins in the third and fourth years, whether Ato Forson can maintain his discipline.

He quizzed whether Ato Forson can defy his own government and political party during the election year when the campaign begins.

Also speaking on TV3’s The Key Points programme Dr Joshua Zaato stated, “Every finance minister who comes in runs a very good first year; they all do, they are able to get their books in order, and they are able to do well in the first year. In fact, sometimes they even run a very good second year.

The problems begin, or the real test of a finance minister begins in the third and fourth year, when campaigns are beginning. Can a finance minister defy his own president or his own government in those years to still keep the discipline Joe Jackson was talking about?”

He added, “Can the Finance Minister refuse to spend or refuse to spend a lot of money on projects when he knows that it is not good? I think that is the real test”.

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian cedi has continued its current stability against foreign currencies. The cedi in August is trading at GH¢10.50 to US$1 on the interbank market.

In related news, Ghana’s inflation for June 2025 dropped significantly to 13.7% from 18.4% recorded in May 2025, with the finance minister firmly of the believe Ghana will end 2025 with single-digit inflation.

Ato Forson’s real test will begin in the third and fourth year – Dr Zaato

Dr Joshua Zaato, a political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, has said the current finance minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson real test will begin in the third and fourth years.

According to Dr Zaato, every finance minister in their first and second year is able to manage their books well.

Dr Zaato noted that the real test begins in the third and fourth years, whether Ato Forson can maintain his discipline.

He added, “Can the Finance Minister refuse to spend or refuse to spend a lot of money on projects when he knows that it is not good? I think that is the real test”.

Dr Joshua Zaato, however, attributed the recent stabilisation of the cedi to the achievements of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He asserted that, irrespective of the fundamental reasons contributing to the strengthening of the cedi, it is happening under the NDC, and the party must take credit for it.

“Whether it is luck or not, the appreciation is happening under the NDC; they can take credit for that.”

However, Prof Ransford Gyampo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), has said Ato Forson needs to be encouraged.

He observed that when things go well in the country, every Ghanaian will benefit from it.

According to him, he asked Ato Forson how he is managing the Ghanaian economy, and he revealed he is disciplined, not greedy and has the support of President Mahama.

Prof Ransford Gyampo also on TV3’s The Key Points programme stated, “Now that things are also good, or things are improving, we are told nothing is being done, and it is not reflective of anything. I live it to the Ghanaian because at the end of the day, it is not about propaganda or gaslighting, it is about what the Ghanaian feel.

Meanwhile, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has said he firmly believes Ghana will end 2025 with single-digit inflation.

Ato Forson revealed the country is well ahead of the government’s official projection.

Speaking in an interview on JOY NEWS Thursday, July 24, Ato Forson detailed, “I am of the firm belief that by the end of the year, we will be entering single digits, for a reason”.

“Based on the trajectory, we are now at 13.7%. The Producer Price Inflation, for example, moved from 10-point-something to 5.9% last month. And based on that, I expect that next month inflation will go down, and if it does, then I believe that by the end of December, we should be able to achieve that”.

“As I have said, even though I still maintain the target of 11.9%, I said again in the speech, we’ll be achieving our target ahead of schedule,” he added.

In related news on the Ghanaian economy, the Bank of Ghana decreased its benchmark policy rate by 300 basis points, from 28% to 25%.

Dr Johnson Asiama, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, revealed the cut was due to improved macroeconomic conditions, easing inflation, and appreciation of the cedi.

“People are dying like fowls in Bawku” – Vim Lady tackles Mahama

0

Afia Pokua, commonly known as Vim Lady in the media circle, has tackled President John Dramani Mahama over the ongoing conflicts in Bawku.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has boldly stated that Ghana cannot accept the recent killing of students in school in the ongoing Bawku conflict.

President Mahama articulated that the recent killings undermine the progress made by the Otumfuo-led mediation committee working to restore peace in Bawku..

Speaking at the Jubilee House during a courtesy call by the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Mahama stated, “We cannot accept this current situation where students are shot in school and killed. We can’t accept the current situation where teachers and public officers have all run away from Bawku because they are afraid for their lives,” the President stated.

