Jospong Group acts as surety for Paul Adom-Otchere – OSP

0

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that they have accepted the revised bail conditions proposed by Paul Adom Otchere’s legal team.

According to the OSP statement on X, the revised bail conditions meet the objectives of the original bail conditions.

The OSP added that Jospong Group of Companies is acting as surety for Paul Adom-Otchere.

In a post on X, the OSP wrote, “The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has accepted revised bail conditions proposed by legal counsel for Mr. Paul Adom-Otchere, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

The revised terms, which meet the objectives of the original bail conditions, have been secured by the Jospong Group of Companies, acting as surety.

The matter remains under active investigation by the OSP”.

Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the legal counsel for Paul Adom-Otchere, slammed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over their bail conditions for their client.

According to Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the OSP bail condition is very unreasonable.

Adom-Otchere’s legal counsel revealed his client had already informed the OSP that he does not own any landed property, but went on to set two landed properties in his name as bail conditions.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, July 31, Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei detailed, “It is unreasonable in the context of bail to require an accused person to produce properties in his own name. What the OSP is essentially saying is that persons who lack property or are poor people in this country cannot make bail in this country.”

“The shocking fact is that while taking the profile of the suspect, the suspect indicated that he does not own any landed property, and so for the OSP to set two landed properties in his name, precedent for his bail condition, it is essentially concluding to hang him and detain him. We find the bail condition very unreasonable,” he stated.

He added, “We will explore all legal avenues to ensure that Mr. Adom-Otchere is freed”.

Adom Otchere lawyer, further revealed that they do not know the whereabouts of their client.

Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei added, “As I speak, I’m unable to say for a fact where our client is, except to mention that he’s been moved from the Office of the Special Prosecutor. We are getting conflicting reports as to his location.

“We’ve been to the National Security Head Office, and we’ve been informed he’s not there. And so we are still making frantic efforts to locate specifically where he’s been taken to,” he said.

However, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, had earlier justified the bail conditions set for former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere.

According to Kissi Agyebeng, the landed bail condition was set to encourage the suspect to show up and not run.

Kissi Agyebeng revealed that if the suspect claims he does not have any landed property, any property found in his name can be confiscated by the State.

Speaking during a meeting,  Kissi Agyebeng stated, “The OSP has a suspect, and you say you do not have any landed property, which means you can bail yourself out if you do not have any landed property.

We will fix a value on it, and bring what you have, and it is also to encourage you not to run because if you run away, that property will be confiscated. So, it is to encourage you to show up”.

He added, “If you do not do that and you say, you do not have anything, you have placed yourself in a state where anything the State finds in your name is confiscated”.

When I criticised NDC, NPP was happy, when I decided to contest, they used it against me – Ken Agyapong

0

Ken Agyapong, a former Assin Central lawmaker and NPP presidential aspirant hopeful, has said that when he was criticising President John Mahama and the NDC, his party was happy.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, his own party used his own utterances against him when he decided to contest.

Speaking in an interview with a veteran Journalist, Kwesi Pratt Jr, Kennedy Agyapong explains why he chose to stay silent during the peak of last year’s campaign season and also discusses his decision to apologise to President Mahama for some of the criticisms he had previously made against him.

Kennedy Agyapong stated, “That’s the truth, we stepped on so many toes, they show some videos about Kennedy Agyapong, he said this, he is not presidential material if they are not being diabolical, and you listen carefully, it was advice I was giving them and criticising some bad deeds of the party people.

But now they use it against me. During the campaign, I have been quiet because they wrote ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, that’s why I apologise to President Mahama because he has been very nice to me, he loves me and everything, but because of the party, I ignore this relationship and criticise him”.

He added, “I have to be honest, I was harsh only for me when I was criticising the NDC, my party was happy, but when I decided to contest was the time they used all the things I said against me”.

Kennedy Agyapong revealed that he has become quiet because he does not want his party to have another sin added to his ten list of sins.

He revealed, “All the things I used to defend NDC became a sin, and they circle around ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong. So now I am quite my argument is that in the Bible, they have the ten Commandments, and since Abraham’s times, they have not added one to it for it to be eleven.

So, the Ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong, I will not go and say anything for you to add number eleven or twelve, that is why I am quiet”.