Mahama added that the military’s role in the area has now shifted from peacekeeping to peace enforcement following his directive.

He added, “That means they are going to be a bit more robust with anybody who is involved in criminality”.

Also, President Mahama, speaking to the Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Yiri, lamented that Bawku, which was once a prosperous commercial centre, is now a pale shadow of itself.

He noted that the conflict has affected the Mamprusi, Kusasi, Moeshies, Hausas, and all other ethnic groups living in the area.

Speaking at the Jubilee House during a visit by a delegation from the Nayiri, John Mahama added, “I cannot speak of peace and development in the North without touching on the situation in Bawku. The protracted conflict in Bawku continues to pose a grave challenge to our national peace and regional harmony.

Bawku, which has always been the booming and prosperous commercial centre, is now a pale shadow of itself. Nobody is happy about this situation. Youth move around on motorcycles with sophisticated assault rifles and fire indiscriminately.

The conflict has affected everyone, Mamprusi, Kusasi, Moeshies, Hausas, and all other ethnic groups living in the area. Many professionals have fled the area, and public service workers are refusing postings to Bawku,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Asantehene,  Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, resumed his mediation efforts between the two factions involved in the ongoing Bawku conflict.

60% of Ghana’s infrastructure was built by Nkrumah in 9 years – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, the former member of parliament for Assin Central, has said 60 per cent of Ghana’s infrastructure was built by Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He has already officially declared his intention to contest again in the NPP flagbearer election slated for 2026.

If you want to succeed, don’t do business with family members – Ken Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a Ghanaian businessman and former member of parliament for Assin Central, has warned young entrepreneurs to avoid doing business with family members.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, if one wants to succeed in Ghana, he or she must not do business with family members except their wife or children.

He noted that family ties can pose dangerous risks to business performance and accountability.

Speaking on the Konnected Minds Podcast, Mr Agyapong stated, “If you want to succeed here, especially in Ghana, don’t rely on your relatives or involve your brothers, sisters, or family members in your business—except maybe your children or wife”.

Mr Agyapong further added that people settle too easily and urged Ghanaians to be willing to do more and work for longer hours.

Mr Agyapong is a successful businessman with a media house, real estate and more. He also finished second in the Super Delegates Conference with 14.30% of the vote, behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who secured 61.47% emerging the winner.

Despite his shortcomings, Kennedy Agyapong’s strong performance demonstrated considerable support within the party.

Kennedy Agyapong, on the Podcast, further shared how he regrets buying over 277 houses in Ghana.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, if he had invested his money in building businesses, he would have had a lot of money.

Mr Agyapong emphasised that a $500,000 property at Cantoment can only be rented for $4000 a month, but doing business with that $500,000 and getting just 10 per cent is better.

He noted that his over 277 houses are a waste as he cannot find people to rent them.

Speaking on the Konnected Minds Podcast, Mr Agyapong detailed, “Let me tell you, when you have a property at Cantoment $500,000, your rent will not be more than $4000 a month, but if you use the $500,000 to do business and you make 10 per cent, I am just drawing your attention.

I have so many people here that I have regretted, some of them I don’t even know, I don’t remember unless I tell my cousin and those things”.

He added, “I have regretted it because if I had invested that money in business, young man, I would have made a lot of money. I have over 277 houses in Ghana, and it is a waste. I have regretted buying those houses because I don’t get people to rent them”.

Mr Agyapong further revealed that he chose not to sell the houses because he wants his kids to inherit them.

“I don’t want to sell, I want to give it to my kids. I have many kids, so I want to share it with them. My plan is, if you are a girl or woman, you marry and your relationship does not work, you come back home, you have your properties, you can dispose of some of them to start a business.

This is how I think aloud, how to help, but in actual fact, if I had invested that amount of money in a business, you know how much I would be making”, Ken Agyapong revealed.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, building one house is okay as a backup in case one’s business collapses; that property can be disposed of to start afresh.

“The house at Cantoment, you can have one that’s okay, no problem, as a security or backup in case your business collapses, your property becomes a fallback that you can dispose of”, Mr Agyapong asserted.

Kennedy Agyapong further recounted an encounter he had with former Black Stars player Sully Muntari. Who asked him whether his business had collapsed before?

He added,  “I think in 1990, I had 11 houses, but I had to sell 6 of them to start life again, houses at Tesano, Achimota. I disposed of all those properties to start life again.

At that time, anybody with the exception of the Real Estate guys building anybody selling his properties means he is broke”.

Meanwhile, some Ghanaians have shared their comments about Kennedy Agyapong’s remarks, “Good advice from Hon. I’m building only 5. Two already complete, three ongoing (under construction). The rest of the money I’m saving for businesses!”.

Another netizen wrote, “Saying you have houses for your female kids to come back to when their marriages don’t work will make them look down on their husbands. “After all, I have a property, so you can’t control me” It’s good to leave property for your kids, but the reason naaa”.

One more netizen wrote, “This doesn’t make sense to me. Real estate is a booming business; he’s admitted he intentionally doesn’t sell his houses because he wants his kids to inherit them, and yet he’s complaining? In economics, there’s opportunity cost, and you can’t eat your cake and have it!”.

Additionally, another social media user wrote, “Like I’ve always been saying, some landlords see the rental market as a get-rich scheme so they resort to increasing rent crazily. It takes a long period to recoup your money, factoring in sinking funds for maintenance. It’s a good hedge against inflation”.

Sam George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, has jabbed the former Akufo-Addo government over the hyped of 5G services launched by Next-Gen.

According to Sam George, the Akufo-Addo government’s claim of 5G was just a smoke screen and gaslighting.

He boldly asserted that Ghana has no 5G service in the country.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on August 1, 2025, Sam George stated, “We have no 5G service in the country. The previous government’s claim of 5G was just a smoke screen and gaslighting”.

“Let’s just say it was a smokescreen and voicemail. There was actually no fact. Even that day at the centre where they launched, there was no 5G network, and there’s no 5G anywhere. If there were 5G, I haven’t directed the NCA or NGIC to turn off any 5G site; we would have seen it.”

Sam George further revealed that Next-Gen Infrastructure Company (NGIC) has received all the necessary approvals, but he declined their request for an additional licence for ISPs.

He noted, “NGIC have received all the necessary approvals; in fact, last two weeks, I gave the final connecting entity license approval for MNOs. They are asking for an additional licence for ISPs, which I have declined.”

“You have a license and have had it for almost three years. At the very least, I have given you the authority and regulatory approval to connect with MNOs. Focus on that and roll out with MNOs.”

He indicated, “Failure by NGIC to roll out full commercial activity by the end of quarter four this year will lead to me terminating the terms of that contract, taking away the exclusivity clause and opening up for fresh negotiations.”

It will be recalled, former Communications and Digitalisation minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful fired shots at Ghanaians, questioning the 5G service availability on their phones.

Speaking to the media before President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nations Address (SONA), Ursula stated, “People didn’t listen when we were launching it, it is a wholesale infrastructure, we have built it, it is now up to the telecom companies to buy capacity from it and deliver it on to their subscribers.

“I have done my part; the rest of it is left with the TELCOs and NGIs, I know I have delivered on my mandate”, she boldly added.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful advised Ghanaian mobile network users to hold their service providers accountable for failing to launch the 5G network by 31 December this year.

Meanwhile, Vice-President IMANI Africa, Bright Simons, has stated that the shady 5G monopoly mess by the former Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and Next Gen Infraco must be scrapped.

He noted that the monopoly mess, with shady owners, needs to be scrapped and a better model of pushing 5G adoption.

According to Bright Simons, there have been detailed analyses presented as to why that whole 5G gig with the Next Gen Infraco is a big scam.

He stated, “The prominent international shareholders that were publicly announced turned out NOT to be shareholders at all. Their brands were used to promote a clear SCAM.

The whole concept of the 5G project doesn’t make sense. The claim is that when we allowed the telcos to invest on their own to upgrade from 2G to 3G and then to 4G, the biggest telcos seized a large share of the market. So this time, telcos will be forced to buy 5G capacity from a shady monopoly instead. How does that stop any telco from maintaining its monopoly? How?