Meanwhile, in a related story, Bernard ElBernard Nelson-Eshun, a Ghanaian preacher and prophet, has reiterated that Kennedy Agyapong will become the next flagbearer of the NPP.

The Prophet revealed he had a vision on July 20th, 2025, showing a journey of two men travelling toward the same destination on different roads.

The man of God recounted that one was followed by a huge convoy in golden vehicles on a smooth and impressive road, while the other travelled on a dusty road in an old car.

Prophet Bernard ElBernard Nelson-Eshun stated, “What you have seen is a shadow of things to come”.

“Kennedy Agyapong shall become the flagbearer of his party. His path may seem slow and unglamorous, but it is ordained”, he boldly declared.

He further revealed his vision warned those who rely on numbers, influence, and appearance will ultimately fall,  saying, “trusted in flesh and not in the counsel of the Lord.”

Also, the NPP officially opened nominations for presidential primaries, setting nomination forms at GH¢ 100,000 and a filing fee at GH¢ 500,000.

The NPP primaries have heated up with the main front runners for the NPP’s flagbearer position, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and former Minister for Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has also entered the NPP’s flagbearership race, with Abronye also hinting at his desire to enter the race.

Watch – Kissi Agyebeng justifies bail conditions set for Paul Adom-Otchere

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has justified the bail conditions set for former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere.

He added, “If you do not do that and you say, you do not have anything, you have placed yourself in a state where anything the State finds in your name is confiscated”.

The OSP comments come on the heels of Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the legal counsel for Paul Adom-Otchere, slamming the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over their bail conditions for their client.

According to Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the OSP bail condition is very unreasonable.

Adom-Otchere’s legal counsel revealed his client had already informed the OSP that he does not own any landed property, but went on to set two landed properties in his name as bail conditions.

Meanwhile, Sammy Darko Appiah, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has revealed that Paul Adom-Otchere is a key suspect in the OSP’s ongoing investigation.

According to Sammy Darko, the OSP has come across evidence that directly points to certain actions of Adom-Otchere as a board chairman that fall in line with the offences.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day, Friday, August 1, 2025, Sammy Darko detailed, “The OSP has set the bail terms, Mr. Adom Otchere has not been able to meet the bail terms. Mr. Adom Otchere was invited to come to the OSP not as person of interest, he was invited to come as a suspect.

“He put out a letter, and those who have read the letter would see that the letter was directing him to come as a suspect because he is a key suspect in the investigation,” he stated.

“As far as the OSP is concerned, we have come across evidence that directly points to certain actions of Mr. Adom-Otchere as a board chairman that fall in line with the offences that we are allowed to investigate, and that is what we are investigating,” he added.

Big Push projects to be completed in 24 months – Road Minister

0

Governs Kwame Agbodza, the minister of Roads and Highways, has said the John Mahama-led Big Push projects will be completed in twenty-four months.

The roads minister revealed that the Big Push road projects have been deliberately structured to span two years.

According to Agbodza, under the reset agenda, if there’s any evidence of a three-month delay by a contractor, they will write it into the contract and terminate it.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Agbodza detailed, “The average Ghanaian has come to accept something that is completely unacceptable, because they see road projects start around their backyard, and no one can tell them when it will be completed. We want to reset. ‘Reset’ means we need to change that narrative”.

“All the projects have been deliberately structured to span two years, 24 months, and we will not go beyond that. Sometimes, a contractor is awarded 100 kilometres of road. People forget that constructing 100 kilometres is not a small undertaking.

There may be people who are more interested in how much it costs — they focus on the money involved. So contractors take the job, and for seven or eight years, they do nothing. We want to avoid that”, he added.

The road minister emphasised that the project will go strictly with its timeline of completion, “From now on, Big Push — which is something we needed like yesterday — will work differently. When we award you 20 kilometres of road and say complete it in 24 months, we expect you to finish ahead of schedule.

If there’s any evidence of a three-month delay, we’ll write it into the contract: we terminate. We are not going to wait. If you like, go to court.

“No contractor is compelled to participate in Big Push, but if you do, you must be prepared to work 24/7. You must be ready to deliver within 12 months unless something extremely unforeseen happens, and we’ll be the ones to determine that.”

Governs Kwame Agbodza further revealed that there is a lack of effective supervision of road projects, as some project expected to last 15 years fails within 6 months.