This whole monopoly mess, with shady owners, needs to be scrapped and a better model of pushing 5G adoption. Simples”, he added.

Lack of competition law fuelling DSTV exploitation – CUTS Int’l

0

Appiah Kusi Adomako, the West African Regional Director of CUTS International, has said the lack of competition law is fuelling DSTV’s exploitation of Ghanaian customers.

He asserted that the government must urgently pass a national competition law to tackle monopoly.

According to Appiah Kusi Adomako, the lack of competitors has allowed the operators of DSTV MultiChoice to operate without effective regulatory checks at the disadvantage of Ghanaian consumers.

Speaking to this in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, Adomako stated, “As a country, if we want to reduce such a dominant monopoly, I think that we need to come up with a competition law. By competition law, I am sure we will be able to address most of these issues.”

He lamented, “Of course, we have had this draft bill hanging over the Ministry of Trade for the past 18 years, and it’s never gone to Parliament. We hope that once Ghana is able to put it before Parliament, we can get some of these things destroyed.”

His comments come on the heels of Sam Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, who has told DSTV that the mistreatment of the Ghanaian consumer is enough.

Sam George compared the prices of DSTV subscription packages between Ghana and other African countries like Nigeria, South Africa, and others.

He noted that Ghana’s Premium bouquet sells for the equivalent of US$83 while as same bouquet in Nigeria sells for US$29.

According to Sam George, DSTV price disparity cannot be explained by anyone.

In addition, Samuel Nartey George also revealed MultiChoice-owned DSTV broadcast license will be suspended if they fail to reduce prices downward.

According to Sam George, his directive follows DSTV’s refusal to reduce its prices after the recent cedi appreciation.

He revealed MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

Speaking during the Government ministerial briefing on Friday, August 1, Sam George stated, “In my capacity as Minister, my fidelity is to the Ghanaian people. I have written to the NCA, instructing them to suspend DSTV’s broadcasting licence effective August 7 if they do not comply,” Mr George stated.

Sam George had earlier pledged to Ghanaians, vowing to secure a reduction in DSTV subscription prices.

However, following the meeting, DSTV has failed to reduce its prices.

Sam George revealed, DSTV, in its response, emphasised that the cedi had depreciated by over 200% over the last eight years, and the recent gains were not justifiable for a price reduction.

He added, “DSTV claims the Ghanaian Cedi has depreciated by over 200% in the last eight years, and therefore, they cannot reduce their prices. My fidelity lies with the Ghanaian people. They have been cheated for years, and it is time we put an end to that.

We will not allow foreign service providers to take advantage of our citizens under the guise of economic pressures”, he boldly asserted.

NPP has a fighting chance if they choose me – Kennedy Agyapong

0

Kennedy Agyapong, a former Assin Central lawmaker and NPP presidential aspirant hopeful, has said the New Patriotic Party has a fighting chance in the 2028 elections if the party chooses him as the flagbearer.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, he is the NPP’s best bet to win the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He boldly emphasised that he is going to beat the NDC hands down if voted as the NPP presidential candidate.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Pan African Television, Kennedy Agyapong stated, “The party has a fighting chance, but it depends on the candidate they choose.

Kennedy Agyapong added, “Ghana is the centre of the world, and we don’t have a hotel with the name Centre of the World to attract tourists. We are going to build a hotel in the sea. It is possible. I’ve seen it work elsewhere, and therefore it is going to work”.

Kennedy Agyapong further explained why he chose to stay silent during the peak of last year’s campaign season and also discussed his decision to apologise to President Mahama for some of the criticisms he had previously made against him.

Kennedy Agyapong added, “That’s the truth, we stepped on so many toes, they show some videos about Kennedy Agyapong, he said this, he is not presidential material if they are not being diabolical, and you listen carefully, it was advice I was giving them and criticising some bad deeds of the party people.

But now they use it against me. During the campaign, I have been quiet because they wrote ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, that’s why I apologise to President Mahama because he has been very nice to me, he loves me and everything, but because of the party, I ignore this relationship and criticise him”.