The road minister added, “Another problem we’ve noticed is the lack of effective supervision, either by third-party service providers like consultants or by our own staff from the various agencies.

There is evidence that most of them did not perform the way they should. For instance, a road is built that’s supposed to last 15 years, and it fails in six months, then we have to look for more money to fix it again. That cannot continue”.

Agbodza warned that contractors who want to participate in any activity at the Ministry must demonstrate technical capability.

He asserted, “You must take the appropriate steps, including securing the right insurance. The days when a contractor gets an insurance firm to issue a piece of paper, thinking we’ll never cash it when things go wrong, are over. Let me remind you, this time around, we’ll be very happy to cash it”.

The road minister further clarified that the Big Push project is not only about a road project, but also a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity.

Paul Adom-Otchere, a key suspect in the ongoing investigation – OSP

0

Sammy Darko Appiah, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has revealed that the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, is a key suspect in the OSP’s ongoing investigation.

The OSP had earlier invited Paul Adom-Otchere to report to their office on Thursday, July 31.

The former board Chairman of the GACL reported and interviewed together with Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive, Commercial Services, GACL and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea, CEO of Devnest Systems.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) later announced that they had detained Paul Adom-Otchere after he failed to meet the bail condition, as he claimed he did not own any landed property in Ghana.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor in a post on X yesterday, July 31, 2025, stated, “The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has interviewed and formally charged the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, Paul Adom-Otchere and two others. However, Mr Adom-Otchere has so far been unable to meet his bail conditions.

He is required to present two landed properties (of no specific value) registered in his name. However, he has informed the OSP that he does not own landed property in Ghana. As a result, he remains in custody until the bail terms are satisfied”.

“The two other persons are Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive, Commercial Services, GACL, An Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea, CEO of Devnest Systems”.

The OSP further revealed details of their investigation against Paul Adom Otchere.

According to Adom Otchere is under investigation in connection with a revenue assurance contract between GACL and a private firm.

They added, “Mr Adom-Otchere is under investigation in connection with a revenue assurance contract between the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and a private firm owned by the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML). The OSP is examining possible procurement breaches, including a sole-sourced contract awarded to a company other than the one approved by the GACL Board”.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the legal counsel for Paul Adom-Otchere, has slammed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over their bail conditions for their client.

DSTV license to be suspended if they fail to reduce prices – Sam George

0

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, has revealed MultiChoice-owned DSTV broadcast license will be suspended if they fail to reduce prices downward.

According to Sam George, his directive follows DSTV’s refusal to reduce its prices after the recent cedi appreciation.

Sam George revealed MultiChoice broadcast license will be suspended by the National Communications Authority (NCA) if they fail to reduce subscription prices by August 7, 2025.

Speaking during the Government ministerial briefing on Friday, August 1, Sam George stated, “In my capacity as Minister, my fidelity is to the Ghanaian people. I have written to the NCA, instructing them to suspend DSTV’s broadcasting licence effective August 7 if they do not comply,” Mr George stated.

Sam George had earlier pledged to Ghanaians, vowing to secure a reduction in DSTV subscription prices.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, July 3, during a briefing on developments within the communications sector, Sam George stated, “The meeting addressed public concerns about affordability, value for money and fairness and service delivery. I made it clear the ministry’s expectation.

The pricing structures must be responsive to Ghana’s economic context. I have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow with the Ghana team and their South African counterpart to agree on a way forward on the issues raised.

“The outcomes will be shared with the public in due course. This engagement reflects our commitment to regulatory accountability and our resolve to ensure that digital services in Ghana remain fair, accessible and responsive to the needs of citizens.

I make you one promise, I won’t leave tomorrow’s meeting without securing a drop in the pricing of DSTV. That is a solemn promise I make to you,” he stated.

However, following the meeting, DSTV has failed to reduce its prices.

Sam George revealed, DSTV, in its response, emphasised that the cedi had depreciated by over 200% over the last eight years, and the recent gains were not justifiable for a price reduction.

He added, “DSTV claims the Ghanaian Cedi has depreciated by over 200% in the last eight years, and therefore, they cannot reduce their prices. My fidelity lies with the Ghanaian people. They have been cheated for years, and it is time we put an end to that.

We will not allow foreign service providers to take advantage of our citizens under the guise of economic pressures”, he boldly asserted.

CJ Torkornoo will lose all entitlements if she loses her case – Kpebu

0

Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner, has said the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, will lose all her retirement entitlements if she loses her case.

The Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is currently the subject of impeachment proceedings under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

According to Martin Kpebu, the Article 146 proceedings CJ Torkornoo is facing is she loses will tarnish her record and her family as well.

Speaking on the matter on JoyNews on July 31, 2025, Kpebu explained, “This Article 146 proceedings she’s facing, if she loses the case, it means that her record is tarnished. Can you imagine her family, her children, her record is tarnished.

“And besides, she will lose her entitlement because that is misconduct. When you look at Article 146, it’s misconduct. And you see, usually in our employment law, when a person is dismissed from office because of misconduct, that person loses entitlement,” he added.

Kpebu added, “And so, it means that by her position, Chief Justice Torkornoo would have retired on her salary, entitled to security, entertainment, et cetera. All those things she won’t get if she loses this case. So, I’m thinking that, perhaps, if she’s allowed to resign and then she can go with these benefits, it will help the whole nation.”

The private legal practitioner noted that the avenue of resignation is not available to the suspended Chief Justice, but she could implore senior statesmen to negotiate with the president on her behalf.

Kpebu suggested, “… Perhaps that avenue to resign is not available to her that’s why you see that she’s going nine miles. So, in this context, I once again implore our senior statesmen to come together and then perhaps approach her. If she consents, then they will approach the president and the other stakeholders so that they negotiate something for her to go, so that she resigns… I think a political settlement where she exits in a dignified manner is better”.

“That would help us because right now, it appears looking at our state of development, we are not quite there,” he continued.

“The matters she’s thrown out have forced certain conversations that ordinarily we wouldn’t have. You see, she raised issues of bribery, issues of nepotism, issues of political influence, matters that we usually hesitate to hold frankly in the no-holds-barred fashion. These are matters that, when it comes to the judiciary, we are coy, shy about them. But I see that she’s forced the conversation,” he added.

Moving on, the Accra High Court yesterday, July 31, threw out Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s application for judicial review.

Reports suggest the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court described the suspended Chief Justice’s review request as an abuse of court processes, asserting that it lacks jurisdiction.

This was another legal blow after three separate injunction applications previously filed at the Supreme Court were also thrown away.

Meanwhile, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo filed another case at the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria.

She accused President John Dramani Mahama of failing to specify the claims in the petitions for her removal.

According to the details of the lawsuit, she is seeking ten reliefs from the ECOWAS Court, including $10 million in compensation for moral and reputational damages suffered by the Applicant as a result of her illegal suspension and unfair investigation.

What is your problem? – Road minister ‘cooks’ minority on Big Push projects

0

Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways, has cooked the NPP minority caucus in parliament over their presentation of supposed shortcomings in the government’s Big Push Agenda.

Hon Agbodza expressed frustration with the minority of their constant criticism and opposition to the initiative, despite the government’s renewed commitment and significant efforts to complete stalled projects started under the Akufo-Addo Bawumia administration.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Governs Kwame Agbodza stated, “What is your problem? We said we are completing and expanding roads, what is wrong with that? Let’s come to Accra. I agree that the exit and entry points are very bad.

The Ofankor road, as of the time you were leaving office, the contractor had raised a certificate of about $77 million you didn’t pay him you left. Now people are doing a demonstration just this week, we paid that contractor about GHC300 million so that he can continue the work”.

He added, Why are you recommending us for that? We are saying that since we do not have a dedicated fund, we are putting that project as an additional burden on the big push, and you don’t like it?

Go Kasoa Winneba, of course, the money has run out, the worst that will happen is that the contractor will leave the site. President Mahama does not want any of those projects to be abandoned. He said, carry it on additionally, Big Push Project, you don’t like that? What are you talking about here?”

The road minister further recounted when he told the former road minister that DHM, which was awarded the motorway to Central University, were not a construction firm but a management firm.

He added, “I heard you talking about the motorway to Central University. Hon former minister, you and I know that when you came to this house to give that contract to DHM, I suggested here that DHM was not a construction firm, was a management firm. It was only last year that the company bought a construction firm, which is why they were struggling to do the road.