He added, “I have to be honest, I was harsh only for me when I was criticising the NDC, my party was happy, but when I decided to contest was the time they used all the things I said against me”.

The NPP 2026 primaries are heating up with the main front-runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has entered the NPP’s flagbearership race. Abronye has also hinted at his desire to enter the race.

River Guards arrest 1 galamseyer, 7 others bolt at Dawurapong

0

The River Guards have arrested an illegal small-scale miner commonly known as a galamseyer at the Dawurapong, with seven others bolting.

The information gathered reveals that the Bogoso River Guards arrested the galamseyer in the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.

Allan Acheampong, the leader of the Bogoso River Guard, revealed that they found eight galamseyers operating at the tributaries of River Mansi, with seven escaping as they managed to arrest one.

It will be recalled that the Mahama government deployed some 456 Blue River Guards, specifically trained by the Ghana Navy.

The Guards are to protect and monitor water bodies in mining areas affected by illegal mining activities.

According to the Land Minister, Emmanuel Armarh Kofi Buah, the guards are to serve as the ears and eyes of the Security Forces.

Meanwhile, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, a member of Parliament for Assin South in parliament accused the River Guards of abandoning their jobs and now turning themselves into TikTok content creators.

According to him, the government, instead of deploying the Police and Military, are sending River guards who are now creating content on TikTok.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on July 30, 2025, Ntim Fordjour stated, “… Today, galamsey has evolved from being an environmental threat into a criminal enterprise with apparatchiks of the ruling government NDC scrambling for sites,” he said.

“Mr Speaker, galamsey, which our brothers on the other side went around various rivers and fetched water in bottles.

Today, they are not able to go and fetch bottles because of the turbidity of those rivers; they may have to use a shovel to fetch the water and put in the caps,” he asserted.

He added, “And yet, when the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces were asking for adequate budgetary allocation to be able to go and fight head-on, they chose to starve the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, and to appoint river guards.

River guards with no weapons, always doing all kinds of content on TikTok. That is the result of this government, and that is an indication of their lack of commitment to addressing this matter,” he said.

Adom-Otchere has not been charged – Lawyer

0

Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the lawyer for the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has revealed his client has not been officially charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to the lawyer, his client was only cautioned, with no specific charges filed under Ghanaian criminal law.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News August 1, 2025, Paul Adom-Otchere, a lawyer, stated, “As I speak to you, he has not been officially charged by the OSP. He has been cautioned and informed that the OSP is investigating suspected offences.

So, as we speak, Mr. Adom-Otchere has not been charged with any specific offence known to our criminal laws”.

Paul Adom Otchere has since been released from the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s custody after meeting bail conditions.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) announced that they have accepted the revised bail conditions proposed by Paul Adom Otchere’s legal team.

According to the OSP statement on X, the revised bail conditions meet the objectives of the original bail conditions.

The OSP added that Jospong Group of Companies is acting as surety for Paul Adom-Otchere.

However, Sammy Darko Appiah, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has revealed that Paul Adom-Otchere is a key suspect in the OSP’s ongoing investigation into the GACL revenue.

According to Sammy Darko, the OSP has come across evidence that directly points to certain actions of Adom-Otchere as a board chairman that falls in line with the offences.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day, Friday, August 1, 2025, Sammy Darko detailed, “The OSP has set the bail terms, Mr Adom Otchere has not been able to meet the bail terms. Mr. Adom Otchere was invited to come to the OSP not as person of interest, he was invited to come as a suspect.

“He put out a letter, and those who have read the letter would see that the letter was directing him to come as a suspect because he is a key suspect in the investigation,” he stated.

“As far as the OSP is concerned, we have come across evidence that directly points to certain actions of Mr. Adom-Otchere as a board chairman that fall in line with the offences that we are allowed to investigate, and that is what we are investigating,” he added.

Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, justified the bail conditions set for former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere.

According to Kissi Agyebeng, the landed bail condition was set to encourage the suspect to show up and not run.

Kissi Agyebeng revealed that if the suspect claims he does not have any landed property, any property found in his name can be confiscated by the State.