“Phase one is what they are struggling to do; phase two is not even an NPP-initiated project. It is not under contract, and we are carrying it on as a Big Push project. You should understand these things”.

Kwame Agbodza further emphasised that the John Mahama-led NDC government are not playing It is not politics with road projects.

“I agree with you, you did your best, but the contractor was not listening to you because maybe you are afraid of them. I say if you are a contractor, Ghanaian or foreign, if you breach our laws, we will deal with you”, he added.

The road minister further clarified that the Big Push project is not only about a road project, but also a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity.

Agbodza added, “Big push is not only the road project that we are doing, I want to say this to all our compatriots around the country, big push is a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity of our regions to our National capital.

Meanwhile, Governs Kwame Agbodza has revealed government will sign 31 major road contracts by the end of August 2025.

The roads minister revealed that the road contract will have strict timelines and penalties in place to prevent delays.

According to the road minister commencement certificate has been obtained for all the projects.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Agbodza added, “The commencement certificate has been obtained, and we are now in the procurement process to get these contractors to the site. The contract is two years, that is, 24 months from start to finish and handing over”.

“Unlike the past, we are writing into the contract that if you delay for three months without any justification, we will terminate the work immediately without further notice. In the contract, they are going to work 24/7, so you are not compelled to take these projects if you have issues with them,” he stated.

Level 100 UDS student sentenced to life imprisonment

0

Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen, a level 100 student of Computer Science at the University for Development Studies, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Tamale High Court.

According to reports, 19-year-old Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen was sentenced to life imprisonment after killing a colleague during a dispute over a girlfriend.

The convict was facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder of his colleague, Wumpini Mohammed Zakiu, over a girlfriend in 2024.

Salifu Nkonya Nurudeen was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the death of his colleague.

The deceased, Mohammed Zakiu, reportedly died on Wednesday, September 25, after being allegedly stabbed in the chest at the University campus.

Reports suggest his lifeless body was found on Thursday, September 26, on the University Campus after several attempts to reach him on the phone proved futile.

Initial reports suggest the possibility of an armed robbery, as his phone and motorcycle were missing from the scene; however, accounts from his family indicate that his valuables were found intact, raising suspicion that it may be a targeted killing rather than a robbery.

Christopher Amoako, 3FM’s Northern Regional correspondent, speaking on the issue, detailed, “The case has been in court, and today the Tamale High Court ruled on the particular case and convicted the accused to life imprisonment. It was a sad moment in court because the young man was convicted to life imprisonment.

The presiding Judge said his action was in bad taste and caused the loss of a life, and so he should go to prison for life”.

Christopher Amoako further recounted the story, “ He stabbed his colleague, who was also a student of the  University for Development Studies, over issues of a girlfriend; the gentleman died in September last year. The family of the deceased called for justice when he killed the deceased.

He took the motorbike, his purse and other things. Later, those items were found on the school campus, and the convict was arrested, and today he has been sentenced to life imprisonment”.

NDC can take any seat in the Ashanti Region – Asiedu Nketia

0

Asiedu Nketia, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has boldly declared that the party can take any seat in the Ashanti Region.

According to Asiedu Nketia, the politics of a stronghold is gradually fading away.

Asiedu Nketia revealed that the NPP in the Ashanti Region succeeded on misinformation, and most of the radio stations that defended the NDC were dealt with.

Speaking in an interview on Ambassador TV, Asiedu Nketia detailed, “A lesson politicians have to learn is that if you are doing something and Ghanaians are silent, it is not because they are afraid of you. They will look at you, but when they get fed up with what you’re doing, they will drag you out”.

“The other lesson that both parties have learned is that the voters are not your sole preserve. The stronghold of politics is gradually fading out. What I saw in the Ashanti region is that the NPP thrived on misinformation, and so most of the radio stations in the region which defended the NDC were dealt with in the region.

All the stations were pushing the NPP agenda. They were using history and misinformation in the Ashanti Region, but this year, we collapsed that, and it did not work for them,” he disclosed while speaking to Ambassador TV.

“We have learnt lessons that seats in the Ashanti region are not the sole preserve of NPP. We now know that we can take any seat in the Ashanti Region,” he said.

Asiedu Nketia further urged the NPP not to change Afenyo-Markin as their leader in Parliament.

According to Asiedu Nketia, Afenyo Markin is making a significant contribution to the NDC’s course for the 2028 election.

He noted that the minority leader’s actions in Parliament and out of Parliament continue to sink the NPP deeper.

Asiedu Nketia added, “I have to commend the NPP for keeping Afenyo Markin as their leader in Parliament. They should not change him because he is making a significant contribution to our course.

He now serves as a campaign manager for the NDC, and his continuous existence in that position will offer the 2028 elections to the NDC on a silver platter,” he added.

In a related story, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah broke his silence on rumoured presidential ambition.

According to him, no serious politician rules out any position.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Asideu Nketia stated, “No serious politician rules out any position. It’s known that it is ambition that drives politics.

And if you rush to rule things out, you get to a point where you’ll be at a corner where you regret having ruled out certain positions”.

He added, “If I want to demonstrate with my own life. To begin with, I never dreamt of going to Parliament. I was a trained business guy, and I was a marketing manager, bank manager, a stockbroker and so on.

“So, the thought of going to Parliament never crossed my mind at all until pressure began mounting from my own people that you have to do this, you have to represent our community to do this work.

Then you say, okay, let me do it for one year or one term and then go and do something else. Then you do it and everybody says, you have done it so well that without you, we can’t get a good replacement, so continue… I never planned to go to Parliament at all,” he said.

DDEP was a painful decision; we are sorry – Minority begs Ghanaians

0

The minority in parliament has asked for forgiveness from Ghanaians after the introduction of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) under the former NPP government.

It will be recalled that the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government introduced the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) as part of its plans to deal with Ghana’s severe fiscal crisis.

The DDEP left many Ghanaians, notably pensioners, enduring considerable financial losses due to haircuts on their investments.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review on Thursday, July 31, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “The NPP devised solutions: the Energy Sector Levy Act to systematically pay down energy liability, the Fiscal Responsibility Law, capping the deficit at 5% of GDP, and the Debt Exchange to restore sustainability”.

“These are actions of a responsible government, and we are proud that we took these decisions, not reckless ones. Again, we take responsibility, we say sorry to Ghanaians, we had to take a painful decision [DDEP] to implement this,” he said.

According to Afenyo Markin, the current NDC government is benefiting from the NPP’s legacy of stabilising Ghana’s grave economic situation without giving credit to the Akufo-Addo government.

The minority leader added, “You’re taking advantage of this painful decision without giving credit to us. Who is a hypocrite in this matter? You are the one found wanting, and indeed, you are the political naysayers; you engage in double standards and engage in political hypocrisy.

“The NPP cleaned up a grave situation, and now the new administration touts the clean-up floor as if it were their own accomplishment. What have you put in place? None,” he critiqued.

However, Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, a renowned US-based Ghanaian lawyer and scholar, some months ago blew an alarm on Article 71 beneficiaries.

According to Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, Article 71 beneficiaries were quietly awarded backdated raises whilst the ordinary Ghanaians and pensioners were facing the Domestic Debt Exchange programme (DDEP).

He asserted that while citizens and pensioners were forced to tighten their belts, heads of Independent Governance Bodies and other Article 71 quietly awarded backdated raises.

Stephen Kwaku Asare further dropped a bombshell on how salaries of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), the Auditor-General’s Department and other heads of Independent Governance Bodies (IGBs) increased in four years.

In a Facebook post, on 20 May 2025, he detailed, “Total increase from 2020 to 2024? About 81%. Now, compare that to: Cedi depreciation (2020–2024): ~50–60%; Real wage growth: basically zero or negative for many Ghanaians; Debt restructuring for ordinary citizens: haircuts on bonds, pensions, and savings.

“While citizens and pensioners were forced to ‘share the burden’ and ‘tighten belts,’ IGBs and surely other Article 71 beneficiaries were quietly awarded backdated raises,”

“They get salary arrears, we get austerity. They get ‘adjusted emoluments’, we get emergency levies,” he added.

NPP don’t have the moral audacity to criticise NDC after DDEP – Solomon Owusu

0

Solomon Owusu, a leading member of the Movement for Change, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has no moral audacity to criticise the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led government on the Ghanaian economy.

According to Solomon Owusu, when the former NPP government came into office, Ghana was not experiencing the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

He recounted that the DDEP caused the former Chief Justice Sohphia Akufo to describe the NPP government as having a pin brain.

Speaking on TV3 New Day, Solomon Owusu stated, “When they came, where we were experiencing DDEP, in fact, it was the DDEP that caused the former Chief Justice Sohphia Akufo to go into her lexicon to bring a certain word called pin brain (Adwene no sua), the woman told them.

As a pensioner, I gave my money to you, only for you to tell me you were not in a position to pay me. We have experienced this pin brain. This DDEP caused a lot of people to die in this country. They should not annoy us; they should let us be free in the system”.

Solomon Owusu asserted that when Ghanaians were telling the former NPP government under Akufo-Addo, the DDEP was wrong, they told Ghanaians they were doing the right things.

He added, “We have to criticise at the time we were telling them what they were doing was not right, they were telling us they were doing what was right. They have no moral right to be criticising. It is the movement for change, and other Ghanaians, you saw the need to criticise them, do this that have the audacity to criticise and not those who defended only yesterday to turn around and come and tell us that it is our action that has led to a stabilised economy.

We are not going to accept that; we must shun this; every Ghanaian must shun this business of trying to deceive the minds. This is what they call it: deception of the mind, and that is what brings you politics”.

Meanwhile, the minority in parliament have apologised to Ghanaians for the implementation of the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

According to Afenyo Markin, the DDEP was a painful decision, as the NPP devised solutions to Ghana’s economic crisis.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review on Thursday, July 31, Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated, “The NPP devised solutions: the Energy Sector Levy Act to systematically pay down energy liability, the Fiscal Responsibility Law, capping the deficit at 5% of GDP, and the Debt Exchange to restore sustainability.

“These are actions of a responsible government, and we are proud that we took these decisions, not reckless ones. Again, we take responsibility, we say sorry to Ghanaians, we had to take a painful decision [DDEP] to implement this,” he said.

The minority leader further criticised the NDC government for taking credit for the NPP government cleaning up Ghana’s grave economic situation without giving the minority credit.

Afenyo Markin added, “You’re taking advantage of this painful decision without giving credit to us.

None,” he criticised.

OSP bail condition very unreasonable – Adom-Otchere’s lawyer

0

Nicholas Lenin Anane Agyei, the legal counsel for Paul Adom-Otchere, has slammed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over their bail conditions for their client.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has detained Paul Adom-Otchere after interviewing him and two others, and formally charged them.

The OSP revealed that Adom Otchere failed to meet the bail condition, as he claimed he did not own any landed property in Ghana.

Meanwhile, Investigative Journalist Manasseh Azure has exposed Paul Adom-Otchere after he tried to distance himself from the GACL contract before his detention by the OSP.

Manasseh, in an X post, wrote, “I have watched your special morning edition of ‘Good Evening Ghana’ in which you named me. Even as my investigation into the contract is yet to be published, I wish to draw your attention to a few issues.

You said I had engaged you on this matter, and we had exchanged questions and answers. You also said you had yet to respond to some of the questions I sent you. This is wholly correct. And I’m still waiting for your response to the questions after the several promises and timelines you gave me”.

He added, “In distancing yourself from the contract, you claimed on your show this morning that you didn’t know the owners of the company that won the shady contracts. Paul, this is false. You have admitted to me, not once but TWICE, that you knew the owners of the company from the very beginning.

I HAVE EVIDENCE OF THIS. I also have evidence that a year before that company (the one which eventually won the contract) came to the board meeting you chaired at the GACL, you had met those behind the company. So, Paul, it’s a lie if you claim you didn’t know the owners of the company that won the contract”.

The investigative journalist added that his remarks are just based on Adom Otchere’s Good Evening Ghana remarks, in which he named him.

He revealed that the story will reveal why the deal is a scandal and why Adom Otchere, the Managing Director of GACL, and the PPA may need to answer some important questions.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that they have detained former Ghana Airports Company Limited Board Chair, Paul Adom-Otchere.

According to the OSP, they have interviewed Paul Adom Otchere and two others, and they were formally charged.

The OSP revealed that Adom Otchere failed to meet the bail condition, as he claimed he did not own any landed property in Ghana.

However, Paul Adom-Otchere, on his show Good Evening Ghana, before his detention by the OSP, revealed he had no idea the contract was signed, and it was an investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure, who informed him that the GACL MD had signed the contract.

Speaking on his show, Adom-Otchere detailed, “I didn’t know they had signed the contract, some 10 days ago, Manasseh Azure called me that he was investigating this matter, so when the OSP came, all the Lawyers were wondering are they were working together.

Manasseh Azure was one of the people you had been talking about. Kissi Agyebeng is one of the people you have been talking about; they seem to be working together, but I don’t know, and it does not matter.

Manasseh Azure called me and said Who is Eva? What is the Evatest contract? And I said what was that, he said Evatest, the people doing quality assurance, I said the people who do the think SML does he said yes. I said I don’t know about it, I don’t know what it gone to”.

Paul Adom Otchere added, “It was Manasseh Azure who told me that the contract has been signed by the Managing Director on the 4th of December, three days to the election”.

I will not preside over a gov’t that abuses or intimidates journalists – Mahama

0

President John Dramani Mahama has said he will not preside over a government that abuses or intimidates journalists in doing their duties.

John Mahama condemned the attack on JoyNews journalist Carlos Calony by some military men during the demolition of a warehouse belonging to McDan at Spintex, Accra.

According to John Mahama, he has instructed that the incident be investigated and the officers involved be sanctioned accordingly.

The President further revealed plans to convene a meeting with the heads of security services and the leadership of GJA for the military troops to see the media as partners in development.

Speaking at the swearing-in of newly appointed deputy ministers on Thursday, July 31, President Mahama stated, “Allow me to condemn in the strongest terms the assault in the recent incident involving the manhandling of some journalists by our security personnel. Such conduct is unacceptable and will not be tolerated”.

“I have instructed that the incident be investigated and the officers involved be sanctioned accordingly. As a card-bearing member of the GJA, I will not preside over a government that abuses or intimidates journalists in the lawful exercise of their duties”, he added.

Mahama revealed, “I will soon convene a meeting with the heads of security services and leadership of GJA to plan a programme to orient our troops to recognise the media not as enemies but partners in development”.

President Mahama’s comment comes on the back of a video going viral of military personnel assaulting an eyewitness while he was speaking to a JoyNews reporter, Carlos Carlony, about McDan’s Warehouse demolition.

The eyewitness was speaking to the journalist when the military man stopped the interview, questioning them about what they were doing at the site.

The military men later assaulted the eyewitness with a belt, with three other military men joining in to assault the man.

JoyNews reporter Carlos Carlony also later recounted that he was assaulted and forcefully detained by armed military men.

Also, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, has demanded that the government immediately arrest and interdict the National Security operatives.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 30, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour stated, “We expect the government, even though we welcome their condemnation, to immediately interdict and arrest the security officers involved and begin investigations.

If, after investigations, they are not guilty, then they can be released. But what is the meaning of just issuing a directive for investigations while we sit back and watch?” he queried.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has made known that they have initiated a probe into the conduct of some of its personnel over the incident involving the JoyNews journalist Carlos Calonyand the eyewitness.

A press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at GAF Headquarters stated, “In line with the directive from the Presidency, the Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that investigations have begun into the inappropriate conduct of some soldiers during an encounter with some journalists”.

In a viral video shared on social media, Adom Otchere was spotted at his residence with his wife and was later met with cheers from his children and loved ones.

According to Rosemary Beryl-Archer Otchere, his wife, she received calls from former president Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia expressing their concern.

Rosemary Beryl-Archer Otchere stated, “If not for this incident, I would not have known how many people had my number. Calls came in constantly. Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia called and expressed concern”.

In addition, Sammy Darko Appiah, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, has revealed that Paul Adom-Otchere is a key suspect in the OSP’s ongoing investigation into the GACL revenue.

Meanwhile, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, the managing director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has ended the scandalous revenue assurance contract with Evatex Logistics.

The information gathered suggests Evatex Logistics Limited, a company affiliated with SML, has been served with a termination letter on 28th July 2025.

According to reports, no payments have also been made to date to Evatex Logistics.

Evatex Logistics Ltd, a firm affiliated with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML), was contracted by GACL to provide revenue assurance services in regard to cargo at Kotoka International Airport.
